2 Tumwater 4th of July Celebration By Pete Kmet This year marks the 30th Annual Tumwater Independence Day Parade and the 17th Annual Artesian Festival and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show. As our community continues to grow, we are pleased to offer outstanding community events such as these. Citywide events bring us together to share the enjoyment of our City and improve our quality of life. As per our tradition, this 4th of July will be a day of great celebration in Tumwater. We ve added a new event to kick off the day, the Fairways & Fireworks Fore on the Fourth Fun Run at 9:00am. The Tumwater Valley Golf Course will turn its cart paths into a 4-mile run/walk to benefit golf programs for low-income youth. After the run, head on over to the Tumwater Independence Day Parade. The Pre-Parade car show kicks off at 10:45am and the Parade itself starts at 11am. This year s theme is Like Totally 80s so we expect parade entrants to have a lot of fun dressing up in all their 80s gear. Our parade is always a crowdpleasing event with a wide variety of entries ranging from horses and dance teams to classic cars and trucks and even a rocket launcher courtesy of our community partners at JBLM. The parade starts at the corner of Capitol Blvd. and Lee Street and ends just past City Hall on Israel Road. Come out early to get your optimum parade viewing seat! The Tumwater Artesian Festival and the Thunder Valley Fireworks Show are once again being sponsored by the Tumwater Downtown Association (TDA). Many of our local businesses realize the importance of this event and are committed to ensuring that it continues to be a Tumwater tradition. Through their fundraising efforts, the TDA is able to provide the City with the financial resources to hold this festival. Their hard work and dedication to this event proves the great sense of community pride that we all share and which makes our City great. The business members of the TDA deserve our gratitude and have our continued support for many more fireworks shows to come. At 6:00pm, we ll kick off the Tumwater Artesian Festival at Tumwater Valley. Thanks to staff, the TDA, Hanson Motors, Lacey/Capital/ Chehalis Collision Centers, O Bee Credit Union, and other area businesses, this will be our biggest and best event yet. Our local business community continues to provide outstanding support for this event. Without their sponsorship, this familyoriented festival would not be possible. Entry into the event is free and the entrance is through the north gate of the golf course driving range. Event parking is located off of E Street, in the parking lot of the former Olympia Brewery. The cost for parking is $10 per vehicle. The money collected will be used by the Tumwater Downtown Association for our 2018 fireworks display and to support local youth organizations. There will be food vendors, music, and activities for the whole family. For the kids, Jeff Evans will perform magic, L-Bow the Clown will wow us with fire juggling, and Hands On Children s Museum will paint faces. There will be multiple activity areas for kids, including slides, obstacle courses, and bouncers; and activities for teens in the Teen Zone. Once again this year, the popular and exciting Kapowsin 4th of July Skydivers will be landing at the Artesian Festival at 8:45pm. As darkness approaches, the lights will dim and the old brewery whistle will blow, once again, in the Tumwater Valley, signaling the start of the Thunder Valley Fireworks show. Always the best around, this year s fireworks are guaranteed to be the biggest and best yet! We look forward to spending the day with you on the 4th of July and hope you enjoy all that Tumwater has to offer! THE WAVE 6 X 4.5

6 Tumwater will once again be hosting the largest fi reworks show in the county on Tuesday, July 4th. The 17th Annual Tumwater Artesian Festival and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show is set to take place at the City s golf course as a part of the Independence Day Celebration in Tumwater. The event draws thousands of people to Tumwater every year and is made possible through the cooperative efforts of the local business community and the City of Tumwater. John Morton and Murray Smith, cochairpersons of the event for the Tumwater Downtown Association (TDA), look forward to each year s event as the culmination of months of work. Morton states that, this is a great partnership between the businesses in our community and the Parks and Recreation Department in Tumwater. It takes countless hours of volunteer planning and effort, but it s all worth it when the 4th fi nally arrives. This is the 16th year that TDA has been the title sponsor of the event and each year the festival grows larger. All of the food, games, and activities are great, but it s defi nitely the fi reworks show that really keeps people coming back. We re proud to have the biggest and best show that our county residents are going to see all year says Smith. This unique event costs tens of thousands of dollars to bring to the community. The festival and fi rework show is made possible by the generous support and fi nancial assistance from the City of Tumwater, The Tumwater Downtown Association, Alpha Pyrotechnics, and a host of other community partners. The festival is a family-oriented event with numerous activities for families and children. Spend the day in Tumwater starting with the 30th Annual 4th of July Parade and then head down to Tumwater Valley for the Artesian Family Festival and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show! Entry into the Artesian Festival is free. Parking is available at the lower parking lot of the former brewery. The $10 per car parking fee generates revenue for next year s show and local youth programs. ARTESIAN FESTIVAL & THUNDER VALLEY FIREWORKS SHOW 2017 SPONSOR RECOGNITION The City of Tumwater Parks & Recreation Department would like to recognize the generous sponsors of the 17th Annual Artesian Family Festival and Thunder Valley Fireworks Show.
