2 SPECIAL NOTICES FOR THE 110 th VERMONT STATE TRAPSHOOT Pre-registration will be available for all events at or by mail. See the instructions and form on pages 6 and 7. A $2.00 per position per event non-refundable service fee is required and is not applicable towards entries. In the Preliminary Handicap (Event #2) we will offer the Collin & Moe Bigras Memorial Purse. This will be a $750 guaranteed purse with a $10.00 entry. There will be three winners. The top three places (ties shoot off) will be paid 50%, 30%, and 20% of this purse. You must pay the $10.00 entry to be in. We are also offering the Montpelier Gun Club Lewis this year. This Lewis purse will be a $10.00 entry with $5.00 going to the Club for shot curtain repairs and the other $5.00 going into a Lewis purse divided 1 money each 10 entries, high gun, max. 3 classes. Attendance pins will be given to all shooters while supply lasts. Our caterer will serve breakfast and lunch into the afternoon hours each day. Breakfast will be served between 8:00 a.m. and 10 a.m. 2

3 THE 110 th VERMONT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TRAPSHOOT The 110 th Vermont State Shoot will be held on June 15 th, 16 th, and 17 th at the Montpelier Gun Club in Berlin, VT. We will use 6 program fields (plus 1 practice field) equipped with Pat-Trap automatic traps and Canterbury Voice Release units. All orange White Flyer targets will be thrown for each event. The traditional 5-targets-perpost shooting method will be used but all shooters in the 16-yard events must take 50 shells to the line and only stop after 25 rounds to verify scores. Pre-registration will be available at and by mail. The preregistration instructions and form are on pages 6 & 7. Classification, Squadding & Entry: Classification, squadding for those not pre-registered, and entry for all events will begin on Thursday, June 14 th, at 6:00 p.m. Entries accepted in U. S. funds only. Shooters who have pre-registered by mail can pick up their squad assignments at this time. Classification will be based on the last 700 targets or overall average, whichever is higher, plus known ability. The following guidelines apply. SINGLES DOUBLES AA 97% and over AA 92% and over A 94% and under 97% A 88% and under 92% B 91% and under 94% B 84% and under 88% C 88% and under 91% C 77% and under 84% D Under 88% D Under 77% YARDAGE GROUPS Penalty Classification: Shooters not having at least yard targets, 300 doubles targets, and 500 handicap targets for the 2017 and 2018 target years combined will shoot in Class B or higher and 2 yards over their current yardage (minimum 22 yards, maximum 25 yards). For Ladies, Juniors, Sub-Juniors, and Veterans the minimum penalty yardage will be 21 yards. There will be no penalty yardage for Senior Veterans. For handicap events, shooters may avoid penalty classification and shoot targets only but they will not be eligible for trophies or added monies and cannot play any purses or options. REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE This is to certify that the Montpelier Gun Club, Inc. has been authorized to hold a registered shoot at its club grounds in Berlin, VT on June 15, 16, and 17, ATA rules will govern this shoot and all scores will be included in the official records. 4 Special Categories: It is the responsibility of Ladies (I & II), Juniors Gold, Juniors, Sub-Juniors, Sub-Veterans, Veterans, and Senior Veterans to make sure that your correct category is indicated on your classification receipt and on the scoreboard sheets if you choose to declare. Sub-Juniors, Juniors, Juniors Gold: The target entry fee for all sub-juniors, juniors, and juniors gold in all events will be $20.00 per hundred targets provided that no options or purses are chosen. Membership Dues: Shooters must have a current ATA membership card or dues receipt, otherwise the annual membership fee of $20.00 ($12.00 for Juniors Gold, Juniors, and Sub-Juniors) will be charged. Scores, Monies & Pay-offs: Please verify your scores on the score sheet before changing positions or leaving the field and on the scoreboard after you have completed an event. Scores cannot be changed after leaving a shooting post and shooting your first target at the next post. Scores are final for purses and options one hour after each event. Pay-offs for Events 1 through 4 will be available the following day. Pay-offs for Events 5 & 6 will be mailed. Once the money options are figured, there will be no changes unless