The Hawk s News S p e c i a l P o i n t s o f I n t e r e s t V o l u m e 4, I s s u e 3 N o v e m b e r, Sports Almost, Maine Guidance Hawk s Nest This fall marks drama club director Eric Ream as Pete bly be their last show at Hebron Thanksgiving Covergirl? Jared Grigsby s fifth show at Hebron High School. This highly anticipated show, called Almost Maine, is a romantic comedy set in the fictional town of Almost, Maine. The play s theme is relationships and how people deal with them. There are a total of seventeen roles in this play, and a number of students working behind the scenes to make this production possible. The cast list is as follows: Betty Wan as Ginette Ryan Gilman as East & Randy Gabby Dapkus as Glory Paul Bontempo as Jimmy Haley Miller as Sandrine McKenna Smith as Waitress Dallas Hall as Steve Elizabeth Medrano as Marvalyn Dustin Drake as Lendall Marissa Clark as Gayle Josh Lohiser as Randy High School. I don t want to, said senior Ryan Gilman when asked to think about how he felt about this being his last year in drama club. The cast also includes Betty Wan, a foreign exchange student from Hong Kong, China. The cast has been very hard at work with this play, memorizing many lines and getting their characterization down. This play will be a big success as all the actors in this play are Melanie Smith as Marci very dedicated to their parts. This is a play you won t want to miss. There might even be a few flurries in the Hebron High School auditorium! Come and join the fun! 2 P a g e 2 Boys Hawks Basketball T he boys played an intermural scrimmage on Thursday, November 21, Donations were taken for tornado victims and will be distributed to the victims in Kokomo and Lebanon. The Hebron Boys first official game is at Covenant Christian on Tuesday, November 25, 2013 at 5:30. The next game up is at Kouts on Black Friday, November 29. If your child needs a ride, a fan bus will be offered for any student that would like to ride along and join the cheerleaders to root their team on. There is a sign-up sheet by the front office and one by the athletic office. We are looking to load the bus and show our Hebron spirit, so come on and join the fun!! Let's go Hebron!! Thanksgiving Break is November 28 and 29, Have a safe and restful break with your friends and family. Girls Basketball The girls basketball team had their first scrimmage game on November 7, Sadly, they lost that scrimmage game, but they won against Wheeler Saturday, November 16 and then lost a close battle against Lowell. Guidance Seniors, applications for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program are now available in the Guidance Office. This scholarship provides for full tuition and required fees plus $900 per year for books to any public or private college or university in the State of Indiana. 3 V o l u m e 4, I s s u e 3 P a g e 3 Thespians Trick or Treat So Tots Can Eat! On October 30, the Hebron International Thespian Society (ITS) went out for donations for Halloween. They went trick or treating for nonperishable goods which they donated to the Hebron Food Pantry. "It was a Hebron HS Art Club Students recently participated in the Recycled Latex Paint School Art Contest sponsored by the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County. They were given a panel (2'x7') and an assortment of recycled latex paint, and only using the paints that we were given, were told to create a mural with a recycling theme. They chose plastic water bottles as their theme and included an image of the water bottle, the recycling symbol over an image of the Earth and then included Gabby with some of the food. really rewarding experience," said senior Haley Miller. They went through Park Place and all around town and collected at least 1000 canned goods. The team consisted of seniors Josh Lohiser, Ryan Gilman, Dominick Mlechick, Maggie Lindeman, Elizabeth Medrano, Haley Miller, Krystal Maish, and Marissa Clark; Junior Kasie Sass; and Sophomores Jourden Bixenman, McKenna Smith, Catlin Ocampo, Wan Vote for Hebron HS Art Club! the following statistic: "Americans consume over 29 billion bottles of water per year. Only 13% are recycled." Schools from Porter County who participated in the project will have their work displayed at the Porter County Government Administration Building from November 11 - December 13. This coincides with America Recycles Day, Nov 15th and calls attention to the availability of recycled latex paint to people who live in Porter County. Online voting will take LuYuan, Gabby Dapkus, Melanie Smith and Jessica Lukasik. The group is lead by English and Publications teacher, Jared Grigsby. For this event, called Tots Eat, Sophomore Gabby Dapkus was voted the chairperson, contributing her organizational skills making the event an overall success. They got together for a Halloween party on October 25, 2013 and used their artistic abilities to carve some pumpkins and eat some snacks while socialize with fellow members. It looks like they had a lot of fun and were able to display some very creative looking works of art. Lexie with her ghostly masterpiece. Great job!
