U9/U10 Academy CABOSA/SU s Academy program for U9 and U10 s is for players who want more than the traditional recreational experience, and who may be considering participation in Competitive soccer when they reach U11. The program is ideal for those players with a strong desire to increase their technical skills, their knowledge of the game, and who may consider a more serious commitment to the game of soccer. The training staff features USSF, NSCAA and UEFA licensed coaches who have many years of experience playing, training, coaching and working with children of all ages. We also have staff coaches that have head coaching experience at the top professional leagues in Europe, coaches that were head college coaches, and many of our staff are helping with Olympic Development Program state teams.
Team Formation U9 players may attend Academy team evaluations. Only players that are true U9 s with the calendar birth year 2008 will be accepted. U8 Players that would like to play up must join the Academy full time and will need approval from the Director of Coaching. Players will not be allowed to train with the Academy and play with their recreational teams. U10 players may attend Academy team evaluations. Only players that are true U10 s with the calendar birth year 2007 will be accepted Academy players wishing to play up will need approval from the Director of Coaching. Players must join the Academy full time. Players will not be allowed to train with the Academy and play with their recreational teams. Evaluations will consist of a warm up, roughly 2-3 technical skill activities (dribbling, passing, shooting, etc.), small-sided games (3v3, 4v4), and will end with full games (if numbers allow). The evaluation session will be administered by licensed staff coaches. The purpose of the evaluation session is not to gauge the ability of the player, but to allow them to experience typical Academy training sessions before committing to the program. Coaches will group players for games and training. These groupings will change several times over the course of the season. Separate girl s and boy s teams will be formed for each age group. Match play will be 7v7 in accordance with US Youth Soccer recommendations. Each team will have a licensed staff coach.
Player Development Model 1. This is a crucial time for developing advanced competency in basic technique. This platform allows for the introduction of more advanced skills. 2. Some basic tactical skills will be introduced. 3. Players can perform lower intensity activity for at least one hour. 4. Speed and agility activities will be introduced to enhance the development of the energy system. 5. Technical development will form a large focus of training and players will be encouraged to practice at home- skills such as juggling and freestyle moves. 6. Players will be encouraged to drink plenty of fluids before practices/games, and they must replenish lost fluids during and post activity. 7. Correct technique will be emphasized. 8. Sessions will be progressed into small sided games/activities- 2v1 and 3v2 with a plus player are excellent ways to introduce tactics. 9. Sessions will have a topic but activities should be changed regularly to maintain interest. 10. Creativity in practice an games will be encouraged and awarded. 11. Positive coaching focusing on strengths promotes confidence and self esteem. 12. High expectations and goals will be set for all players 13. Players will be encouraged to engage unstructured physical play. 14. Players will be working on flexibility, speed, endurance and strength- strength activities should be using their own body weight. 15. Length of session will be 90 minutes, two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday. 16. Teams will be divided to no more than 12 players per game to ensure appropriate playing time. 17. Player assessment will be twice a year, after the fall and spring seasons.
Player Development Model Technical Passing and Receiving Passing the ball on the ground with pace from different distances and receiving the ball while keeping it moving will be encouraged in academy. Shooting Players must develop ability to shoot from different distances with both feet. All players will be encouraged to shoot from any distance during games. Ball Control and Turning Players will be encouraged to keep close control of the ball and use different turning techniques to move away from the defenders. Tactical Playing Out of the Back Academy players/teams must feel comfortable playing the ball from the back through the midfield and from there to the final third of the field. Possession And Transition All academy teams will be encouraged to keep possession of the ball and playing with limited touches. Players will also be encouraged to support and move, thus creating passing options. Then the teams must learn how to transfer the ball, in the most efficient way from one area of the team to another. Offence-Defense Quick Transition When possession is lost, players must react quickly and apply pressure to regain the ball. Once possession is regained, players will be positioned immediately to counter attack.
Player Development Model Physical Speed and Agility These qualities will be evident in the game from the early ages. Endurance Individual players and teams will train to be resilient to high intensity action. Strength and Power Strong players develop their speed more quickly, prevent injuries and are more competitive in games Psychological Respect and Discipline Players will adapt to a role on the team and respect teammates, coaches, referees and opponents. Cooperation Each player will be part of a unit, and will cooperate with teammates to achieve the objectives of a given task, session or game, as well as for the entire season. Competitiveness Competitive players will be rewarded for their effort and focus.