the cashier has made an error in computing the pay-offs. The Vermont sales tax is included in the cost of targets for all events. Trophies & Shoot-offs: Ties in Event 1 and Event 3 will be carried over by sub-event to Event 4 and Event 5, respectively. Ties in any other events will be shot off at the end of each day. Shooters with tie scores who are not present for a shoot-off will forfeit. Shooters are eligible for only one trophy per event. Please pick up your trophies before leaving the club grounds. Starting Traps: Trap bank assignment will be picked at random before each event. Charts will be posted showing where your squad will shoot. To improve the overall flow, management reserves the right to change trap assignment when gaps in squadding or mechanical breakdowns occur. Due to scratched squads, there may be jumps in squad sequence. Please watch the starting trap board to determine where and when your squad will shoot. Target Shooting Procedure: We will use the traditional 5-targets-per-post procedure for singles and handicap but all shooters must take 50 shells to the line for all 16-yard events and only stop after 25 rounds to verify scores. Lights: If weather or attendance conditions warrant, floodlights for 3 fields will be turned on at approx. 8:00 p.m. 4

5 Practice Trap: If it is not being used for program events, the practice trap will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. each day. The cost for practice is $5.00 per round of 25. Green Mountain Cup (Team Trophy): The VTA sponsors the Green Mountain Cup Team Trophy. Any state or province may enter one team. Team members must be identified before shooting. The total score for all five shooters from the championship events determines the winning team. The winning team takes possession of the Green Mountain Cup for one year, to be returned in VTA Annual Meeting: The annual meeting of the Vermont Trapshooting Association will be held on Sunday, June 17 th at 8:30 a.m. in the clubhouse. The purpose of the meeting is to elect a delegate, alternate delegate(s), officers, and conduct any other business of the Association. The ATA refund to the VTA for dues and daily fees paid during the 2017 target year was $ Golf Carts: Except for management personnel, the use of golf carts or other similar vehicles will only be permitted on the roadway. Please avoid use on or near the trap fields. Camping: The camping area has capacity for approx. 25 units, complete with water and electrical hook-ups, on a first-come/first-serve basis. The cost is $45.00 (flat rate) regardless of hook-up usage or number of nights stayed. Primitive tent sites are $15.00 (flat rate) regardless of number of nights stayed. Vendors: Vendors staying overnight in RV s or campers will be charged a flat rate of $45.00 regardless of hook-up usage or number of nights stayed. Directions: The Montpelier Gun Club is located in Berlin, VT at 240 Goodnow Road which is off the East Montpelier Road (Route 2), approx. one-half mile east of the intersection of U.S. Routes 2 and 302. After crossing the second bridge over the Winooski River take a right onto Marvin Road. Take the next right onto Goodnow Road and proceed to Club on right. 6 2018 VERMONT STATE SHOOT PRE-SQUADDING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Pre-registration will be available at It is preferred that you use this method for pre-squadding. You will need all ATA numbers when pre-registering. If you do not have Internet access you may pre-register by mail by completing the form on the next page. Print your name, address, telephone number, and the names and ATA numbers of all shooters you are requesting positions for in the appropriate areas on the form. The cost for presquadding is $2.00 per position per event ($10.00 for a full squad). This service charge is non-refundable and not applicable towards entry fees. It must be included with your pre-squadding request form and received by mail within 5 days at the address below in order to secure your reservation(s). 2. On the manual form, determine the approximate time during each event that you would like to shoot and write an E (early), M (middle), or L (late) in the box next to each event. We will try to select your squad based on your preference, however this may not be possible due to higher demand for certain shooting times. The starting traps will be determined randomly and not in advance. 