Before we get onto today s opponents, we should really address the events that have unfolded over the last few weeks. If we cast our minds back to the emphatic & dominant display in the Blues 4-0 win over Halesowen Town, it is hard to comprehend the absolute capitulation just days later at home to Kings Lynn Town. The midweek 5-1 defeat flattered us if I m honest as the Linnets went nap & could & probably should have won even more comfortably. Then 48 hours later news breaks that Glen Driver & the club have parted company. As more information comes out it seems there were issues behind the scenes & maybe these just came to a head & simply couldn t be reconciled, whatever the reasons for his departure, Glen & Tony leave the club in a healthier & stronger position than when they arrived so for that we should thank them. It is also worth noting that the Chairman & Committee backed Glen during his time in charge to allow the club to progress, so as they say there are two sides to every story. In my mind it is crucial we now move on as soon as possible & look forward rather than back, whoever comes into replace them will need everyone to get on board & buy into the one club mentality to ensure we continue to build on the solid foundations in place. Certainly the 2-0 win at St Ives last Tuesday was an important step in steadying the ship. Goals from Finch & Ramadan getting the Blues back to winning ways. On the pitch the Blues travelled to face VCD Athletic from the Bostik Isthmian League last Saturday looking to get through the First qualifying round of the FA Trophy & bank some well needed prize money & it was mission accomplished courtesy of goals from an in form Christy Finch & Jake Reed, with a penalty save from Marcus Garnham thrown in just for good measure & I m sure you ll join me in hoping for a home tie in the draw earlier this week. Away from the First XI the Reserves continue to make steady progress under new management with a creditable 2-2 draw here last weekend against AFC Sudbury Reserves, scoring goals certainly doesn t seem to be a problem for the Blues second string right now & it s encouraging to see some of the young lads involved with the First team over the last few weeks & I m pretty certain a continuation of that would be part of the remit of the new manager. Back to this afternoons opponents Biggleswade Town & I am pretty certain this is the first time our two clubs have crossed paths, but I m waiting for our resident club statistician to confirm that, regardless, a warm welcome to the visiting officials, players & fans alike, enjoy your short stay in this part of Suffolk, just not too much please! Like ourselves Biggleswade also progressed in the FA Trophy last Saturday with a 2-1 home win over Harrow Borough & ominously have yet to taste defeat in the league this season having only conceded 7 (that s seven) goals! This suggests to me a potentially difficult afternoon if the Blues drop below the high standards they have set themselves this season, with the Blues last game here a case in point. All being well the new manager will take their place in the dugout this afternoon so let s give them a warm welcome to the club & get right behind the team he puts out this afternoon. Finally, on the subject of managerial changes within the county I m sure I wasn t the only one to notice that Paul Hurst s departure from Ipswich Town gave the local paper the chance to recycle their back page headline Blues begin search for new manager I was also wondering if anyone enquired as to whether Mr Hurst enjoyed living in this part of the world, then maybe it would have been worth a phone call Mr Chairman? Just saying... There is more cup football here under the lights this coming Tuesday when the Blues face Lowestoft Town in the League Cup, in what is our third successive home tie in the competition! See you all here, kick off 7.45pm, don t be late as the Blues have made have a habit of scoring very early goals over the last few weeks, you have been warned! Enjoy this afternoons game everyone

6 St Ives Town 0 Blues 2 Blues bag three points to get first ever win against the Saints Leiston moved back into the play-off places after gaining a first ever win over St Ives Town. In the two previous matches (both FA Vase matches) between the sides, St Ives have come out on top. Firstly, in 1988, Leiston lost 4-2 away to St Ives with Glyn Clouting and Dale Threadkell on the scoresheet. In November 2007, the Blues went down 3-2 at home to St Ives. Reserve manager Ian Cornforth and Director of football Trevor Elmy were in charge for the match and they brought in Noel Aitkens to replace Harry Knights in Leiston s only change from Saturday against Stratford Town. Leiston had an early chance, with Sam Wilson fumbling an early corner, but Jake Reed shot over the bar. Patrick Brothers ball from the left hand side was taken down well by Christy Finch and he smashed the ball into Wilson s bottom left hand corner, giving the home keeper no chance. Chances were hard to come by for both teams for a while, the next chance coming when George Bailey intercepted a Noel Aitkens past but he shot straight at Marcus Garnham. In the Blues next meaningful move, Patrick Brothers and Seb Dunbar combined excellently down the left and Dunbar s strike was just wide of the target. Moments later, the same two players were in the thick of the action, but Byron Lawrence couldn t divert the ball into the net. With the last effort of the half, Byron Lawrence fired across goal with Jake Reed just failing to latch on to it. St Ives came out for the second