1 IHYC FLOATING FRIEND- SHIPS FOR 53 YEARS Volume 53 Issue 6 June 2016 The Commodore's Comments - Commodore Captain Ken Burgio Thank you to those that stepped up to run the Mother s Day Brunch. It was great to see the members of IHYC come together and host this event again. We are hoping for great weather for the Boat Blessing. As long as I am not running the party the day should be beautiful! Let s keep our fingers crossed that the Cotter will be able to make the trip this year. Please remember to also support the pancake breakfast. Speaking of boats, with boating season officially upon us there are many good times and fun adventures that lie ahead. It s always fun when you meet up with fellows boaters, so I encourage you to share your weekend plans with the IHYC membership. Spread the word on where you plan on boating I m sure many people will appreciate the invite. You know how the saying goes, the more, the merrier! We are having a comedy show on Saturday, September 24th. There will be 3 comedians and the headliner will be Nick Siracuse. Please see the flyer for details. There is a lot of hype and buzz already stirring around the club about our comedy night, so get your tickets early before it sells out. I m sure it will be an awesome night! I know you all thought that I would be done talking about the front foyer by now, however I have something to say on this topic: Check out the front foyer when you get a chance! The light fixtures are in and they look great. A big thanks to V/C Jamie Schmitt for helping me get them installed. 2 INNER HARBOR NEWS June 2016 page 2. Vice Commodore Jamie Schmitt Wow, Mother Nature is sure playing games with us; one day it was 78 degrees and sunny and then it was 48 degrees the next day the forecast is finally starting to look a little brighter. I would like to thank Andy Vaillancourt for fixing the Rear Commodore, Dan Bright hole in the wall of the side entrance to the kitchen. Commodore Burgio and I are hoping to get a things wrapped up in the foyer this week. If there s anything you would like to tackle as far as cleaning, painting, or repairs, please let me know and I will purchase the necessary supplies for you. If you notice anything that needs attention, please let me know. Remember, this is all of our Club and our responsibility for the maintenance. Cheers to a great June! The Vice, Jamie Schmitt NEWS FROM THE REAR Commodore Daniel Bright Hello from the Rear or the back of the ship if you like. As spring has awaken so to has our boatyard with the many sounds of buffers and polishers alike. With boats going in the water and to their slips much yard work needed to be done before the 2016 Flag Raising Ceremony. I would like to thank all those who helped make this years clean-up a success. Once all the boats are in the water two projects will be set into motion - the paved driveway will be re-sealed/re-striped and the boat lift facelift project will be scheduled - please look for the announcement in the coming month. During the April meeting two applications for membership were voted on. Mr. Daniel Bundy and Mr. John Knipler have become our newest members. Please welcome both Dan and John to IHYC. If you know of a potential applicant please see me for an application and always look to the bulletin board for the latest membership news. CANALFEST, CANALFEST and CANALFEST - the sign-up boards for both kitchen and booth assistance are waiting for YOU in the club. Lets try to fill all the spaces prior to the event this year. I will also be asking for help setting up the tent and teardown the Monday following Canalfest - please see flyer in club. If you are in need of an additional 2016 IHYC roster they are available for $2:00/each - please contact me and I will make sure you receive a copy. Rear Commodore, Dan Bright

6 INNER HARBOR NEWS June 2016 PAGE 6 Fish Fry Eric Mowry It was good to see some familiar faces at the May fish fry. We did pretty well and served 127 satisfied customers! May was the last month that we served soup, so you ll have to wait until the fall for its return. It seemed to be successful overall. Due to some changes in the club membership, I have a bunch of new positions that need to be filled on a couple of the teams. Teams 1 & 3 need the dishwasher positions filled and we are still looking for a middle fryer on Team 2. Again, to those who are not on a team to please consider joining. It s actually a good time and the teams all seem to have fun. The time you donate to help out the club works out to about 12 hours a year. Team 3 will need someone to fill in as a fryer in July due to vacations. Please help out the club! Team 2 is up June 3rd so stop in and support your club and we look forward to seeing you then. 7 INNER HARBOR NEWS June 2016 What s in a Boat Name? BoatUS Releases 2016 s Top Ten Boat Names PAGE 7 Mother s Day Brunch Chefs ALEXANDRIA. Va., May 18, A boat name can reveal much about the personality of a boat owner. Are they into fishing? Reel Therapy on the boat s transom certainly shows it. Do they have kids in school? What College Fund? says it best. Like to sing? In Harmony is a popular choice. Work in the finance industry?. Liquid Assets is suitable. Regardless of lifestyles, families or careers, choosing a name can be difficult. To help boaters with this task, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) offers a list of over 9,000 boat names given by boaters across the country over the last 20 years, and today officially releases it s 2016 list of Top Ten Boat Names. They are: 1. Happy Ours 2. Freedom 3. Grace 4. Serendipity 5. Island Time 6. No Regrets 7. Liberty 8. At Last 9. Blue Moon 10. Aqua holic Happy Ours may be the most popular boat on a Friday night at the marina, said BoatUS Boat Graphics Manager Greg Edge. Names like Freedom and Liberty show boaters patriotic side, but they also like their boat names to remind themselves to slow down and relax, such as the ever-popular Island Time.
