2 4X4 MINI SPIEL What s a 4X4? An afternoon of curling skill development guaranteed to improve you game while being a whole lot of fun!

2 2 4X4 MINI SPIEL What s a 4X4? An afternoon of curling skill development guaranteed to improve you game while being a whole lot of fun! Two groups of four teams (8 teams in total) play 4 games of four ends each. All four members on each team rotate through all four positions from game to game. Tankard scoring system: scores of each colour pooled (added together) across all four sheets. 6 rocks per team per end. First stone pre-placed hammer team s stone pre-placed on the centerline in the middle of the back four-foot, non-hammer team s stone pre-placed as centerline guard one broom handle length in front of the house. These games go very quickly with lots of interesting strategy Lots of repetition - so great for developing and improving skills. Cost includes pizza & pop at break (between second and third game) and Medallions for the winners (all 16 of them!). A Floating trophy is displayed at the club. Any age or skill level: great for new curlers and old hands alike! What better way to follow a vigorous 4X4 mini-spiel? All you can eat pasta with roll & salad & coffee/tea & desert! Boxes available from the bar or see SANDY Brook sbrook@xplornet.com WIN A FREE MEMBERSHIP ZEHRS REDEMPTION PROGRAM Did you know that the Club can earn hundreds of dollars just by collecting and submitting the receipts from Zehr s and the Great Canadian Superstore? The Save-A-Tape program will return money to non-profit organizations for collecting the tape register receipts. Even if you do not regularly shop at Zehr s you probably know somebody who does. Ask them to put the tapes aside for you and then collect them monthly. The tape register receipts can be deposited in the box which is near the bar at the club. In fact, start a Zehr s network. Ask your friends and neighbours (and their friends and neighbours) to save the checkout register receipts for the club. By retrieving them on a monthly basis, your network members will know that it is important to the club and they will more likely remember to set the valuable tapes aside. Remember this is an easy, year round, activity that will greatly assist the club. Start your Zehr s network today. If your name is pulled and your toonie isn t in the jar (if you are not signed up that week) you loose - and the pot is carried over to the next week. We can now walk around in the office and actually hold board meetings there without having to climb over something or someone!! We have more storage space in the office storeroom. The water heater room and compressor rooms are clean again for Dale's use. We can now see through windows and don't have to fight our way through spider webs and dust bunnies! We threw out a lot of stuff that seems to have accumulated over the years and made space for collection of new material we can throw out at next year's cleanup!!!! 7 7 CURLING CLUB CAFÉ NOTES FROM THE KITCHEN Terry Donovan is back with us again this year and has a WHOLE NEW LINE UP especially for Friday nights! Contact DOREEN Cole SENIOR CURLING What a great way for couch potatoes to get involved in activity which is healthy and enjoyable. On Tuesday mornings and now also on Thursday mornings, we will have senior curling for both members and pay-as-youplay non-members. These time slots are established for complete flexibility. There are no established teams as curlers simply show up and teams are then set up for that day s curling. This way no one is inconvenienced, nor is anyone looking for spares. This is an ideal arrangement for folks who are travelers. There are loads of bonspiels for seniors which enable you to curl in other clubs and other locales. For mixed spiels women need to be 45 to qualify. The men s spiels are established as tiers 55, 60 and 65 years of age. Prices individually range from $ 18 to $ 25 which includes 2 games of curling, lunch ranging from soup-andsandwich to buffet. Everyone goes home with a prize, generally meat and wine. Where else could you get a day s fun for such a price as this? Flyers for bonspiels can be found on the bulletin boards. Our club hosts four senior bonspiels, open to both club and outside members. Our Over-all Seniors Convener this year will be John McGregor. Bonspiel conveners responsible for individual spiels are Barry Pettapiece, Hugo Murray, Bill Strachan and Ken Wickens. Yes, you are right it will take FIVE people to replace Mr. Senior Curling, Roger, whom we thank for all his efforts through the years. Doesn t this sound like a great winter activity? Join us!