half with much more purpose. Ben Seymour-Shove curled wide of Garnham s post, while referee Stephen Bates waved away a penalty appeal. The referee even booked Seymour-Shove for an apparent dive in the box as he went over Kyle Hammond s challenge. The Blues first chance of the half came with the lively Seb Dunbar creating from the left but Jake Reed hit his volley into the ground and the ball went wide. Marcus Garnham parried over captain Robbie Parker s long range attempt, as both teams defended well. Sub Ben Baker was close to levelling the scores, but Garnham saved superbly from close range. A break from Leiston saw sub Joshua Moore pick out fellow sub Cemal Ramadan but he fouled the defender when through on goal. Ben Baker sliced a shot wide with another good chance going begging, but Leiston made the game safe on 87 minutes. Jake Reed worked a good opportunity and his pass across goal was turned in by Cemal Ramadan who couldn t miss. The win moves Leiston back into the play-off places. They now turn their attention to Saturday s match in the FA Trophy against VCD Athletic. Man of the Match - Noel Aitkens Attendance BIGGLESWADE TOWN HISTORY The first 80 Years Biggleswade Town were originally formed as Biggleswade F.C. in 1874 and began by playing friendlies. They became one of the founder members of the Biggleswade and District league in 2902/03 and won the championship of the first attempt. The successful season was climaxed by winning the Bedfordshire Senior Cup - The first of eight victories so far in the competition. The Waders, as the club are known, first entered the FA Cup in Chris Nunn became manager in Nov 06 after a very poor start to the season saw the team heading for certain relegation. In Feb 07 the team made up a lot of points but were still bottom of the Premier table. The team avoided relegation on the last league day of the season. The winning of the NBC Cup in the very last match of the campaign reinforced that optimism. The 2007/08 season saw the squad develop further with new signings and for the first time in 15 years the club found itself top of the division at one point. A final position of 3rd was a result of hard work and changes gradually moving the club forward. As the 2008/09 season beckoned, the new stadium was ready for occupation and the seasons in the wilderness of ground sharing were over. For the first time in the clubs 134 year history, it finally had a home of its very own Moving into the new ground certainly created a great feeling at the Club and new faces began to appear on the playing side as well as behind the scenes. As the final whistle blew on the last friendly there was a definite feeling of readiness for the forthcoming season. The Wader s first season ( ) at Step Four proved a tough start but gradually the team strengthened and finished in a comfortable twelfth place with the team taking points off every side that season except Bury Town and Hitchin Town who finished first and second respectively The season saw the Waders climb to their highest ever position in the football pyramid, finally finishing in 4th place and with the resultant position in the playoffs. Waters traveled to 3rd place Daventry Town, a team they had previously beaten both home and away in the regular season. Football being football, Daventry ran out easy winners ending Waders hope of promotion This season saw the Waders fade as season progressed. Having topped the league early in the season, injuries and suspensions took its toll and the season finished with a top half finish just outside the play offs Winning the 2012/13 playoff final secured a place in the Southern League Premier, was upstaged by the best ever season in the club s 140 year history, finishing 9th in our first premier season, reaching the first Round Proper of the FA Cup losing to a well organised Stoubridge side. Season ended with Waders beating Luton Town at Luton to lift the County Cup First season ever at step three and the Waders feel they have arrived. Finished a creditable 9th in the table and reaching the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in the clubs history put the club in the record books. The Waders were the draw specialist of the premier division and had thy converted the drawn games to winning ones, they would have finished in the play off positions. Winning the Beds Senior Cup for the second successive season was the icing on the cake This season was a real test for the Waders, with injuries both on and off the field, long term injuries meant bringing in loan players they all played their part A difficult season for the Waders, Southern League gets harder every season, an injection of new players helped steer the ship Having established their premier status the Waders went on to achieve their highest points total and finished just outside the play-offs in a creditable 7th position Tough season with the club suffering a number of significant injuries ended with a Mid Table finish and a narrow loss to Luton Town in the Beds Senior Cup Final

