1 The Vair Fax From the Editor October is here and the means cooler weather (maybe), trick-ortreaters, and Vairs at the Fair. We look forward to enjoying two great days with Corvair friends and an a f t e r n o o n o f s o m e o f t h e unhealthiest food known to man - fair food. It s a good thing it only happens once a year. If you haven t already volunteered for food or drink, call Lillian and see if she needs you to bring something. We also need door prizes. Finally, try to make it up to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta on October 22 or 23. In addition to my Cor vair, there will be many interesting and unique cars to see. If you have anything to submit for the newsletter, please it to 66corsa@cox.net, or mail it to: The Vair Fax c/o David Clamp 212 Old Bridge Road Warner Robins, GA Officers for 2011: President:! 3 SEPTEMBER MINUTES - DAVID CLAMP President Chuck welcomed everyone to the regular monthly meeting. Present were Chuck Smith, Shirley Smith, Keith and Sharon Burkingstock and friend Marti Fuchs, Joe and Rhonda Gail Gleaton, Bill Trigg, James and Lillian Law, Steve Weigandt, Clay and Betty Collier, Clay s son Grant Collier and wife Corrie, Tim Vossler, and David Clamp. Grant and Corrie are expecting a little one, so we also counted Bud (name to be decided later) as attending. There were 3 Corvairs driven; James Law s 1963 Rampside, and Joe Gleaton s 1964 Monza convertible, and David Clamp s 1965 Corsa convertible. Lillian confirmed with the Fair officials that we will be leading the parade again this year, and learned why we are allowed in the fairgrounds: the dignitaries that ride with us like not having to walk the long distance from the gate. We may also be escorting the Peach Queens in the parade. Details are still being worked out and we need to make sure we have enough convertibles in the parade. It is important to get your registrations in to Lillian. This year seems to be off from past years, so if you know you are going, go ahead and let Lillian know. We also discussed the menu for Vairs at the Fair. Heidi Clamp will make her awesome chicken salad (no bias here). We ll have our usual BBQ, asian slaw, meatballs, coldcuts and cheese, fruit bowl, sausage balls, Brunswick stew, Corvair beans, and a Chick-Fil-A nugget tray. Bill Trigg is making a top secret Salami tray. Some of us in the club have recently had original license plates restored. Tommy Gilbert, the gentleman who restores them, will give us a history lesson on the plates in Georgia at the banquet. I m also sure he d be willing to restore a plate you already own or sell one he has already completed. It looks like Vairs at the Fair is shaping up, so you definitely don t want to miss it. While it is just now September, it is time to think about the club Christmas party. A unanimous vote places this year s party at James and Lillian Law s nice home in Leesburg, GA. Lillian wants to cook for us, but check with her to see if she needs anything. We plan on having the party on December 3, which is a week earlier than our normal meeting time. Officers for 2012 are selected at the party, so feel free to step up and take on one of the positions. Many of you know that our club has sent several care packages to our troops overseas. If you have anything to donate, we d be happy to send it. Some things that they like receiving are books and musical instruments. Money yo help cover shipping costs is also appreciated. While at Springfest his year, several of us noticed how nice the Corvair Atlanta and Queen City Corvair Club banners were. Ours hasn t been updated in years, so we are getting a new one designed and will have two printed. If everything works out, it might be on display for the fair. Flight Club Invitation: Joe Gleaton has invited everyone out for a picnic his flight club is having on September 24, Show up around 10:30 in the morning and eat around 11:30. There will be hotdogs and hamburgers there. They will be at the air park off of Highway 96, across from Houston County High School. Update on Tom Mays From Clay Grant: First of all, Tom and Nancy want to thank everyone for the cards and prayers they have received. Tom is improving slowly but steadily. He has gone from being bed ridden, to walking with a walker and now is insisting he walks without a walker ad little assistance. We were able to get him out of the house for a few hours Monday evening. He is hoping to make it to Vairs at the Fair next month to visit with everyone. PAGE 3
