Message From The Master Brethren, It is with much sadness that I inform you that Wor Fred Mayfield laid down his working tools on Monday, June 22, 2015 and was buried on Friday, June 26 th.

His widow Clara will remain at Spring Arbor. If you get a chance to stop by and visit with Clara please do so. She will enjoy your visit and enjoy telling you about her life with Wor Fred.

1 Message From The Master Brethren, It is with much sadness that I inform you that Wor Fred Mayfield laid down his working tools on Monday, June 22, 2015 and was buried on Friday, June 26 th. Wor Fred was a 65 year Mason, was past Master of Chickahominy Lodge No. 286 in 1957 and was just a wonderful person and true gentleman. Wor Fred will be sorely missed by our Lodge. His widow Clara will remain at Spring Arbor. If you get a chance to stop by and visit with Clara please do so. She will enjoy your visit and enjoy telling you about her life with Wor Fred. We will drape the Charter and observe a moment of silence for Wor Fred at our July stated communication. I will also alot some time at our July stated communication for those who would like to share any favorite moments they had with Wor Fred. Chickahominy Lodge No. 286 A.F. & A. M. Chartered February 16, 1905 Trestleboard JULY, 2015 I cannot believe my year as Master of Chickahominy Lodge is half over. The time has flown by and I have thoroughly enjoyed being your Master. Thank you for the support you have given me so far. There is more work to do in the quarries of Freemasonry and I look forward to the remaining time I am in the East and to your continued support. If you were not able to attend our June stated communication you missed a treat. It was Hawaiian Shirt Night and Bring a Friend Night. It was fun to see all the bright Hawaiian shirts you wore. The meal was delicious. But no one brought a friend who they thought would make a fine Mason. I was expecting someone I had talked to but he did not attend. We now have three Fellowcrafts and ninety one Master Masons in our lodge. Surely you know some friends who would make good Masons. If so invite them to attend our monthly meeting dinners and our monthly breakfasts so they can get to know us and we them. The month of July includes one big holiday, Independence Day on July 4 th. I hope your plans for that day include enjoyable times with family and friends. If you are traveling for a July 4 th celebration or a vacation please drive safely. P.O. We have a core group of members who regularly travel with us and we really enjoy visiting other Lodges. It s fun to meet other Masons and to see their Lodge and how they do things, plus the meals are usually excellent. We traveled to Arlington Lodge No. 102 on June 26 th and enjoyed a delicious meal and fun time with the brethren there. Our next planned visit is to Army and Navy Lodge No. 306 on July 15 th. 2 Message From The Master cont d Leliveld sends out a reminder several days prior to these visits so there is always an opportunity to carpool. At our July stated communication we will have a program by the Williamsburg Shrine Club. We will also be in summer dress for the months of July, August and September. Officers are requested to wear blue lodge shirts. We still have one open slot on the lodge meeting dinner schedule in December. If you have not signed up to provide a meal for one of our meetings in a while please consider signing up for this meal. Two or more Brothers can sign up for a dinner. The Lodge will reimburse you for your expenses for providing the meal. Wor Joe Rose and Wor Ted Holm have been doing most of the catechism coaching and they have done a wonderful job. Recently RW Jim Miller, Wor Bob Humrich and Bro Otis Childress have stepped up to coach candidates as well and we appreciate their help. We could use some more catechism coaches and we need more Brothers to learn degree parts, particularly Master Mason part II parts. So if you would like to assist coaching catechisms or increase your knowledge of degree parts in the lodge please let me know and we will find someone to get you up to speed if you need it. We are creating a kitchen cleanup crew to wash and dry the cooking pots and pans and put them away after our monthly breakfasts. Wor Steve Anderson and Wor Joe Rose have been arriving in the wee hours of the morning to begin cooking the delicious breakfasts we have become accustomed to and they have been staying after the breakfast to cleanup the kitchen with assistance from some Brothers. It is time we help these two Brothers and relieve them of the cleanup duty so they can leave earlier. If you can help with this duty please let me know. Bro Russ Jeffries and Bro Jim Faucett performed cleanup duties at our June breakfast. Finally, if you see a Brother who has not been to lodge recently invite him to come back to lodge and experience the food, friendship and brotherly love we all enjoy. 4 SPECIAL NOTICES & ANNOUNCEMENTS Second invoices for 2015 were mailed June 5 th. If you have not already done so Brethren please send in your dues payment. Sending follow-up dues notices is additional, unnecessary work for our Secretary so please send in your dues payment. We should not have to and do not want to have to constantly remind lodge Brothers to pay their dues. The Stated Dinner sign-up sheet has one blank space (December). Please consider signing up. Remember, the Lodge will reimburse you for your out of pocket expenses. It s your cooking talent we re looking for! Please contact me or Wor. Steve Anderson if you have questions. We have three Brothers who are Fellowcrafts. So there is much degree work on our horizon. If you would like to participate in any of this degree work please let Wor Bo Bohannon or Bro Scott Florence know. Even if you do not participate with a role in the degree please come to the degree work, so you can learn the work and support these new Masons. All new petitioners must receive a background check before they can be balloted on. Cost for this check is $20.00 in addition to the Petition fee of $50.00 and a Disclosure and Consent form must be completed by the petitioner in addition to the Petition. Our LIW, Wor Ted Holm is continuing a Warden s Certificate class on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 5:00 p. m. This class is for those who are close to moving into the East but any Master Masons can attend. We are grateful to have Wor Ted in our lodge and grateful for his enthusiasm for teaching our members their catechisms and our officers their parts. An order has been placed for lodge shirts for those who wanted them and they should be ready very soon. If you ordered a shirt I will let you know when I have them and will make arrangements to get them to you. New barbeque aprons have been purchased by the lodge and they are at the screen printing company now. I expect them to be available before our breakfast on July 11 th. These aprons are royal blue with a white knife and fork Masonic symbol and lettering. The old white aprons were very dirty, could not be completely cleaned and were losing their lettering. So look for these new aprons on our kitchen and dining crews when we receive them. Page 4 of 6