10 Director of Football Notes A warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of BiggleswadeTown for this afternoon s Southern League encounter. To say a lot has happened since my last notes would be an understatement. As has been well documented in the press, club website and social media, Glen and Tony decided to leave the club just over two weeks ago. I would like to place on record my personal thanks to both of them for the hard work they put in to get the club to where it stands now. They have left a great legacy and an ideal opportunity for our new management team of Stuart Boardley and David Head to progress the club even further. Stuart and David need no introduction to the club as both are club legends and I would like to wish them well in their new venture. To show how far the club has progressed the quality of the applicants for the position of first team manager proves testament to that fact. In some ways it has been easier to have been away from home in the last two games v St. Ives and VCD Athletic respectively as this has enabled all concerned to be focussed on the games. These games saw Ian Cornforth our new joint reserve team manager and myself take over the running of the team for these two games. The players have been fantastic in their attitude and approach and nobody can question the fact they all gave 100% in both matches. The two games proved to be quite different to each other. At St.Ives, on a poor playing surface and very narrow pitch against a team that hit the front players at the earliest opportunity every time it was a case of meeting the challenge head on and winning the individual battles. This we did and fully deserved our 2-0 victory, although Marcus Garnham produced a fantastic close range save when 1-0 with about five minutes to go, this being his only real save he had to make in the 90 minutes. I listened to the interview with the St Ives manager the next day and both Ian and me think he must have been at a different game to us. At VCD last Saturday we progressed to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy, thereby pocketing 3250 in the process, we had the opportunity to play our natural style of passing football on what was a very good playing surface. Harry Knights came in for the injured Tom Bullard, and once again showed what an outstanding prospect he is, defending well and able to carry the ball out from the back comfortably when space allowed him to do so. I thought Jake Reed and Christy Finch were excellent in this game, they caused problems for the VCD defenders throughout the ninety minutes, and hopefully we will see more of the same in the coming weeks. I was delighted for Matt Rutterford who came on with just over 15 minutes remaining for his first team debut and this was a fitting reward for his recent displays in the reserves. Our reward for beating VCD is a home tie against Melksham Town of the Southern League Division One South. I must admit they were a team I knew nothing about and had to find out from which part of the country they were from. The rewards for victory in this tie will be 4000, money which will go to further improve facilities here at Victory Road should we be successful. I would like to thank Ian Cornforth for his efforts both in the games and also the two training sessions he took for the players and it is clear to see why our reserve team under Ian and Dean Last have shown their true potential in the last six games. Trevor Festive Day At Leiston FC Saturday 8 th December Kick off 3.00pm Victory Road Join us for the 1 st team game against Stourbridge when once again supporters will be invited to embrace the Festive spirit by wearing a Christmas jumper, Santa hat or costume. Everyone who arrives suitably clothed will be entered into our free half time draw for a family (2 adults and 2 children) ticket for Leiston Film Theatre. 17 Stratford Town 3 Blues 2 Stratford defeat the Blues to end a tough week at the club Leiston, under caretaker charge of Tony Kinsella, made two changes to the team defeated by King s Lynn Town on Tuesday night. Jake Reed and Christy Finch replaced Matt Blake, who was injured, and Noel Aitkens who dropped to the bench. Leiston made the perfect start when Finch headed home Kyle Hammond s cross after just 22 seconds. The Stratford centre forward Michael Taylor started to impose himself and was causing problems for the Leiston defence and it was no surprise when Stratford equalised after seven minutes. The Blues had numerous chances to clear the ball but the ball landed at the feet of Wilson Carvalho who fired home from the edge of the area. The physical size of most of the Stratford players was proving difficult as they continued to press forward. On 23 minutes, a corner wasn t cleared with the ball kindly falling to Albi Skendi and from 12 yards out he made no mistake and shot firmly into the corner of the net. Leiston were gradually finding a foothold in the game with Patrick Brothers looking impressive in midfield. With nine minutes of the first period remaining, Leiston restored parity. Jake Reed showed great strength to hold off a couple of Stratford defenders, eventually managing to get a shot away which struck a defender and looped up over Richard Walton in the home goal. The second half began with both teams probing and the Leiston defence now appeared to have the measure of striker Michael Taylor. Marcus Garnham was called into action to produce a fine save from Jamie McAteer s twenty five yard effort. Taylor ghosted in behind the defence moments later but failed to hit the target from six yards out. However, in the 68th minute Stratford regained the lead. Wilson Carvalho added his second when he cut in from the left and with no one challenging him he stroked the ball into Marcus Garnham s bottom left hand corner. Leiston made three changes, with the introduction of Cemal Ramadan, Joshua Moore and Noel Aitkens in an attempt to salvage at least a point from the game. Despite lots of possession, Leiston were unable to create any clear cut chances in the final twenty minutes. The Blues now head to St Ives Town on Tuesday night for more league action.
