Sophomore Lauren Miller is from Blanchard and attended East Central University after her time at Blanchard HS. She is the younger sister of former Sooner Leslie Miller, who played at OU from Freshman Bailey Thompson hails from Edmond (Deer Creek HS), while senior Bryana Wade is a Choctaw native (Mount St. Mary HS) and freshman Casady Webb is from Davis. LAST TIME THEY MET The Sooners defeated the Mean Green in Norman, 6-3, on April 20. Erin Miller hit a two-run homer, while Kelsey Arnold broke a 3-3 tie in the third with a two-run homer of her own. History was made when the teams met again in Denton on April 30 as Lauren Chamberlain became the NCAA s all-time home run leader with a grand slam in OU s 6-2 win.

OU is hitting.342 or better as a team in every inning this year except for the fourth (.290) PARKER WINS NATIONAL HONORS In helping the team to a 4-0 record, Paige Parker was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week, the ESPNW National Player of the Week and the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. For the week, she was 4-0 and threw three complete games with two shutouts in four starts with a 0.81 earned run average as she gave up three earned runs in 26.0 innings. Parker struck out 19 and walked six while opponents hit just.234 off her. This is the second time in her career that Parker has been named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week, also earning the honor for the week of April 6 last year. She joins former Sooner Keilani Ricketts as the only players in program history to win the award more than once. Parker now has three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors this year, also winning on March 15 and Feb. 23. It was the 10th such honor of her career, putting her in fifth place all-time in league annals behind Texas Cat Osterman (25), Ricketts (16), Texas Blaire Luna (13) and Missouri s Chelsea Thomas (12). In the series opener, she struck out five and walked three in tossing her seventh shutout of the year. Parker was flat-out dominant for OU Saturday, throwing a career-high 8.0 innings to record her eighth shutout of the season. She struck out six and gave up just four hits with no walks. She now has 17 shutouts in her career, tying her for ninth in OU history despite being only a sophomore. She struck out six and gave up just four hits with no walks. Her second Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award came on March 15 when she went 4-0, did not allow a run in 18.0 innings of work and threw the fifth no-hitter of career. She gave up just four hits and struck out 22 against just three walks while throwing two shutouts and combining on another. Opponents hit just.070 against Parker on the weekend. In taking her first honor of the year, she won both starts in complete game efforts at the Troy Cox Classic, giving up one run in 11.0 innings while striking out 15 and walking one. SCORELESS STREAK ENDS AT 30.1 FOR PARKER In the midst of her remarkable week, Paige Parker had a run of 30.1 scoreless innings from the sixth inning on April 1 against Kansas to the third inning on April 10 at Baylor. It was the longest streak by an OU pitcher since Keilani Ricketts had a 34.1 inning scoreless streak from Feb March 2, The 30.1 scoreless march for Parker was the best of her career and her seventh streak of at least 20 innings. Oklahoma is the only program to be ranked every week of the NFCA poll, 315 straight polls. In addition, OU moved up five places in the latest RPI poll from No. 12 to No. 7. It s the team s highest RPI ranking since being No. 1 in all eight polls during the 2013 season.

SOONERS PLACED ATOP BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL AGAIN For the fourth year in a row and the seventh time in the last eight years, the Oklahoma softball team has topped the Big 12 Preseason Poll. The Sooners got five of the seven first-place votes. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team. The Sooners led Big 12 teams with 35 points, while Baylor received the other two first-place votes and ranked second with 32 points. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. SOONERS SWEEP BAYLOR IN WACO Oklahoma became the first team since 1996 to sweep a three-game series at Baylor last weekend, taking over first place in the Big 12 standings in the process. Three home runs Paige Parker s shutout as Oklahoma struck first in the series, 5-0. Parker struck out five and walked three in tossing her seventh shutout of the year, while Sydney Romero hit a solo homer and Erin Milelr and Tori Nirschl each added two-run shots in the victory. Kady Self hit a grand slam in the eighth inning and Parker threw a complete game shutout as OU clinched the series with a 4-0 win. Baylor was shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since the second and third games of the 2013 season. The Lady Bears didn t get a runner past first base, and after a leadoff single in the fifth, Parker retired the final 12 batters. The Sooners finished the weekend with 7-4 victory to complete the sweep. Parker earned her third win of the weekend and her fifth straight victory over the Lady Bears dating back to last season. Nicole Pendley had a season-high four RBI, including a three-run homer in the fifth that turned out to be the game-winning hit. OU TAKES SERIES WIN OVER KANSAS Caleigh Clifton s first career home run was a walk-off grand slam as OU beat Kansas in the series opener, 5-2. Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, the Sooners rallied for five runs on three hits, two walks and an error to complete the team s sixth comeback win of the season. OU then saw its winning streak over Kansas in Norman end at 24 games with a 5-2 loss. The Sooners left a season-high 12 runners on base, include two runners in five separate innings. In the finale, Paige Parker struck out a season-high 12 batters as OU captured a series victory over Kansas with a 4-0 win. She struck out two batters in each of the first six innings and retired 17 straight batters at one point. SOONERS OPEN BIG 12 PLAY WITH BEDLAM WIN A tight Bedlam contest turned into a run-rule win as the Sooners beat Oklahoma State in five innings, With Oklahoma leading 3-2 after four innings, the Sooners hit three home runs in a seven-run fifth to notch their 11th straight win in the series. Shay Knighten hit a two-run homer, Kady Self added a three-run shot later in the inning and Erin Miller hit a walk-off, two-run blast to right field to end it. Oklahoma is also now 16-5 all-time in Big 12 openers. In fact, OU has won five straight such games, outscoring opponents 39-6 during the streak. TWO TOP-25 WINS HIGHLIGHT FULLERTON WEEKEND Oklahoma opened play at the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, Calif., with a 6-1 win over DePaul. Erin Miller and Sydney Romero each had three hits, while the team had 15 total for the third straight game. Kelsey Stevens and Jayden Chestnut combined on a three-hitter. The Sooners held a 3-0 lead through two innings against Cal State Fullerton, but the Titans rallied for six runs in the bottom of the third en route to handing OU its first road loss of the season, 7-5. The Sooners helped Fullerton in the inning by committing two errors and issuing five walks. Batting leadoff for the first time this season, Erin Miller matched a season high for hits by going 3-5 at the plate and drove in a season-best four runs. She doubled, homered and scored twice in OU s 7-1 win over Grand Canyon. The Sooners secured arguably their biggest win of the year when Shay Knighten hit a two-run walk-off home run to beat No. 6 Alabama, 2-0. 9 2016 OKLAHOMA SOFTBALL 9 Now in her 22nd season at the University of Oklahoma, head coach Patty Gasso has molded the OU softball program into a national power and permanently placed herself among the elite college softball coaches in the country as evident by the selection to the 2012 NFCA Hall of Fame class. The Sooners have reached the postseason in each one of her 21 seasons, and in the process, advanced to the Women s College World Series nine times. The WCWS run began in 2000 when her team won the NCAA National Championship in OU s first appearance and continued through the 2013 campaign when the team won its second national championship, becoming just the fifth program to win multiple national titles. With 25 seasons as a head coach to her name, Gasso has a career collegiate coaching record of (.766) and holds an overall record of (.772) at the University of Oklahoma. Needing only 1,300 games to get there, Gasso became the second fastest to reach 1,000 wins in NCAA Division I history during the 2015 season. She has won more Big 12 games (279-84) than any coach in the league s history and has twice as many wins as any other coach in OU history.