Transition from Academy to Competitive Rosters Teams will be formed based on ability. Multiple teams will be formed if tryout numbers allow. Ideal roster size will be players. This will give the players a chance to have more playing time during games in 9v9 format. To play competitive soccer, Academy players with a birth year of 2008 and younger must be approved by the Director of Coaching and by LSA Technical Director. For the U11 teams, the DOC must determine the level our teams will compete within the LCSL. There will be three levels of competition- Competitive 1, 2 and 3. Base on the performance and results, the teams can be promoted or relegated. There will be two mandatory tournaments all CABOSA/SU teams will participate in- CABOSA Cup in the Fall, and Red River Classic in the spring. Usually, individual teams travel to two additional tournaments in the fall and spring.
Competitive U11-U19 After tryouts the teams will be divided by strength. Blue team will be the top team, White team second, and the Yellow third. There will be two to three training sessions per week based on the level of the team. Blue teams will train 3 times per week (2 times if mandatory rest day on Monday). White and Yellow teams will train 2 times per week. All teams will be coached by our professional staff that is USSF, NSCAA and UEFA certified. Play ups will be allowed only if the younger player makes the top blue team. Practices will be 90 minutes long. Here is the usual session structure:

Restructure Rationale Club Environment The experience of the club Director s after over 10 years of player development within CABOSA and Shreveport United, is that our elite level players have not been given the best possible pathway to compete at levels beyond youth and high school soccer. This is primarily due to limitations in our club player pool and varying levels of ability, commitment, and desire to compete at the highest level. With the emergence of the Developmental Academy system for both boys and girls players, it becomes more important for our players to find alternate ways to stay competitive and get exposure to college coaches and elite level training and competition. It is difficult to form full teams of players with like goals and abilities in our current environment. Therefore we feel it would be more beneficial to form teams of dual age groups thus increasing the player pools. Players with the commitment and desire to play at the next level would try out for our Senior Academy Program. Those players that still want to play at the competitive level but do not have the desire to make the commitment of the Senior Academy would still have that option. State League Structure The LPDL is designed to mimic US Soccer s Development Academies ( DA ). At present, no single club in Louisiana has the depth of talent or commitment to compete at the DA level. The LPDL will create an environment that will bring elite players together to train and compete in an environment as close to the DA environment as our soccer culture in Louisiana will permit. Like the DA, the LPDL philosophy is based on increasing the amount of training and making each competition more meaningful from the standpoint of player development. It is a league designed to provide the committed elite youth soccer players in Louisiana with opportunities to compete at the highest levels of competition and open pathways to identification to play beyond youth and high school soccer. The LPDL, like the DA, will be a club-based structure. To qualify for the LPDL, a member club must satisfy certain rather stringent criteria.
Senior Academy LPDL Requirements To qualify as a member club in the LPDL, a club must satisfy stringent guidelines to insure LPDL standards are maintained on an annual basis. The Club must enter a team in each combined age group in both genders in the LPDL. The Club's Director of Coaching must possess a US Soccer A License. The Head Coach of each LPDL team must possess a US Soccer C License or the International equivalent. The Club must have a written coaching education and development policy that encourages and requires their coaches to pursue higher licensure from US Soccer. Training Environment. The Club must have a written training curriculum for each LPDL age group. The training curriculum must include on-field, classroom, agility and fitness training and any other aspect of player development. Personal Player Development. The Club must have a written policy concerning personal development of players including the maintenance of academic standards, college counseling and standards for player conduct. Facilities. The Club must have sufficient field and training facilities including access to classroom facilities as well as fitness and agility facilities. Support Staff. The Club must be able to provide support staff to administer the on-field and off-field LPDL programs and to keep detailed records of player and coaching performance, education and development. 28 Senior Academy Program Player Expectations This program is designed for players that have a desire to play at a higher level and beyond their Shreveport United careers. Players are expected to dedicate themselves to training and for soccer to be their primary extracurricular activity. Rest and balance in life is important and there will be circumstances where players miss training. These should be the emergency situations and rare exceptions. This program is not designed for players that will choose another activity over practice. Players that miss training, games, or tournaments may be moved down to a lower level team at any point in the season and be replaced. Parent Expectations Parents are expected to support their players ability to participate fully in the Senior Academy. This means that vacations and other activities must be planned around their soccer commitments. Parents are expected to support the coaching staff and their role in the development of their child both on and off the field. Parents and coaches must work as a team and have a clear understanding of the coach s expectations as well as the role of the parent in player development. Players may be moved down to a lower level team if their parents are not following the parent code of ethics in the competitive handbook.
