1 Celebrates Barge Washers Topside Repairers Turn Services 20 GUNAL TALK SUMMER 2010 years Towboaters Fleeters This is what we do for a living Toward Many More Years A Message from Frank Morton Over the past 20 years, Turn Services has generated a long list of great accomplishments. Turn has grown from operating one towboat at a single location to 12 towboats and four crewboats at multiple locations along the Lower Mississippi River. We are proud to offer our customers increased service capabilities including towing, fleeting, cleaning, repair and inspection. More important than our growth has been the development of a culture that values safety, sound working practices, solid procedures, quality equipment and a high level of customer service. That which is past is but a foundation for the Frank Morton at M/V Affirmed and M/V Citation christening event. future. Turn continues to invest in the future through planning for growth, training our people and upgrading our equipment. There is no such thing as standing still; if you are standing still then you are stepping back. Turn Services will celebrate this moment of reaching 20 years of success, but only for a moment. Our real task is to prepare ourselves for the future and position ourselves for the next 20 years. The future is where we and our customers will be spending the rest of our lives. Therefore, we will go forward with courage, hope and confidence. Don t fear the future, embrace it and conquer it to make a better tomorrow for us all. M/V SIR BARTON working Myrtle Grove Eastbank Fleet (mile 57 AHP).
2 Safety & Compliance A Message from Bob Mueller we expect, and what we do. As we approach the summer season, Captains and Fleet Managers need to be sure all deckhands and barge crews are fully hydrated at all times as we want to avoid heat related injuries. This hurricane season is expected to start slow and pick up steam as El Niño fades away. Therefore, everyone needs to review their boat and facility hurricane plans to ensure we are ready. Capt. Dale Howell receives bridging inspection sticker for M/V GALLANT FOX. Congratulations are in order for the Captains and crews of every Turn Services towboat on passing the Coast Guard Towboat Bridging Inspection audits with a record of no discrepancies on 10 boats and just a couple of minor discrepancies on the other two (items taken care of immediately). The Coast Guard inspectors were very impressed! It is also noteworthy that we completed 11 inspections in a little more than two weeks, the results of which are evidence that our high standards are maintained fleet-wide everyday. Congratulations to our exceptional engineering staff as well for such an impressive record, as they work very hard to keep all vessels fully found and in a ready state. of Turn Services secure fleets were inspected by the Coast Guard and both passed with flying colors. Security, provided by our lead fleet boats, as well as our training and procedures for handling tank barges and certain dangerous cargos (CDCs), were all rated excellent. As we expand into the tank barge and CDC fleeting business, all Captains and Facility Managers are working hard to maintain our high Turn Services standards. Safety is always our number one priority and going beyond the requirements to ensure these cargos are handled properly is what We also urge everyone to review their own family s hurricane plans and please help younger crew members with their personal hurricane plans. Ensuring our families are prepared and have a good plan, helps everybody on watch concentrate better should we need to prepare for a major storm. Taking care of fellow team members ahead of time will make us all more effective when we are needed the most. Finally, as always, please check the lights on every workvests to make sure they all work, both fore and aft, as we all know how critical workvest are on the river! Take care and be safe, Bob Mueller. Everyone knows that Turn Services boats are maintained to a much higher standard than the Coast Guard inspection regime requires. However, it was still nice to score so well on these inspections, especially doing so in such a short period of time. It is particularly nice for me, being a retired Coast Guard Officer, as you can be sure my old buddies would really give me a hard time if they were to find a problem! Also, during this same period, both Petty Officer Millhouse inspected and passed six Turn Services towboats.

