2 Letter from the Manager Dear Mardi Gras Parade Entrant, 2016 Mardi Gras Parade Entry Kit The Mardi Gras Parade organisers have been working hard to deliver an exciting parade for the 2016 Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo. Once again Mount Isa will come alive with fabulous floats, music and lights and the thousands of visitors that flock the area to see the biggest procession in the North West. There are 4 categories offering $1,000 each in prizes and the Grand Champion Float vying for $2,500. This certainly is the time to enter your float and promote to the crowds who you are proud to be associated with. This year, the Mardi Gras Parade route will again travel through the sealed car park at Buchanan Park creating a dedicated precinct full of people, entertainment, activities, food stalls and a separate licensed area. This will be a night to remember, a place to catch up with friends and share wonderful memories with your family. The theme Love Our Land encourages you to light up your float and embrace rodeo fever. As an entrant, you are welcome to explore and interpret the theme creatively or feel free to go beyond the theme. The Mardi Gras Parade Entrant Guide has been produced to assist you in planning your entry and provide important information on entry criteria, safety and instructions for the day of Mardi Gras Parade. 3 Your Mardi Gras Parade Checklist Obtain a copy of your Certificate of Registration for all vehicles Submit with your Nomination Form floats that have not provided this will NOT be permitted in the parade. Obtain a copy of your Public Liability Certificate of Currency Submit with your Nomination Form floats that have not provided this will NOT be permitted in the parade. Submit your Mardi Gras Parade Nomination Form Don t forget your Certificate of Registration and Public Liability Certificate of Currency. Please do not submit your form without them. Assign two marshals to walk along side floats All motorised and children orientated floats must nominate two marshals per float to walk alongside the vehicle wearing high visible vests. Get to the parade on time! Enter the assembly area at 5pm on Simpson Street just past Carbine Avenue up to Zena Street. Order of floats will be determined by your arrival time. 4 Parade Regulations With many entrants, vehicles, volunteers and thousands of spectators lining the streets safety is of absolute importance on the Mardi Gras Route. These guidelines are for everyone s safety and to ensure we meet the requirements of the law and public authorities. For these reasons, entrants must comply with the following: Size Restrictions Maximum height for a float is 4.3 metres to avoid electricity and communications cables at their lowest point across George and Simpson Streets. It is advisable to drive along the route prior to the Mardi Gras to ensure there are no other obstructions trees, signs, etc - that may damage your float or threaten the safety of entrants and spectators. Maximum width is imposed by the width of a lane of traffic. Compliance with the Law All entrants in the parade are required to comply with the law, including traffic laws and the directions of law enforcement officers. The Mardi Gras parade is not exempt and authorities are within their right to act on any breaches. Entrants must comply with the following: Vehicles must be in a road worthy condition Vehicles must be registered and driven by a licensed driver Must not be under the influence of drugs and alcohol No alcohol is to be consumed by drivers or participants Headlights must be on and visible Number plates must be visible throughout the parade No objects are to be thrown from vehicles or into the crowd Vehicle Requirements All motorised and children orientated float entries must nominate two marshals per float to walk alongside the float wearing high visible vests. No passengers are allowed to ride on the back of the fl oats until the parade commences along the designated mardi gras route. No objects are to be thrown from vehicles. However, people walking may hand items to the public. Throwing of items into the crowd is NOT Permitted. Take all reasonable steps to ensure safety of those participating on your float. Directions from officials and public authorities Mardi Gras Officials and public authorities will be on site to direct you on arrival and during the parade. They may ask you to speed up, slow down or stop - please observe their direction at all times.

5 Animals Due to the risk of stress or injury, animals are not permitted in the Mardi Gras parade unless approved by Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc. Promotional Materials The handing out of marketing and promotional material is not permitted during the Mardi Gras parade. Public Liability All floats entered must produce a copy of their Public Liability Certificate of Currency with your completed nomination form and Certificate of Registration for all vehicles to be used in the parade. Final preparations & arrival Essential Info for the Day 1. Ensure your float meets the requirements explained in this Mardi Gras Entrant Guide 2. Allow sufficient travel time to ensure you arrive on time and to avoid congestions from other arriving entrants 3. Floats to start assembling at 5.00pm in Simpson Street 4. Enter the assembly area via Simpson Street from Carbine Avenue Setting up 5. From 5.00pm to 6.30pm, the parade set-up is in full swing in the assembly area. As there will be officials, participants and spectators walking around, we ask that you please take care when moving vehicles 6. Please follow directions of the Mardi Gras Officials 7. Floats will be assembled in the order of arrival 8. Drivers must remain with the vehicle at all times 9. All participants must be on the floats by 6.30pm SHARP During the parade 10. Parade commences at 7.00pm SHARP 11. Observe what is happening in front of you and regulate your speed to maintain a steady pace 12. Observe the directions of Mardi Gras Officials and public authorities at all times After the parade 13. At the Conclusion of the parade, continue on Sutton Street and George Street 14. Follow the directions of Mardi Gras Officials 15. Parents must be on hand to collect children 16. Vehicles are not to remain in this area. Please move your vehicles as soon as possible 17. Roads will re-open as soon as floats have disbanded and area cleared
