The choice is yours but the online form is the easiest for us. The first event will come along quicker than you think, so renew now since you must be a member of a car club for your licence to be valid. This will enable acceptance of entries at your first event for the year to be performed quicker. LADIES CLASS for 2017 and beyond CAMS are urging panels and clubs to consider the need for gender class in motorsport, particularly with respect to State and National Championships. This issue was discussed at the November SDCC Committee meeting and after much discussion it was felt that the views of members should be sought before a decision is made as to including a Ladies class in our 2017 Khanacross series. As we have some time until our first khanacross event on Sunday 23 rd April your thoughts and comments are most welcome. 9 The Southern District Car Club CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) Junior Development Program is aimed at enabling new drivers (regardless of skill level) (12 to 17 years of age ) to participate in activities in a well-organized, highly disciplined and controlled environment. CAMS in conjunction with the Southern District Car Club have enabled this project to happen. We Believe that assisting young drivers to develop skills in car control and responsible vehicle management, prior to obtaining their civil driving license, makes them better and safer road users. To offer this program SDCC have fuel, tyres, track lease, and general maintenance of the cars, helmets through the year. All members of SDCC donate their time and skills to enable this program to be offered to the community. To assist the instructor each time the student participates, they are assessed in 18 different tasks appropriate clothing and apparel / Helmet correctly fitted (self) / seating position, mirrors,feet, seat belt / Attentive to surroundings / correct start, moving off / Stops in Start garage safely / follows instructions of officials / uses hands on steering wheel correctly / negotiates penalty cones / negotiates cornering/ correct uses of gears / stop within stop garage / 3 point turn / reversing skills / concentrates for entire course / travels at a speed appropriate to skill level / listens to instructor / parks and secures vehicle. Progress is assessed by learning / able / Mastering / competent / competitive. This information is strictly for SDCC Instructors as students may and do have different instructors over the 4 days. Parents are welcome to discuss how their child is progressing. Juniors who display adequate skills to compete in a motorkhana or Khanacross will be given the opportunity to use the Southern Districts Car Club cars for a small fee at SDCC events. If SDCC cars are used in competitive events, experienced SDCC drivers will be made available to sit in the passenger seat as an instructor. Remember this magazine is for you so please feel free for input Safe driving Dianne Wood Welcome Back Guy After an interesting and eventful year with the British Rally Championship Junior Series Guy has returned to South Australia and after the support given to him by Southern Districts Car Club Junior Development Program it is very pleasing that Guy is committed to the 2017 Junior Development Program and will be a most welcome instructor for We thank Guy and indeed all of our instructors for their enthusiasm and dedication to this most worthwhile activity. Thank you to June and Reg for taking the attached photos on their trip. They also managed to act as officials on the rally this photo was taken at.

16 Private Sheds at MMM It has become apparent that there are several members of SDCC that would see the benefit in having private sheds at MMM for them to use for storage of their race cars, equipment and to use on race day. To gauge how practical and feasible this would be I am writing this article to get a feel of how many members would use this service if implemented. One of several suggestions of how it would work is as follows. Sheds would have to be of a uniform size, colorbond and a minimum standard i.e. Shed King, Stratco etc. They would be single car sheds, professionally assembled. They would be located in groups, 1 shed and 1 car / trailer park next to it, then the next shed and so on. One group (or the first / only group) would be at the front entrance to MMM between the gate and the pit fence line. If there was a large number of sheds then another group might be in the back storage area. There would be rules as to the use of each shed i.e. no illegal use. A contract between the member and SDCC would have to be signed, indicating the rules would be abided to. MMM would reserve the right to inspect each shed with minimal notice. Members would pay for the purchase and construction of the shed they want to use. Sheds would always be the property of SDCC. The financials would be as follows. If each shed cost $4000 then the member that paid for that shed would have the free use of it for 10 years. If at the end of that period the member wanted it for further years it would cost them $400 / year. If the member no longer wanted to use it then SDCC could lease that shed to any other financial member at a similar or slightly higher cost. Payment would be in advance of construction and several sheds would be assembled simultaneously. 18 Rally Officials! Time to register for Round 1 of the SARC. Second Valley Forest, 7 th of May We are really looking forward to seeing you on the weekend of the 6 th and 7 th of May for the 2017 RAA Southern Rally. Please follow this link and register to make sure we can get you a great spot for the rally. If you ve been an official before you ll know it s either peaceful forests or breathtaking coastal views broken by the sounds of Classic and powerful rally cars. This will be your last chance to see a rally in this forest for a while, and we d love to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the experience. If you want to work with particular people let us know and we ll keep you together. We will however, be trying to put some new people with experienced people this year. So if you re a seasoned official with a wealth of knowledge, we are asking for you to pass on these skills and coach some new people who would be extras at your point. So it s really important we get as many officials as possible to make this happen. It s important for the sport. If you know of some new people who might be interested feel free to Forward this on.