3. You may pre-squad for individual positions or a full squad. If you want a full squad, circle all 5 positions on the form. The maximum is one squad per event. 4. Multiply the number of positions you have chosen for each event by $2.00 and enter that total in the pre-squad fee box. At the bottom of this column total all of the pre-squad fees and include a check in this amount, made payable to the Montpelier Gun Club, with your pre-squad form. 5. Squad assignments for all pre-squadded entries can be obtained at the squadding window starting Thursday, June 14 th at 6:00 p.m. or any day thereafter. They will not be mailed. Assignments not claimed at least 30 minutes before your start time will be released and you will need to re-squad. 6. All requests for pre-squadding will be processed after May 14 th. Any requests for pre-squadding postmarked before May 14 th will be treated as if they were postmarked on May 14 th. No pre-squadding requests will be accepted after a postmark date of June 5 th. The deadline for presquad.com is June 8 th. 7. Priority on postmark date will be given to full squads first, partial squads second, and individual position requests last. Shooters requesting partial squads may be assigned different positions if the first choice is unavailable. 8. Telephone requests will not be accepted. 10 * PROGRAM EVENT NOTICES * MONTPELIER GUN CLUB LEWIS As many of you are aware, the Montpelier Gun Club has incurred a substantial amount of debt in building and maintaining the shot curtain, as well as cleaning up from flood damage during the past few years. New this year, we are offering the Montpelier Gun Club Lewis in all events as a way to raise additional funds for the Club. The entry is $10.00 with $5.00 of it for the Club and $5.00 for a special Lewis to be paid one money every 10 entries, 50/30/20 high gun, maximum of 3 classes. We hope that you will participate. Thank you for your consideration. SPECIAL SHOOTER S PURSE (Event #6 - Handicap Championship) To be held Sunday, June 17th between the Doubles & Handicap Events at the clubhouse. Shooters will be sold in pairs. Entry: $10.00 First Bid: $15.00 Raises: $ % Buyer, 35% Shooter Divided 40/30/20/10 H.G. Entry for the Special Shooter s Purse must be cashiered by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Pay-off for this event will be made by mailed check, not on Sunday evening as in past years. HANDICAP MIDDLE 50 JACKPOT Entry - $10.00 We will offer a middle 50 jackpot for the handicap events at all of our registered shoots this year. To win the jackpot you will need a 50-straight in the middle 50. If there are no 50-straights then 25% of the entry that day will go to the high score in the middle 50 of the jackpot entrants that day. The jackpot carries to the next regular shoot until there is a 50-straight. If a 50-straight has not been shot by the last shoot, the high middle 50 of those entered that day will win the jackpot. All ties divide. Preliminary Day Note Ties in Event 1 and Event 3 will be carried over by sub-event to Event 4 and Event 5, respectively. Ties in Event 2 will be shot off at the end of the day. Class winners in Event 1 and Event 3 do not move up for Event 4 and Event 5. 10

This donation provides support to the museum and to the many worthy projects undertaken by the Hall of Fame. All donors will qualify for the Hall of Fame Award. Your entry shows this contribution and is your receipt. The Hall of Fame will retain 50% of the donation while the remainder will constitute the portion to be awarded. Monies will be paid out in three Lewis classes, 50/30/20 high gun each class. The high score in this event will receive a Shamrock Leathers specially crafted oak and leather wall clock suitably engraved. Any ties will be resolved by shoot management s discretion. 14

He was born in Newport, VT and spent his early years in New Hampshire, moving to Vermont with his family at the age of nine. He attended Barre schools and, after graduation, joined the Air Force where he served in the Philippines during the Korean conflict. After his military service, Moe returned to Vermont and married his beloved wife Kitty in They were married 58 years until her death in Moe was a hard worker his entire life. He was deeply dedicated to his work, his family, and the Montpelier Gun Club. Moe began his career as a stonecutter and started his own successful sandblast business which he operated with his son, Steve, until his retirement in Moe loved the woods and was an avid outdoorsman. He also loved trapshooting