Band Policies and Procedures Cell phone usage Permitted when not participating in an organized activity Never permitted when in uniform Will be confiscated if causes a disruption at any time Disruptions Band is a class; it s just not in a class room Please refrain from interrupting class Do not deliver food to your child during a football game Do not cause a distraction while the band is in the stands Do not call/text your child while they are in class
Band Policies and Procedures Check Out Procedures Directors Must have form from Parent in Advance Get form from website Request for Student Release from Band Event/Travel Can Only Check Out to Own Parent not to another person Exception: Can Check Out to Another Adult With Notarized Note in Advance Must be verified by directors in Advance
Attendance & Grading It is expected that members of any performing ensemble in the Department of Bands will attend every rehearsal and performance in its entirety. Each student will start the 1st quarter with 100 points. The following is a breakdown of point deductions for each infraction: Unexcused absence from practice pts Unexcused absence from performance pts Tardy to practice. 3 pts Tardy to performance pts Unprepared for rehearsal pts (i.e., no instrument, music, flip folder, drill coordinates, etc.)
Attendance & Grading During the fall semester especially, we are very, very serious about attendance because of its impact on quality. Much like athletics, a performer s presence at these rehearsals cannot be inconsistent if they expect to remain performance ready and ultimately in the performance line-up.
Attendance & Grading Policy Attendance at practices and performances is mandatory. Any student who misses any portion of a rehearsal is subject to replacement for an indeterminate length of time if a qualified alternate is available. Notify the director in writing at least 4 weeks in advance for marching band and 8 weeks in advance for concert band of the time you want your request to be considered. Considered does not necessarily mean granted.
ABSENCE REQUESTS What, When and Where A written ABSENCE REQUEST is required in advance of an absence, a tardy, or an early dismissal. A completed and signed ABSENCE REQUEST FORM is required to be turned in: 4 weeks in advance for marching band 8 weeks in advance for concert band. Absence Request Forms are Located: In the wall files outside the Band Office Online at
Attendance & Grading Excused Absence Criteria 1) Personal illness 2) Death of a relative 3) Observance of a religious holiday 4) College Visits ONLY for rehearsals (not performances) IF prior arrangements have been made with the Director. 5) Emergency circumstances which, in the judgment of the band director, constitute good and sufficient cause for absence from band. WORK IS NOT a valid excuse to miss school therefore it is invalid for missing rehearsals or performances.
Attendance & Grading Any absence from rehearsal will lead to the performer being held out of that week s performance. Any absence from a performance will lead to a performer being pulled from the performance line-up for an indeterminate length of time possibly for the remainder of the season. We will not divert teaching time from those who have been in attendance in order to mainstream those who have not been in attendance back into the performance line-up.
Attendance & Grading It is important to remember that attendance is the cornerstone of quality in any fine arts performing group.
and a good time was had by all.
