OU won both games by a combined score of OU and Evansville have one opponent in common this year, both losing to Auburn. FACING WESTERN KENTUCKY Oklahoma has never faced Western Kentucky, though OU is all-time against teams from Conference USA. The Sooners have won 37 straight games against C-USA teams, going 28-0 vs. North Texas, 7-4 vs. Louisiana Tech, 6-1 vs. UAB, 5-0 vs. Florida International, 3-1 vs. UTSA, 2-0 vs. UTEP, 2-2 vs. Florida Atlantic and 2-3 vs. Southern Miss. QUICK HITS Through 2/28, Paige Parker is 5th among active pitchers in career shutouts (23), 8th in wins (69) and ERA (1.69), 14th in complete games (59), 15th in strikeouts/7 IP (7.34), 20th in strikeouts (533), 31st in innings pitched (508.0) and 38th in starts (73)... Paige Lowary is 25th among active pitchers with 6 career saves The team has doubled in 10 straight games and has 19 overall during that stretch... the pitching staff has struck out at least seven batters in five of the last six games ALL LOSSES BY ONE RUN All four of Oklahoma s losses this year have been by one run and have come against teams that were ranked or receiving votes. In fact, in each game OU had, at worst, the potential winning run at the plate in the seventh inning. In a 3-2 loss to No. 2/2 Auburn, Oklahoma trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning but rallied for two runs and found itself with the tying run on first and winning run at the plate as the game ended. In a 1-0 loss to No. 13/13 Washington, OU got the leadoff hitter on in the top of the seventh, but a sacrifice bunt was popped into a double play to end the scoring chance. In a 2-1 loss to No. 15/13 Tennessee, OU trailed 2-0 in the seventh used a pair of singles and a two Tennessee errors to cut the lead in half and put the tying run on third and winning run on second. However, a sinking line drive was caught in right to end the game. In a 5-4 loss to RV/RV Notre Dame, the Sooners had a chance to tie or win in the bottom of the seventh as they loaded the bases with two out, but a groundout ended it. TOUGH SCHEDULE FACES SOONERS IN 2017 Sixteen opponents that reached the 2016 NCAA Softball Tournament, including WCWS participants Auburn and UCLA, highlight Oklahoma s 2017 schedule. Seven opponents are currently ranked in at least one poll, including four in the top 10: No. 2/3 (NFCA/USA) Auburn, No. 6/6 Arizona, No. 7/8 UCLA, No. 8/7 Washington, No. 15/15 Tennessee, No. 22/22 Baylor and No. 25/23 Ole Miss. Arkansas, BYU, Notre Dame, Texas and Wichita State are all receiving votes in at least one of the polls. OU CONTINUES REMARKABLE RUN IN NATIONAL POLLS After going 3-2 last week, OU slipped from No. 4 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Coaches Poll to No. 9 and dropped from No. 5 to No. 9 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. Oklahoma is the only program to be ranked every week of the NFCA poll, 325 straight polls. The Sooners were the unanimous No. 1 in each of the preseason polls. It was the first time in program history the Sooners entered the season as the top-ranked team in the country in either poll. Previously, OU s best preseason ranking was No. 2, which occurred in 2014 and 2013 for both polls and 2002 for the NFCA was just the fourth time in the NFCA poll s history, which dates back to 1995, that there had been a unanimous No. 1 in the preseason poll. Oklahoma received all 32 first-place votes to join Arizona State in 2012, Washington in 2010 and Arizona in 1998 as the only teams to do it. Oklahoma is one of four teams along with Michigan, UCLA and Washington to be ranked in every single NFCA Preseason Poll; the Sooners average preseason rank is 8.0. Overall, the Sooners rank third in NFCA history with 17 top-10 appearances in the preseason poll and are tied for third with nine top-five appearances. Only two schools have more appearances in the NFCA Preseason Top 10 than Oklahoma. This is the seventh straight season that the Sooners have started ranked in the NFCA s Top 10, which is the second longest active streak in the country behind Alabama (12). In fact, OU has been ranked in the top five in five of the past six years, which is tied with Alabama and Florida for the most over that stretch.

