2 FEBRUARY 2017 The SPOKANE EAGLE Page 2 From the desk of the Worthy President Dear Brothers and Sisters of Spokane Aerie #2: The By-Laws and House Rules Committee presented proposed changes in the By- Laws and House Rules for the third reading and membership vote on Jan 17 meeting. Please read the posted changes in the By-Laws and House Rules on the bulletin board adjacent to the ATM machine. These are important to the continued enjoyment of our facilities and fraternalism. A big THANK YOU to Bill Olsen, Dave Militich, and Kathy Brockman for the many hours devoted to this important task and to bring our club up to current standards of operation as expected by Grand Aerie and State/Local governances. I MUST PERSONALLY THANK the Squirrels Club for their hard work in 2016 year end for their efforts to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis Society of Spokane. The money that they raise stays here in Spokane to assist our friends, relatives, and neighbors suffering from this debilitating degenerative disease. At my installation, I did announce MS Society as my special charity. I also promised that I would match the first $500 collected for this charity. At the Jan 16 meeting of the Squirrels Club, I was invited to hear their year end report. As of Dec 31, The Squirrels collected $ As PROM- ISED, I added my $500 donation to their efforts. The Spokane Aerie #2 supports numerous charities. Get on board with those efforts. ANY ONE OF OUR MEM- BERS..ANY GROUP of members can show their support by setting up a similar MATCHING FUND OFFER. The Spokane Aerie 2 Eagles Concert Band will be playing a concert for the Rockwood on Hawthorne Assisted Living residents on Feb 4. Almost half of the Eagles Lodge Concert Band is donating time and talent for the Ferris High School PTA presentation for Ham on Regal Music Comedy Revue. The Show is March 12 to 18. If you want a GOOD LAUGH and good music, consider going to a performance. From your Madam President: I hope everyone had a nice New Years, I hear the dinner dance went really well. This month in February we will be having the Heart Ball dinner and Raffle a basket this month. To all Auxiliary Sisters please come to a Auxiliary meeting and see what we are about people helping people. We had Pot Drawings on January 3, 2017 and January 17, 2017 at our meeting and these sisters were not there and did not win. 01/3/2017 Glenda Haack $ Christa McQueen $ Frances Norton $ /17/2017 Marie Gronnebek $ Denise Melward $ Cindy Dick $ Fraternally yours; Mary Winters W.P. cont: Ask our band members to get tickets for you. This is an opportunity to get DRESSED UP in all your best ELEGANCE, enjoy a nice dinner, add a little RO- MANCE to the end of a COLD WINTER and support a most worthy cause. Heart Disease is still one of our number one killers. This is one way to help minimize that killer and to have fun doing it. I encourage all to attend. The billboards and events calendar in the front lobby will also be providing details on upcoming entertainment events. We welcome anyone and everyone to attend. These SPECIAL Auxiliary Office Hours 1st Monday & Wednesday 3rd Monday & Wednesday From noon to 4:00 p.m. Please remember that the Auxiliary Office is staffed by volunteers and we do the best we can to help our Auxiliary sisters with their needs. SQUIRRELS NEWS Eagles Aerie Worthy President, Jack Boughter, made a challenge at the start of this year that the first club within the club that made $ for MS he would match. The Squirrels have managed that and Jack has paid his $ Thank you Jack. The Squirrels would like to thank the members, guests, brothers, sisters and staff for their support. We have managed to make this money through tips from MS Bingo, sale of desserts on our bingo nights and the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesday of each month on dinner nights and on basket raffles. Please remember that all proceeds for MS stay in the Spokane area. Thank you, The Squirrels More W.P.: EVENTS are being brought to you by a dedicated group of volunteers/people that are motivated to improve OUR CLUB. 3 FEBRUARY 2017 The SPOKANE EAGLE Page 3 Special Trustee Bulletin Fellow Eagles, For several months, we have talked about need for price increases to meet higher costs of groceries, utilities and various costs of keeping the Aerie financially sound. With passage of the new minimum wage law, talking about increases has become reality. Effective February 1 st, the following increases will take place: Prime Rib - $15.75 Prime Rib with Prawns - $ $12.75 with Prawns - $15.75 Bar Snacks with current price less than $4.00 increase $0.50 Bar Snacks with current price $5.00 or higher increase $1.00 Well Drinks will increase $0.25 Call or Top Shelf drinks increase $0.50 All Beer increase $0.25 Soda Pop increase $0.25 Coffee and Tea increase $0.25 Juices increase $0.25 Even with price increases food and drink at the Aerie remains a bargain. As Trustees, we regret having to make these changes, but there is no way we can absorb increased employee costs without them. In future years, additional increases will be needed to meet additional increases in the minimum wage as well as providing paid Sick Leave to employees. Entertainment Cover Charges For many years $5.00 is the cover charge we have collected as a means of providing entertainment for members and guests. Too many nights the cover charge collected does not even cover half the amount of the entertainer s fees. Obviously, this cannot continue. While for some entertainers we will keep the $5.00 cover charge, for others an increase will take place. The current plan is to base the cover charge upon the fees charged by the entertainer. Advertising posters will state exactly what the cover charge will be for each scheduled event. Even with these increased cover charges, entertainment, like food and drink remains a bargain. We will continue to bring new and exciting entertainment at very reasonable prices. Upcoming Entertainment February will be an exciting month for entertainment. To start the month, Chris Ellenberger will be doing his usual variety act on Friday the 3 rd, and on Saturday the 4 th will be doing a special event benefiting Honor Flight as he remembers Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and Big Bopper, J.P. Richardson. Chris show about the day the music died is a can t miss event. The Heart Ball takes place on Friday, the 10 th with Stagecoach West providing the music. This event is once again worth attending. Special activities will be part of the Ball. Tickets go on sale February 1 st. On Saturday, the 11 th, Sharky and the Fins are back with us and promise to keep the dance floor full. Friday, the 17th brings Big Band back as the full 18-piece Men of Rhythm band performs in the banquet room. Tickets are $10.00 for this special event and are on sale now. Stage Riders close the weekend on Saturday with s rock and plenty of country-western to keep the dance floor full. Theresa Edwards plays Friday the 24th followed on Saturday by Nobody Famous. If you ve seen this great band play at venues like Arbor Crest Winery, you know this will be an event worth being at. Once again, tickets are $10.00 and on sale now. To get things really going, we have Seattle mentalist Brian Ledbetter scheduled on March 4 th in the banquet room. Brian performs all over the west coast and has developed a reputation as a top-notch entertainer. Tickets are $10.00 and include the opportunity to move to the Lounge for Stage Riders when Brian s show ends. Finally, we continue to offer some great opportunities on Wednesday s. with Randy Harms goes form 6-10 pm. The first Wednesday of the month the Trustees offer a great spaghetti dinner from 5-7m pm. The second Wednesday the Officers are proving a really good Lasagna, followed by Maria s Pizza Sandwich night the third Wednesday. The fourth Wednesday another great meal will be available at a decent price. Burger Night continues along with Trivia Tuesday. We really hope members and their friends will find our improved schedule of entertainment worth participating in. We as Trustees are committed to making Aerie # 2 a great place to be a member of.