and the Montpelier Gun Club. He passed along his passion to his son and grandsons, Trevor, Tylor, and Collin. Moe is survived by his four children, Cindy, Steve, Lori, and Diane, as well as his sister, Lucille, and many grandchildren, along with one great-grandson, nieces and nephews. Moe won the State Handicap Championship in 1995 and was always a force to be reckoned with in any handicap event. He joined the ATA in 1965 and registered 33,700 singles, 29,050 handicap, and 17,100 doubles targets in his career. Moe was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a fixture at the gun club and was instrumental in revitalizing the club grounds in the late 1960 s so that the Vermont State Shoot could be held in Montpelier in He always had a positive can-do attitude and almost nothing was impossible. A humble man with a gentle soul, Moe is dearly missed by everyone. 40

41 In Memory Collin Bigras ( ) Collin Bigras passed away on June 27, 2017 at his home in Barre. He was born in Berlin, VT on November 22, Collin grew up in East Montpelier, attended East Montpelier Elementary School, and graduated from U-32 High School in Collin was Vice President of B&B Monumental Engravers, the family business in Barre, and he also was an experienced carpenter and heavy equipment operator working on many projects with his father and brothers. Collin was a very accomplished trapshooter. He was mentored by longtime family friend, Mike Blaisdell, of Keene, NH, who taught him how to shoot. Collin loved trapshooting and the Montpelier Gun Club. He won many championships in his short career. Within Vermont, he won the Sub-Jr. Championship in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, he won the Junior Championship in 2008, 2009, and 2010, he won the Singles Championship in 2011 and 2012, and the All-Around Championship in His 2012 State Singles title with 200- straight was the first time that this score had been registered by a VT resident at the State Shoot. Another major title for Collin was when he won the Sub-Jr. Champion of Champions event at the Grand American in 2006 by shooting his first 100-straight in singles and winning the shoot-off with another 100-straight! In addition to trapshooting, Collin loved golfing, hunting, and fishing. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone. He loved his work and treated everyone like family. Survivors include his mother, Christina Metakos-Bigras, his father, Steve and his wife, Chantal, his brothers, Trevor and Tylor, his sister, Jessica, his aunts, Cindy, Lori, and Diane, his maternal grandmother, Mary Metakos, as well as many cousins. Collin is sorely and lovingly missed by everyone who knew him. 41

42 In Memory Milan Cobb Lawson ( ) Milan Lawson passed away on July 12, 2017 at his home in Montpelier after a brief illness. He was born in Waterbury Center, VT on October 16, Milan graduated from Montpelier High School in 1951 and Northeastern University in His working career spanned 45 years with the Vermont Transportation Agency. Milan s work included a variety of jobs within the Agency, moving from soils engineer through various technology titles to District 6 Engineer. He attended many Highway Conferences throughout the United States. Milan was a Freemason and past Master of Aurora Lodge No. 22, F@AM. He is a noble and Life Member of the Shrine and served as Recorder for the Mount Sinai Shriners #3. Milan was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed every moment he could spend at camp. He had many adventures with his son, Dan, his nephew, Todd, and a variety of others. He absolutely loved trapshooting and the Montpelier Gun Club and was a fixture here for almost 50 years. Along with his devoted wife, Corinne, he cashiered the State Shoot for many years during the 1970 s and 1980 s. In his later years, he enjoyed serving as squad hustler for registered shoots and monitoring practice sessions throughout the season. Milan was instrumental, along with others, in revitalizing the club grounds so that the State Shoot could be held in Montpelier in Milan won the State Singles in 1981, the State Doubles in 1970, 1971, and 1973, the State All-Around in 1971 and 1973, and the State Veteran Singles in 2000 and He joined the ATA in 1969 and registered 20,000 singles, 13,050 handicap, and 9,550 doubles targets in his career. Milan is survived by his wife, Corinne, his son, Dan, and two brothers, Ronald and Sidney. He is missed by all who knew him. 42
