A rivalry that in 2011 was rated the 13th-best rivalry in the country according to College Soccer News will be rekindled for the first time since the 2012 season on Wednesday at CIBER Field. The two teams played three times in the 2012 season as members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Pioneers will resume Summit League play on Saturday when Denver welcomes Oral Roberts to the First Annual Bark in the Park night at CIBER Field. DENVER IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS The Pioneers are currently fifth in the NSCAA Poll, the program s highest coaches poll ranking in its history. Denver is also third in the College Soccer News Poll, the Pioneers highest ranking in any poll in program history. Denver s previous high was seventh, a feat reached three times prior to the Oct. 11 poll. FOUR-YEAR CYCLE Including 2016, Denver has a record over the last four seasons. DU s 51 wins are good for fifth in the country in that span (thru 10/16). Akron leads the country with 55 wins. 3 BREAKING DOWN DENVER S 2016 SCHEDULE Denver will look to defend its back-to-back-to-back Summit League Championships in 2016 against Eastern Illinois, IPFW, IUPUI, Omaha, Oral Roberts and Western Illinois...IUPUI was the only Summit League team to take a point off the Pioneers in 2015 (1-1 draw). The Pioneers 12 match non-league slate includes nine teams that finished in the top-100 of the RPI a year ago, including three teams in the top-50...each of the four opponents in Denver s season opening road trip were in the top-76. DU will play eight multiple-game weeks in 2016, compared to just five in 2015 (18 compared to 16 regular season matches). CIBER FIELD CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium opened in The 2,000 seat stadium hosts both the men s and women s soccer programs, and sits above the 10,000 square-foot Pat Bowlen Strength and Conditioning Complex. The stadium has hosted the 2009 MPSF Men s Tournament, 2014 Summit League Men s and Women s Championships and 2015 Summit League Men s Championship. CIBER Field has also hosted the 2012 NCAA Women s Soccer First Round and 2015 NCAA Men s Soccer Second Round. Denver s men s program is at home since Jamie Franks joined the staff as an assistant in 2012 and since CIBER Field opened. A NEW ROAD FORM Denver has nine away games on the docket in 2016, including the season-opening four-match road swing. Denver has 20 points from its first eight away matches. The Pioneers earned 20 points from their eight matches away from CIBER Field in the 2015 campaign, including seven points against three opponents that were in the NSCAA poll at the time. Denver earned just one point away from home in the 2014 campaign (0-7-1) to go along with its home record. DU inked 18 of its 30 possible points away from home in the 2013 campaign, going in the side s first season in The Summit League. GOAL SCORING FORM Redshirt-junior Blake Elder scored in four-straight games in Denver s first homestand, his first four goals with the Crimson and Gold after transferring from Air Force after the 2014 season...elder is the first Denver player to score in fourconsecutive matches in its Division I history. Elder was named to the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week (9/19)...Elder s current goal scoring form has seen the junior score in six of 10 matches. Junior centerback Kortne Ford scored three goals in four matches off set pieces from 9/4 (UIC) to 9/15 (Saint Louis). Ford has headed corner kicks home from three different kick takers (Hanlin, Underwood and Akamatsu). Ford was named the NSCAA National Player of the Week on Sept. 20. Sam Hamilton, Andre Shinyashiki and Reagan Dunk have been setting up goals with seven assists, five and five, respectively in DENVER S DEFENSIVE SURGE Denver has kept nine cleansheets in the first 14, including eight of nine. The Pioneers did not allow a shot in their 2-0 win over [-/RV] Saint Louis on Sept. 15, the first time the Pioneers have kept that defensive record in their Division I history. Denver has not allowed a shot on goal in four matches this season (IUPUI, Eastern Illinois, North Florida and Saint Louis), including a 267 minute and 27 second stint. DU gave up just one shot at Eastern Illinois on Oct. 2. In Franks first season in charge, the program reached new heights. The Pioneers were the only undefeated team in the country heading into the NCAA Tournament with a mark, earned an NCAA First Round bye for the first time in program history, booked the program s first trip into the second round and hosted its first-ever NCAA Tournament home game in Prior to the final poll released on December 15, Denver spent seven-straight weeks in the top-10 of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, including two weeks spent at No. 7, the highest ranking in the program s history. With a focus on the team s defensive shape in his first year in charge, Franks squad allowed just eight goals in 2015, producing the second-best goals against average in the country (0.400), and had the second-best clean sheet rate in the country at Denver s defense allowed just 2.5 shots on goal in The only upperclassman in Denver s starting back four, Reagan Dunk became Denver s first NSCAA All-American (second team) and its first MAC Hermann Semifinalist. Dunk finished 30th in the country in assists with eight from his right back position. The 2015 season saw the Pioneers set new DI school marks in shutouts (12), consecutive shutouts (7), consecutive scoreless minutes (797) and consecutive unbeaten matches (18). In his three years as an assistant at DU, Franks primarily worked with the midfielders and forwards who amassed 110 goals in three seasons, ranking in the top 15 in the country in 2012 & His roles and responsibilities at the University of Denver included recruiting coordinator, budget manager, post game analysis of film, scouting, and assists in fundraising efforts. In addition, he worked closely with the implementation of all soccer related matters. Franks joined Pioneers after two years on staff with Wake Forest men s soccer team. Being apart of the Wake Forest soccer program both as a player and a coach from , , Franks was a part of one of the most decorated classes in college soccer history. He most recently played with the Rochester Rhinos in the USSF Division 2 Professional League before joining his alma mater to begin his coaching career. Franks ranks fifth all time for games played (95) for the Demon Deacons from , the first two of which Muuss served as assistant coach. Franks scored seven goals and 20 assists, helping lead Wake Forest to two ACC championships, three College Cups, including the 2007 national championship. After leaving Wake, Franks was selected by Chivas USA in the fourth round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. Prior to college, Franks played on the US U-18 National Team. After his first season of professional soccer in 2009, Franks joined the Wake Forest staff as the Director of Soccer Operations where he worked with media and film applications. During the 2009 season at Wake Forest, the Demon Deacons advanced to their fourth-consecutive College Cup. After a brief hiatus on staff at Wake Forest, he rejoined the in 2011 as the Volunteer Coach. His responsibilities focused on travel budget, alumni relations, social media, academic liaison, and alumni outreach. Franks graduated from Wake Forest in 2008 with a bachelor s degree in communication and successfully completed the Business Management Program at the Calloway School of Business. In the victory, Denver (12-0-2, Summit) kept its eighth cleansheet in its last nine matches, shut its opponent out for the ninth time overall this season and didn t allow a goal for the 43rd match since head coach Jamie Franks joined the Denver staff as an assistant in Overall, I thought it was a good performance from our group, Franks said. It definitely wasn t our best. We made some mistakes both technically and in our positional play tonight, but overall it was a solid performance. (OCT. 15, 2016) INDIANAPOLIS - Redshirt-junior forward Blake Elder (Fort Worth, Texas) netted his sixth goal and second game-winner of the campaign as the [7/7] University of Denver men s soccer team kept its seventh cleansheet in eight matches to give the Pioneers a 1-0 win at [9/9] Butler on Monday night at the Butler Bowl. DENVER The [5/7] University of Denver men s soccer team ran its regular season unbeaten stretch that dates back to Halloween, 2014, to 31 matches with a 2-0 win over Western Illinois on Saturday night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. In the victory, Denver (12-0-2, Summit) kept its eighth cleansheet in its last nine matches, shut its opponent out for the ninth time overall this season and didn t allow a goal for the 43rd match since head coach Jamie Franks joined the Denver staff as an assistant in 2012.