Turn Services was, at that time, still in its infancy. At Burnside, the company began to build relationships that would serve it well for many years to come. Perhaps the most important relationship for the future of Turn Services was built with a new company whose office was just down the way from Turn s office at the terminal. This company, Associated Terminals, was operated by an individual named David Fennelly. Frank Morton and David Fennelly soon became friends and when Turn Services was considering the installation of ship berths at Myrtle Grove Eastbank fleet, Frank turned to David and Associated Terminals. Both companies soon realized that for this partnership to work, the companies needed to have common owners Associated Terminals owners stepped to the plate and acquired

This partnership has proven very successful! At the time of the purchase in 2004, Turn Services owned one towboat and one fleet. Today the company owns 12 towboats; operates three full-service fleets; provides shifting, cleaning and repair services at another fleet; and owns four crewboats all operating with COI s. Teamwork between Turn and Associated has enabled the two companies to better serve their common customers. This commitment to excellent service is evident both in the actions of Turn employees, as well as the strong growth achieved since this partnership was formed. As Turn Services looks to the next 20 years and beyond, the company will remain an industry leader, continue its growth, and strive to meet its customers every need. As we look back on the past 20 years, one thing stands out plainly Turn Services success relies on the support of the communities in which it operates as much as the efforts of the Turn Services team itself. Presently we have operations in the communities of Point Comfort, New Roads, Welcome, Harahan, Waggaman, Chalmette, Meraux, Algiers, Phoenix and Davant. Although it would be impossible to give back as much as we have received, the company has grown to a point where we can increase our efforts. Toward that goal, Turn is establishing a charity named One Good Turn. Understanding that big things begin with small steps, we intend to start by focusing on the needs of newborn and infant children within our own communities. Turn envisions that, through employee and company contributions, families in need of a new carrier, car seat, stroller, crib, etc. will look to us for assistance. In the coming weeks, look forward to more news on how we can give back to our communities and how you can help. Truly, One Good Turn does deserve another.
6 Turn Services, LLC 2200 Royal Street New Orleans, LA Profiles of Our Strength... Trenille Albert Bentley Albert is Facility Manager at Myrtle Grove Eastbank Fleet and is the longest continuous team member of Turn Services, besides our founder Frank Morton. Albert joined Turn Services in June of 1995 as a barge washer working on a crew led by Randy Evans. Albert was working with Randy when the company set the weekend (three days) barge washing record of 72 barges. Their crew washed 24 of the barges, the other 48 barges were spread among three other crews. After two years, Albert became hoseman and managed his own crew. His wash crew consisted of Jaron Narcisse and Jeffery Turner, both men still work for Turn Services as hosemen. In 2002, Albert was promoted to Facility Manager of Myrtle Grove Eastbank Fleet, a position he continues to hold. Albert s tenure at Myrtle Grove Eastbank has seen fleet expansions and upgrades. He saw the destruction of the fleet from Hurricane Katrina and was instrumental in the reconstruction of that fleet after the storm. Albert is one of Turn Services longest tenured team members, and the company considers itself fortunate to have an employee of his caliber. Sean Gardner Sean is Turn Services Port Captain and has been working for Turn Services since May of 2003, just four months after the company established boat operations. In fact, Sean is the longest tenured team member in vessel operations. He began working on the M/V SIR BARTON (named the M/V VALLEY SUNRISE at the time), a boat he worked on for more than five years, before moving to the M/V WHIRLAWAY in Sean joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1989 when he graduated from high school. He left the Corps in 1995 as an E4 Corporal and became a deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff s Department. In 1999, he left the position of Watch Commander Sergeant at JPSD to pursue a career on the river with Domino Towing. At Domino, Sean worked his way from the deck to the wheelhouse. In 2003, Sean joined Turn Services where he worked as a steersman for two months before he was promoted to his own watch in July. As a Captain, Sean rode out Hurricane Katrina in 2005 at Chalmette Slip after securing Meraux Fleet. He played an integral part in reestablishing operations after the storm, and was involved in the rebuilding of Myrtle Grove Eastbank Fleet. In 2009, Sean moved shoreside when he accepted the Port Captain position. Turn Services is proud to have Sean as an integral part of its operation.
