Since being shut out against Texas on April 18, the Sooners have won their past seven games and are averaging 7.7 runs in those contests. They ve scored at least eight runs in five of those seven games. Destinee Martinez is riding a seven-game hitting streak, her longest of the season. Her average has gone up 49 points during the streak from.273 on April 18 to its current.322 as she s gone 13 for her last 21 (.619). Shelby Pendley s strikeout rate has gone down considerably since the beginning of the season. In her first 81 at-bats, she struck out 21 times, or one every 3.86 at-bats. She has since struck out just four times in her last 68 at-bats, or once every 17.0 at-bats. Georgia Casey s batting average sits at.374. Her average has been below the.300 line only once this season, when it was.295 after the Northwestern game on Feb. 21. It hasn t dropped below the.357 mark since March 4. OU AMONG THE HOTTEST TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY Since being swept in a doubleheader at Louisiana-Lafayette on March 15, the Sooners have won 22 of their past 24 games. OU s winning percentage of.917 in games played after March 15 (through April 30) is sixth best in the country. Team W L Pct. 1. She finished the weekend by going 2-5 with four runs scored, two RBI, six walks and two stolen bases. She drove in 11 runs as the Sooners went 5-0 for the week. Highlights of Pendley s week included a grand slam against Central Arkansas and a school-record tying two triples in game two of a doubleheader against UAB. Oklahoma has now had four Big 12 Players of the Week this season, the most of any team in the conference. In addition to Pendley, Kady Self (April 1), Whitney Ellis (March 11) and Destinee Martinez (Feb. 25) have all been recognized this year. Kelsey Stevens has also taken home two Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors in The six total weekly awards won by the Sooners are the most of any school in the league. SOONERS OVERWHELM ARKANSAS IN FIVE, 10-2 A six-run first inning set the tone as Oklahoma overwhelmed Arkansas in five innings, 10-2, on April 30. The big blow came from Georgia Casey as she hit a three-run homer in the first. The win was OU s 11th straight against a non-conference opponent. SWEEP OF UAB BOOSTS RPI RANKING Stepping out of conference play, OU swept a three-game series from UAB, which entered with the No. 33 RPI in the country. The opening 11-3, five-inning win was highlighted by the return of Lauren Chamberlain, who missed the previous 23 games with a back injury. She was 2-2 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored. In game two of a doubleheader, Shelby Pendley tied a school record with two triples and drove in five runs in an 8-4 victory. It was the ninth time in program history someone had two triples in a game. In addition she s slugged with a.589 on-base percentage. It marked the third time this season that she had broken up a no-hitter in the sixth inning or later, doing so with two outs in the seventh at Arizona State on Feb. 14 and leading off the seventh at Louisiana- Lafayette on March 15. A three-run third inning and a clutch relief appearance from Pendley gave OU a 3-2 win Sunday to complete the sweep. Pendley entered the game in the fifth inning with the Sooners up 3-2 but LSU had the bases loaded with one out. Unfazed, Pendley struck out the next two batters to end the threat and finished the game by picking up her first career save. In the top of the fourth, LMU had runners on first and second. A sharp grounder was hit to Shelby Pendley at third base. She stepped on third for the force, threw to Javen Henson at second base for the second out and Henson threw on to Lauren Chamberlain at first base to complete the triple play. She s a focused competitor that has the drive to be great and we re really excited to have her. You can never have too much pitching, and Maggie will get a chance to step forward and really throw a significant amount of innings. Maggie brings something different and unique compared to what we will have, and ultimately that will make our staff more well-rounded and balanced. I ve wanted to play softball at OU since the first time I attended a OU softball camp when I was seven years old. This past year when I took my first visit and toured the softball facilities, campus and the academic center, I felt right at home. I look forward to playing for the coaching staff and being part of a winning tradition. Coach Gasso Says: Tyler appealed to me immediately because of her athletic look on the field. I ve seen her play shortstop and second base; I ve seen her play multiple positions on the field and defensively she was always a standout. She s very smooth and effortless in the field. Offensively, she has really elevated her game. She has game-changing power and speed, which makes her an outstanding all-around athlete. She s grown up in our camps, so I ve been able to see her progress and become a very talented athlete. She s a local athlete and we always try to keep our best, local talent here to play for us. She has a very strong work habit; she has engaged in crossfit training for a while and is really dedicated to her sport. She s committed and disciplined in becoming a very good player, so I m excited about what she is going to bring to the team.
