Please understand that this event, like all other social events, is funded by the members, for the members, and is organized by the Board on the members' behalf. USTA League play is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet new players and visit other clubs. This is a good time to start thinking about forming a USTA team for the Spring 2016 season. The registration runs from January 2nd through February 1st. Play begins mid-march and ends mid-may. 3 MIKE S COURT REPORT Monday Clinic: No Clinics in November due to Mike's recovery. This includes first-rate instruction and drills, for both new and experienced players. Bring a friend out to play and brush up on your tennis strokes and strategies! Win more tennis games! Special Clinics and Drills can be arranged for teams and groups (minimum of 4). Private Lessons: $40.00 per hour. Call to schedule. Racquet Stringing: Yes. USTA Leagues: Best of luck to our USTA Women's 6.5 Combo Leagues as they compete in the State Tournament in Wilmington this month. I want all our ladies to have a good time and support their partners. And the most important thing to keep in mind during matches is to respect your opponents. TENNIS TIP ~ You are only as good as your second serve ~ If you hit a hard first serve and then a soft second serve, try bridging the gap by slowing down your first serve (getting more in) and placing a deeper second serve.

4 TURKEY DOUBLES Club Championship We will play best of 3 sets, with a 10 point tiebreaker for the 3rd set! Everyone entering will be guaranteed 2 matches by having a winner and a consolation bracket. The winners move forward as they win in the winners bracket, while the first round losers move to the consolation bracket and play for a 3rd place finish. November 7 November 14 November 21 Men's Doubles Mixed Doubles Women's Doubles The deadline for entries is November 3, There will be an entry fee of $ Balls and commemorative tourney T-shirts will be provided by the club. We want to see your name on the Turkey Doubles trophy!!!! A-Level will be 3.5 and above ratings. B-Level will be 3.0 and below. For those winners last year, you cannot play with the same partner this year! Let's have some fun with the Turkey Doubles!! We want to see some new names on the clubhouse plaque!

5 Travel Groups: We have the opportunity to play with area clubs every other month or so, including lunch out. Dates are currently pending. Contact Bob Murphy if you are interested in participating. Thursday Evening, 5:30-7:30: Open play organized by Bob Murphy. All are welcome. Contact Bob if you want to be added to his list. Sunday Afternoon Tennis Drop-In, 2:30-4:30. No sign up is necessary. This will be a flexible group depending on who shows up. It could be mixed, could be all men or all women, or even a 4 game round robin if an odd number of players. Please note, there is no designated leader for this group. Therefore, members are requested to put down all umbrellas and secure the clubhouse before leaving. If there are any questions or problems, call a Board member. Bob Murphy has agreed to be a contact person for a court report, if necessary. 6 On October 5, 2015 members of HTRC attended Jerry Creech s surprise 80 th birthday celebration, hosted by Nedgelena Jennings and Reita Ray at the HTRC clubhouse. Jerry was one of the club s original charter members and has continuously been a member of our club for the past 39 years. Jerry was also one of the first players to play on the courts. There is only one "Jerry." Everyone has their favorite story!!! Jerry's passion and love for the game is unsurpassed.

9 Bill Outland, Bob Shields, Bill Harris, Reita Rea, Jerry Creech, Nedgelena Jennings - Submitted by Nedge This is a picture from the 70th birthday party that Reita and I gave Jerry. We said then that we would be back for the 80th. Jerry and Rita played singles before we started playing doubles in the mid 80's with Bill Harris, Bob Shields and others. We played faithfully for years!!! May 1, First to play at club with Bill Outland. Matches that followed in next several weeks were with Bob Shields, John Doughty, Wayne Boyd, John and Karen Segal, and Bill Hollows. Jerry played with Reita on his birthday in 1979 and was the first to play with Ron Davis on his birthday I was not in their league...i started playing with the group in 1990.
