Ht Wt Cl T W-L ERA Note THE FIRST pitch With just two home conference series remaining this season, the Georgia State baseball team (30-13, 10-8 CAA) plays host to Hofstra (11-23, 9-12) this Friday through Sunday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Field at Panthersville. Georgia State is 8-4 against Hofstra since beginning CAA play in 2006 and has won five straight in the series, including last year s three game sweep of the Pride in Atlanta. The Panther pitching staff looks to continue a string of 18.2 straight scoreless innings after consecutive 5-0 wins over Northeastern and Oglethorpe. Even more impressive, GSU has not allowed an earned run in 34.1 consecutive innings, dating back to the second inning of Friday s game one against Northeastern. Senior Charley Olson (4-3, 3.06 ERA) will take the mound for the Panthers in Friday s opener, having thrown at least seven innings in each of his last four starts, all CAA games. The Panthers will then throw CAA wins co-leaders Will Campbell (6-1, 3.09) and Justin Malone (6-0, 3.77) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The reigning CAA Pitcher of the Week, Malone comes off a complete game shutout of Northeastern last weekend in which he allowed just four total hits. He has not lost a decision since April 2 of last season, winning eight straight games. Georgia State now has six shutouts this season, tying a school record set in GSU has the CAA s lowest team ERA at 4.14 overall. Outfielder Ryan Fleming leads the Panthers this season with 19 RBIs in conference play, belting six home runs and six doubles in 17 CAA games. Averaging one full walk per game, senior Rob Lind ranks first in the conference and third in the NCAA in that category. The Panthers currently stand in fifth place in the CAA standings with four conference series left to play. The Pride enters this weekend in ninth place in the league. The right-hander from Abingdon, Va., has not lost since April 2, 2010, taking a defeat at Towson in the Panthers 14-8 loss. The school s all-time saves leader after two seasons at closer, Malone has converted to a starting pitcher this season and not missed a beat. He is undefeated through 10 starts, and has 37 strikeouts compared to just 10 walks in starting 6-0. He is coming off his first career complete game shutout on Sunday at Northeastern, holding the Huskies to just four hits in clinching the CAA series for the Panthers in a 5-0 victory. did you know?
