2 Welcome and Safety Welcome to the 2016 Bully Zero Australia Foundation Begonia Rally the sixth and final Round of the 2016 Focus on Furniture and Bedding Victorian Rally Championship (VRC). This Spectator Guide includes some requirements necessary to keep you and others safe while enjoying your time watching Victoria s best rally crews in action. Please take the time to read our safety instructions, and encourage your group and others to heed them. Spectators interested in tracking the stage times or locations of competitors are encouraged to download the RallySafe app by NextFaze and Status Awareness Systems either by searching your smartphone s app store, or by clicking or typing one of these links in your browser: iphone goo.gl/nnxxyz or Android goo.gl/0xnsv2. Make sure you get to Ballarat Airport, where competitors will gather at Rally Headquarters (HQ) and Service Park from 7:30am, before starting at 9am towards the nearby Ballarat Light Car Club (BLCC) Motorsport Complex for Special Stage 1. They return to HQ after forest stages near Caralulup or Sulky several times through the day, and take another blast around the Motorsport Complex from 2pm. Spectators are welcome in the Service Park, but please follow official requests and respect the time and space of competitors and their service crew. Catering and amenities will be available throughout the day at HQ. I would like to thank all the people and organisations that have contributed to making The Begonia Rally possible, including: the Pyrenees Shire, Hepburn Shire, Central Goldfields Shire Council, City of Ballarat, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and the many volunteers from inside and outside the Ballarat Light Car Club who are giving up their time to help us in the forest. I would also like to thank the event sponsors, Bully Zero Australia Foundation, Western Victorian Crane Services for their generous support of The Begonia Rally and the Championship sponsor: Focus on Furniture, and OurAuto of the Excel Series for their ongoing support. Please support them when you need a product they supply. Arron Secombe Clerk of Course, and President, Ballarat Light Car Club Page 2 of 11

4 SPECTATOR INSTRUCTIONS (Please Read) 1. Spectators are directed to view the cars whilst standing within the markers indicating the limits of the controlled spectator area - spectating outside those areas indicated is prohibited. 2. Spectators must not stand in prohibited areas, and must at all times stand behind the bunting or barriers which mark the spectator area. 3. The instructions of the Spectator Marshals must be obeyed. The Spectator Marshall has the power to have a stage postponed until the spectator point is controlled to his / her satisfaction. 4. It is prohibited to ignore the spectator instructions and find your own way around. Not only is there a danger of meeting up with an oncoming rally vehicle, but many roads have wash-aways, collapsed bridges, etc. which are potentially hazardous for the driver. The main spectator route has been surveyed and is safe. SPECTATING MUST DO S 1. Be prepared. Weatherwise: bring a hat, ground cover, sun screen, and protection in case of rain or cold weather. If food and drink are not available at spectator points make sure that you bring your own. 2. Park your car sensibly so that it will not obstruct emergency vehicles, competitors, service crews or other spectators. Obey parking instructions given by signs or officials. It is advisable to park your car facing the way out. 3. Do not try to emulate rally drivers. If you give cause for complaint it will reflect badly on the rally and the sport as a whole. Drive carefully to and from spectator points and be ready to give way to other traffic on narrow stretches of road. 4. If you have to take dogs or young children to spectator points, make sure they are completely under your control and that they do not get in the way of rally cars or mechanics or officials at work. 5. Do not light fires or smoke in the forests. Do not smoke near a car that is being serviced or refuelled. 6. Keep clear of rally control points at all times from the timing marker to the control. If control officials ask you to move, please help them maintain event safety by doing so. Remember that they have a difficult job to do as it is. If you want to see a control point in action, then stand well back. 7. Rally cars can lose control and leave the road at any time. Make sure that you stand behind any barriers within areas designated for viewing by this spectator guide or officials or marshals. Do not stand in No Go areas or outside the designated viewing areas. 8. The instructions of spectator marshals must be obeyed. They have the power to stop a stage until the spectator point is controlled to their satisfaction. 9. Do not ignore this spectator guide and try and find your own way around. The spectator route in this Guide has been surveyed and is safe. 10. Take your litter home. It is handy to have bag or carton with you. Please leave our countryside tidy. 11. At service or refuel points do not crowd mechanics when they are working. Besides hindering them, you may get injured. Page 4 of 11