Oklahoma sent 14 batters to the plate and had eight hits in the first, the highest scoring inning for OU since an 11-run fifth inning at Texas Tech on March 29, The Sooners finished the game with 14 hits, including three each for Nicole Pendley, Sydney Romero and Kylie Lundberg. Pendley also matched a career high with five RBI, including her second career grand slam. In a rematch from the 2016 NCAA Regional, Oklahoma jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the second inning and outlasted Ole Miss, OU s 1-5 hitters combined to against Ole Miss and scored all 11 runs. Shay Knighten had a career high in hits, going 4-4 with a double, four runs batted in and two runs scored to lead the offense. Oklahoma rallied from an early deficit to force extras and prevailed in eight innings, 7-5, over Houston. The Sooners fell behind 3-0 after two innings but scored three runs between the fifth and sixth innings to force extra innings. OU then outscored the Cougars, 4-2, in the eighth. Paige Parker matched a career high with 8.0 innings pitched and struck out 10. After battling to extra innings in the first game of a doubleheader, Oklahoma and Houston did it again in the second half of the twinbill as OU won 2-1 in eight in game two. The Sooners played in a second straight extra-inning game for the first time since April, of 2012 against Missouri and won consecutive games that went to extra innings for the first time since March 12, 2004 against New Mexico. SOONERS SPLIT ON OPENING WEEKEND OU opened the 2017 season by playing outside the United States for the first time in program history, going 2-2 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In the season opener, Oklahoma s rally fell just short in a 3-2 loss to No. 2 Auburn. The game was the first ever season opener between two teams that played for the national title the year prior. Freshman Vanessa Taukeiaho hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to trim Auburn s lead to one, but OU would get no closer. In her OU debut, Paige Lowary struck out a career-high 11 batters but walked five in taking the loss. BIG 12 STANDINGS (games through 3/1) A five-run third inning was the catalyst for Oklahoma in its 7-1 victory over BYU. Junior Nicole Pendley and sophomore Fale Aviu each drove in a pair of runs for OU, while sophomore Caleigh Clifton reached base in all four trips to the plate. Junior Paige Parker gave up just one run on six hits while striking out eight and walking none. A five-run second inning aided a group effort as three different OU pitchers combined on a 6-0 shutout of Nebraska. Freshman Mariah Lopez debuted with 3.0 scoreless innings before Lowary came on to earn the win with 2.1 innings in relief. Parker closed out the game with 1.2 hitless frames. Sophomores Shay Knighten and Sydney Romero each had two RBI in the contest. Oklahoma was then shut out for the first time since the opening game of the 2016 season in a 1-0 loss to No. 13/13 Washington. Macey Hatfield had two of Oklahoma s five hits. I strive every day to be better than the last, and every day I spend at OU I see improvements in myself and the people around me. Coach Gasso says: Alissa Dalton is an infielder who is very versatile. I ve seen her play third, short and second. I ve seen her do pretty much everything. She s a left-handed hitter that can hit for power and hit through gaps. She is a tough, tough out. She is that kind of hitter that can work the count and get what she wants. I think she s definitely going to make an impact as a freshman.

She ll help us on the mound if we need it, but she ll also be fighting for a starting spot somewhere on the field, whether it s in the infield or the outfield.

They are completely different, but they will complement each other very well.

The reason I chose Oklahoma is because the first time I stepped on the campus I instantly fell in love. I loved the atmosphere, and the people there are so nice. I love how family-based it is, and they made me feel right at home; I instantly knew Oklahoma was the school for me after my visit. I am looking forward to growing and becoming a better athlete, as well as young lady, considering I will be on my own since my family lives back in California. I plan on leaving my mark at Oklahoma. I m really excited to have her.
