2 The beginning of September saw the Annual General Meeting for the JADC take place in The Barn and a new committee has been elected. 3 DAISY PULLS IT OFF! by Denise Deegan Would you like to take part in a glorious play that appeals to audiences aged 8-80? It was last seen in Jersey in 1990 and it's time local audiences had a chance to enjoy it again! Sonia Hamon has offered to direct the production at the Jersey Arts Centre from 6-10 March Auditions will be held at the Clubroom on THURSDAY 19 OCTOBER at 7.30 p.m CAST: Daisy Meredith the ultimate heroine; 4th former (one solo song; can be played by anyone aged who can look about 12/13.) Sonia's last 'Daisy' was Kirsty Yates, now a professional actor, who has just finished a year's run in the West End in The Mousetrap. A challenging act to follow! Trixie Martin another 4th former; becomes Daisy's best friend; lively and full of fun. Sybil Burlington 4th former; snobbish daughter of very wealthy parents; gives Daisy a hard time, aided and abetted by Monica Smithers school toady, who trails around after Sybil, encouraging her to be nasty to Daisy. (Sybil & Monica are two lovely comic roles) Clare Beaumont Head Girl, Prefect, 6th Former, brilliant at hockey, tennis and anything else she turns her hand to. Alice Fitzpatrick Best chum of Clare; also a Prefect; should have Irish accent. Belinda Mathieson 4th former small but interesting role. Dora Johnston 4th former another small but interesting role. Winnie Irving a 2nd former needs to be played by a physically small 13/14 yr. old Three other girls, non-speaking acting roles. Names to be decided on. If you're cast as one of the schoolgirls you get the chance to wear one of those flattering (!) box-pleated gym slips. The play is set in 1925 so good clear speech and a particular acting style is called for (you will be coached in this!) 3

4 The rest of the cast: Miss Gibson the Headmistress. Adult role could be almost any age. Miss Granville 4th Form Mistress. Adult role almost any age. Mademoiselle The French Teacher, adult needs a convincing French accent. Mr. Scoblowski The enigmatic Russian, music teacher. Good accent needed. Mr. Thompson Male, about A mysterious character but all is revealed at the end of the play. Mother (usually doubled by the French Teacher) Daisy Pulls it Off is set in 1925 and is a pastiche (a kind of send-up) of girls' schools at that time. Daisy battles against all the odds, including the nastiness and plotting of Sybil and Monica, and of course (well, she is the heroine!) wins through in the end. High spots in the action are the on-stage hockey match and the cliff rescue. Sonia looks forward to seeing you at the auditions on 19 October 7.30 p.m. NOTE: Audition pieces (choice of two for the girls, one for the ladies, one for the men) will be available at Pearce Jewellers, King Street. 5 The annual Jersey Eisteddfod takes place in November and we are very pleased to have Pat Dubras, and a super cast, taking to the stage on behalf of the JADC with the comedy Last Tango in St Martin. If you aren t able to attend the competition then Club Night is a great opportunity to watch this play and have a get together with fellow Club members. Club Night will take place on Saturday 2 December and will be a night of great company, food and drink and a chance to see our JADC Eisteddfod entry. Tickets are priced at 7.50 for adults and 5 for juniors. Please be aware that the play contains strong language and some scenes of nudity so we recommend it for older teenagers and upwards only. Let s show the people of Jersey what a fantastically talented group of JADC members we have. A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY THE JADC ANNUAL DINNER Please be advised that next year s JADC Annual Dinner will be taking place on Saturday 17 March 2007 at the Hotel Ambassador. Plans are being made as we speak for a fantastic night with the assistance of our own Nick Carver on behalf of Events by Design who is producing a themed evening.
