We have been working hard to come up with proposed events for By no means is what you see in this newsletter all of the events, just wanted to get the ball rolling. Please let us know if you have any events that you would like to include. If you can fit it into your busy schedules, the HOG State Rally this year is in Mt. Airy, NC. 2 Well Shut My Mouth I kicked back in my recliner watching the rain bands get farther apart and shorter, finally the sky lightened up, the rain was gone. I backed Old Pumpkin out and headed west. I could not believe it, by the time I reached Kinston, I ran into light rain, by Seven Springs it was a frog strangler. One could hardly see the traffic lights as I rode past Mount Olive. The tail lights were about the only way I could make out a vehicle in front of me. I thought to myself, all you need is to ride up on a gray car with no tail lights. No sooner had the thought run through my mind, than it happened; except it was a gray Sports Utility Vehicle. It had tail lights, they just weren t on. I had no choice but to pass or hit it. It was impossible to tell if anyone was coming. When I realized I wasn t dead, I thanked God for bringing me safely through it. He spoke clearly saying, Have you ever thanked your friends for all their praying for you? I would like to do that now. Never before have I rode that far, without riding in and out of a storm. The water was so deep it snatched my feet off the driver foot pegs once. My rain suit may just as well have been made of flannel cloth when it came to staying dry. I ve never had my Harley instruments fog up in rain. My handle bar mounted clock had three eights inch of rain behind the face lens. With my lips sealed tight as possible, rain still seeped into my mouth, I would turn my head and spit to avoid drowning. Dad used to say, that boy can t shut his mouth. He must have been right. It finally cleared up south of Fayetteville, I slackened the lens on my clock, the wind vacuumed it out. There was only a little fog mist on the middle of the lens. That worked so good, I thought loosen it a little more it will suck the fog out also. Have you ever tried to ride seventy-five miles per hour and catch an inch and a half clock in a hand with a wet glove on? I told you I live life in the fast lane, caught it, then couldn t figure out what to do with it. I now know what people mean when they say sit on it. I pulled over, put the clock back together and hit the road again. See you in the wind. Oh, I m still working on learning how to shut my mouth. 4 CHILI COOK OFF/RIDE FOR WOUNDED WARRIORS ON March 2 nd we will be hosting a Chili Cook Off and Ride. Come out and let us sample your best recipe. Last year we had 17 entries. Pleas have your entry up at the Dealership no later than 11AM for judging. If you are riding, registration will begin at 9AM, and we will be leaving at 10AM, returning by approx. 12:30PM to enjoy chili. $10 to ride and eat; $5 to eat only. Proceeds to benefit Wounded Warriors. The HOG Chapter will be providing the condiments. Winner gets bragging rights, a $50 gift card, and a trophy. You will be competing against Kevin Plunkett, winner of 2012 s Chili Cook Off ******* 2 nd ANNUAL CHILLY RIDINGG MILAGE CHALLENGE The Challenge started in January and continues until March 2 nd. If you haven t gotten involved yet, and you enjoy riding this time of year, stop by the Dealership, get your mileage recorded, and see how many miles you can get in by the 2 nd of March. There are nice prizes for the three riders with the highest mileage. ******* 2013 VALENTINS S DAY SALE HOG CHAPTER ELECTIONS It s that time of year, we re starting our 25 th year as a Chapter. Our Chapter elections will be coming up before you know it. We are only as good as our members. If you are interested, or have any thoughts of wanting to be on the Board, please stop by and visit with Jimmie Allen, and let him know. Elections will be held in May, and the new Board assumes their positions in June. I will be stepping down as Director, but have no plans on leaving this great Chapter. The Board grows with new ideas.
