OU s record was the second-best team performance at the tournament behind only No. 1 Florida State s 5-0 showing. The Sooners opened the event with a 9-1 run-rule victory over No. 18/21 Kentucky in six innings, good for OU s first ranked win of the season and its fourth straight run-rule win. Caleigh Clifton and Sydney Romero both had two extra-base hits, and Falepolima Aviu hit an RBI single to end the game in walk-off fashion. In Thursday s nightcap, OU took down RV/No. 24 Notre Dame 6-2. Shay Knighten was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Raegan Rogers drove in a pair of runs. Rogers and freshman Grace Lyons both homered in the contest. Junior Mariah Lopez threw her second career no-hitter to open Friday s action, facing just three batters above the minimum in OU s 4-0 win over Florida Atlantic. She struck out a career-high 13 batters, good for her third game this season with double-digit strikeouts. Offensively, OU was led by Jocelyn Alo s 3-for-3 performance. OU suffered its first loss of the season that afternoon, falling 7-4 to No. 1/2 Florida State. After Florida State took a 3-0 lead on a pair of home runs in the second, the Sooners tied it up with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Romero then crushed a solo home run to put OU on top, but the Seminoles would hit three more homers to earn the win. The Sooners responded with a commanding 17-3 victory over RV/NR Hofstra in five innings on Saturday to close out the weekend. Alo hit two home runs in the game while Romero, Lyons and Grace Green each had one. The Sooners (8-1) five home runs against the Pride (0-2) were the most by an OU team in one game since hitting six against Kansas on April 14, RUN IN POLLS CONTINUES After going 4-1 last week, OU moved to No. 4 in both the USA Today/NFCA Division I Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. Oklahoma is the only program to be ranked every week of the NFCA poll, a run of 356 straight polls. Oklahoma entered the 2019 season ranked fourth in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Preseason Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Preseason Top 25. OU s No. 4 spot in the NFCA Poll marks the ninth straight year the Sooners have started in the NFCA s top 10, good for the nation s longest active streak. OU has been ranked in the top five in six of the past seven years, which is tied with Florida for the most over that stretch. Oklahoma, Michigan, UCLA and Washington are the only programs to be ranked in every NFCA preseason poll, which dates back to This marks the 12th straight season and 15th in the 17-year history of the ESPN.com/USA Today poll that Oklahoma is ranked in the preseason top 10.

She struck out a career-high 13, marking the most strikeouts by a Big 12 pitcher in a single game in 2019 and her third double-digit K performance of the year. Over the weekend, she allowed just two hits, both against No. 18 Kentucky. She led the Big 12 with a.045 opponent batting average. Currently, Lopez leads all conference pitchers with a 0.27 ERA and a.048 opponent batting average during her junior campaign. She has thrown three shutouts in four starts this season. PITCHING CIRCLE RELOADS Despite the departure of 2018 seniors Paige Parker (four-time All-American, fourtime Big 12 Pitcher of the Year) and Paige Lowary (No. 1 pick in 2018 NPF Draft), the OU pitchers are poised to be one of the premiere staffs in the country this season. Junior Mariah Lopez has already began to step into the spotlight, earning the Big 12 s first two Pitcher of the Week honors of the season. Fellow junior Parker Conrad enters her second season with Oklahoma after transferring from Missouri prior the 2018 season. Conrad earned her first OU win last season against Illinois State, retiring 18 of 20 batters faced in a six-inning shutout while striking out a career-high six. Overall, she finished the 2018 season with an ERA of She made her first appearance of 2019 against Hofstra on Feb. 16, throwing one inning. Lopez and Conrad are joined by junior transfers Shannon Saile (Florida International) and Giselle Juarez (Arizona State) for A native of Land O Lakes, Fla., Saile earned a pair of All-Conference USA First Team accolades in 2017 and 2018 with FIU. In 2018, Saile went with a 1.93 ERA over innings pitched, fanning 267 batters throughout the season. Her strikeout rate of 10.3 K/7IP ranked sixth nationally last year. In 2018, Juarez earned NFCA First Team All-America honors behind a 26-6 record and a 1.22 ERA. She allowed just 91 hits and 39 earned runs over innings with 13 shutouts, ranking third nationally. Additionally, she registered 305 strikeouts last spring to become one of just nine NCAA pitchers to reach the 300-strikeout threshold. THE HAWAIIAN PUNCH Jocelyn Alo was exceptional in her freshman campaign and is looking to carry that momentum in The NFCA and Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Alo led the nation with 30 home runs in 2018 to tie the Oklahoma single-season record, the Big 12 single-season record and the NCAA DI freshman single-season record. She also led the country with 170 total bases and ranked second nationally in RBIs (72), third in slugging percentage (.977), seventh in RBIs per game (1.03), 11th in on-base percentage (.549), 13th in runs per game (1.03), 14th in walks per game (.79), 25th in batting average (.420) and 46th in hits (73). The Hauula, Hawaii, native paced OU in home runs, total bases, batting average (.420), RBIs (72), slugging (.977), on-base percentage (.549) and walks (14) during the 2018 season. The