I would like to thank all the officers who did such a great job for the last year. I am honored to have the privilege to be your Director again for the year We have some new officers this year. I am sure they are going to have some new ideas and do an awesome job. I would also like to take this time to invite all our members to join in and volunteer and get involved in your chapter. Our chapter is only as good as you make it. This year we are going to have more rides! We have some things planned which will hopefully encourage members to come on more rides. The meetings and parties are fun but when you come on an overnight ride that is where you really get to know each other. Watch the calendar on our website at birminghamhog.com. We also will send out HOG Blast by for upcoming events and rides if they are posted in time. Kevin Cerisano will also post events and rides on team snap. Please if you are not receiving this information get with me or Kevin and we will work on getting you the info. This is a new year and we all have to renew our membership. This means we have to fill out a new membership form. You can print the form from our website at birminghamhog.com on the forms tab and fill it out and bring to the meeting with your dues of $25.00 dollars. You must be a national member to join the local chapter. If you can t print one our new membership officer Jeff LeMaster will have forms at the January meeting. I would also ask that you please put your address on the form. We use these address to make up the list for the Hog Blast. We give everyone to March 1 st to renew your membership. That is when I start using the new addresses from the membership forms 2019 for the Hog Blast. I hope to see you all soon at an event or ride. Ride safe and have fun Russell Nix

3 PAGE 3 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR BY: KEVIN CERISANO HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wow has it been a year already? And what a great year it has been! Let s make 2019 even better than the last. We have our annual fund raising event coming up at World of Wheels, Feb and we will need everyone's help to surpass last year s total. We need volunteers to work a couple hours each day to shake the jugs for donations. The main purpose of the HOG group is to RIDE so I have suggested that we move our April thru October meetings to Saturday morning breakfast meetings and to have a ride after the meetings. Hopefully this will get more people on their bikes and out on the road with us. If you are new to the chapter, the best way to get to know everybody is to ride with us. Don't forget to see the Riders service department and have your mileage documented for the 365 program. The sooner you get this done, the more miles we will rack up for our chapter. I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! Get on your bikes and RIDE!

7 PAGE 7 SAFETY OFFICER BY: JIMMY FITZGERALD It s cold, wet and time for indoor activities. The trusty remote sits in its position ready to be put to work for you. Don t fall for it. Get up and move people. Besides the winter weight, winter blah s and couch potato routine, you lose muscle strength, tone and memory. Don t fall for the getting old fall back statement of its too cold outside. We live in Alabama. It does get above 60* sometimes in the winter. Bundle up and keep those skills up. Even a short ride around your neighborhood will maintain your riding skills and hinder the winter blah s. Call local friends and plan a short ride. Make memories that last a lifetime. As always, Ride Safe! BUT! Keep in mind the wind chill factor. REF: As motorcyclist, we all count on our multitasking skills whenever we ride. Probable the most important skill is signaling our intentions in traffic. Beginning with when possible, tapping your brake prior to making a stop. Start slowing in more than the needed space. And using that button prior to making a turn or changing lanes. (Refer to the picture.) Safety! Safety! Safety! Always ride with safety in mind.

10 PAGE 10 LET S RIDE! BY: GEORGE PHILLIPS RIDE AND HAVE FUN!! Welcome to 2019!!!!! Thank you for allowing me to server as your Head Road Captain for 2019 and a special thank you to the 2018 officers that volunteered their time to make our chapter great. It is because of their hard work that we are able to enjoy the benefits our chapter offers. Also, thank you to Tim Peek and Riders Harley-Davidson for sponsoring our chapter and making it one that we can be proud of, without them we would not have a HOG Chapter. HOG is all about bringing Harley owners together to share the passion we have for our bikes and riding. Our moto RIDE AND HAVE FUN pretty much sums it up. The monthly meetings bring us together to fellowship and keep us informed of the activities that our chapter is involved in. It also gives you the opportunity to provide your input. The officers need to hear from you, the members, this is your chapter and we are here to serve you. Your input is vital to helping the chapter become better and grow. Help us serve you better. At the heart of HOG are the rides, it is the rides we share together that unite us and creates the bond that we love. We meet at the meetings but it is on the rides that you get to know your fellow HOG members and truly share our passion for our Harleys and riding. It is on the rides that we create lasting memories, we tell stories, laugh, eat, and over all have a great time. It is on these rides that you come to realize that we are family and create memories that last a lifetime. Riding together is the best part of being a HOG member. To kick this year off I would like all of you to help me with a Chapter ride campaign. Borrowing from a couple of the past National HOG slogans, I would like our Campaign to be Hear the Thunder, Feel the Rumble Let Ride, there is nothing like the sound and feeling of a group of Harleys going by, you can hear the sound of the mighty v-twin coming then when they pass you can feel the rumble of the awesome power, how great it is to be part of that! Help me get our members revved up and make this the best riding year ever. If you have any ideas for a group ride please let one of your Road Captains or officers know and we will try to plan a ride or you can schedule the ride, just let me know and I will be happy to help you. You do not have to be a Road Captain

11 PAGE 11 to lead a ride but after completing 3 posted rides you will receive a Road Captain Rocker for your vest. Let s work together to make 2019 the best riding year ever. HEAR THE RUMBLE, FEEL THE THUNDER LET S RIDE Ride Safe and have Fun!! George Phillips Head Road Captain PLEASE SEE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BEING A ROAD CAPTAIN AT THE BACK OF THE NEWSLETTER. 18 PAGE 18 FROM THE EDITOR BY: MIKE NEELY Happy New Year HOG s! 2018 was a great year and I for one am looking forward to I wasn't able to ride as much as I wanted, but hopefully that will change this year. The officers are planning a lot of things so read about it and get involved. This is your chapter and it s only as good as you want it to be. Get involved! One thing I will be trying to present to the chapter are some bike rally s, which basically is a scavenger hunt on a motorcycle. They are a lot of fun and you get to ride and see some really cool places you may not have seen otherwise. Information will be coming so keep a look out. Give it a try if you can, you just may like it! Also I will be attending the HOG rally in September, in Johnson City TN. Go the HOG website for details. I will be blocking some rooms so check on Facebook if you would like to go. Ride Safe & Ride Often!!

You do not have to be a Road Captain to lead a HOG ride, any active Chapter member can lead rides, however you must do the following to make it a legitimate HOG ride: You must post the ride on the Chapter Calendar (please notify the Director or Head Road Captain for approval after it is posted so that the ride can be approved and show up on the calendar) or Facebook at least 30 minutes prior to departure. You must complete the Ride log and any waiver forms and turn them in to the Head Road Captain. You need to be familiar with all ride forms, i.e. accident form and waiver forms, and should have these with you incase needed. No alcohol consumption before or during the official ride. Once the ride reaches its destination and the official ride is over it is not a problem. All traffic laws must be followed, do not black traffic. Road Captain Status Requirements to receive the Road Captain rocker Inform the Head Road Captain that you would like to be a Road Captain and receive the following: Instructions on how to plan a ride.