freshman was clutch during postseason, drilling solo home runs to give Oklahoma the lead in both of its 2018 WCWS wins (vs. Arizona State and Florida). Last year, Alo was named an NFCA First Team All-American, a First Team All-Region selection, a First Team All-Big 12 pick and an All-Big 12 Freshman Team honoree. She was also placed on the WCWS and Big 12 Championship all-tournament teams and was named a top-10 finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year. Alo carried her momentum into the start of her sophomore season. She has matched a single-game record with four three-hit games. Alo smashed her first home run of the season against Hofstra before drilling her second later that game. THERE S NO K IN SYDNEY ROMERO Since the start of the 2016 season, Sydney Romero has played in 205 of Oklahoma s 207 games, starting 204 of those contests. In that span, Romero has made 675 at-bats and struck out 21 total times. In 2018, Romero s strikeout rate of AB/K (195 AB, 7 K) ranked 19th nationally and third among student-athletes in Power Five conferences. Once a student-athlete ( ) and graduate assistant ( ) for the Sooners, the former Jennifer Jaime returns to Oklahoma after most recently spending 13 years at Florida. During Rocha s tenure, the Gators won two NCAA titles (2014, 2015) and made nine Women s College World Series appearances (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018). Additionally, Florida claimed seven SEC regular season titles (2008, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and four SEC Tournament tiles (2008, 2009, 2013, 2018) with Rocha on staff. Leading the Gators pitching staff, Rocha has coached seven All-Americans. In 2015, she was named NFCA Assistant Coach of the Year. Another new coach familiar to the Sooner program is Keilani Ricketts, who returned to Oklahoma to serve as the volunteer assistant in Ricketts is one of just three players in college softball history to be named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year more than once, joining the ranks of Cat Osterman and Danielle Lawrie. Ricketts became the first Sooner to win the award in 2012 and then repeated in The first four-time All-American in program history, Ricketts was named the 2013 Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year as she helped lead Oklahoma to its second national title. Selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2013 NPF Draft, Ricketts has spent the past six seasons with USSSA Pride, most recently leading the Pride to the 2018 Cowles Cup. Additionally, Ricketts joined the Toyota Shokki out of Kariya, Japan, in August Ricketts is also a member of the USA Softball Women s National Team. Also joining the Sooner staff are Kelsey Arnold and Lea Wodach, who will serve as undergraduate assistants for 2019 as they complete their academic programs. The duo exhausted their athletic eligibility in 2018, finishing their playing careers with two NCAA titles, four Big 12 regular season crowns, two Big 12 postseason trophies and three WCWS appearances. Finally, a pair of graduate assistants round out the OU coaching staff s new additions: DJ Gasso and Delanie Gourley. Gasso concluded his collegiate baseball career in 2018 at the University of Central Oklahoma, while Gourley graduated from Florida in 2017 after earning All-America First-Team, All-Southeast Region First-Team and All-SEC First-Team honors in both her junior and senior seasons. THAT LL LEAVE A MARK... ON THE RECORD BOOKS Senior captain and Oklahoma native Caleigh Clifton set a program record on Feb. 16 for the number of times hit by a pitch. The first pitch of the game against Hofstra hit her in the leg for her 55th career HBP. ROAD WARRIORS The Sooners will be road tested in 2019 with 38 of their 53 games being held on the road or at neutral sites. Oklahoma will play just 15 games at Marita Hynes Field in OU has played fewer regular season home games just three other times in the Patty Gasso era: nine in 1997, 12 in 1996 and six in Additionally, 15 home games ties for the third lowest in the country among major conference teams this season. Only Oregon State and Iowa have fewer, each scheduled to host 12 home games in Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin are also set to play 15 games at home this year, making Oklahoma and Oregon State the only non-big 10, Power-Five schools competing at home 15 times or fewer this spring. The Sooners are playing a road-heavy schedule due to Big 12 scheduling. In 2018, the Sooners series against Iowa State was moved to Norman due to snow in Ames, Iowa. As a result, Oklahoma will travel to Ames in both 2019 and 2020 and will host just four conference games (Baylor series and one Bedlam contest) in Norman this year. QUICK HITS A pair of Oklahoma alumnae were named to the 2019 USA Softball Women s National Team: Shelby Pendley ( ) and Keilani Ricketts ( ). They were joined at National Team Selection Trials by former Sooners Lauren Chamberlain ( ) and Paige Lowary ( ), current graduate assistant Delanie Gourley (Florida, ) and current sophomore Jocelyn Alo. Of the 42 athletes invited to the trials, nine are currently a member of an NCAA softball team. Alo is the only underclassman in that group. Oklahoma finished fall exhibition play undefeated, overall. The Sooners outscored their opponents over eight games. The Sooners are scheduled to have 17 of their regular season games televised. Six contests will air on the ESPN family of networks, one on FSN, one on FS1 and nine (all at home) on Sooner Sports TV Powered by FOX Sports.
