1 Housing Partners of Western Nebraska August 2015 From the Desk of Nancy Bentley, Executive Director Saturday, August 1st, is the Scotts Bluff County Fair Parade anyone living in our Colson, Morrill and Bluff View Manor elderly/disabled families may ride the bus to the parade and enjoy the free lunch served in downtown Mitchell. The parade starts at 10:30 AM with Our notable riders being resident George from Minatare and Clint from Gering Valley. If any of the ladies would also like to ride, we can put a bench on and squeeze a couple more on the float.just let me know by Friday, July 31st if you want to ride! Join us for the National Night Out August 4th from 6 8 PM in downtown Scotts Bluff for lots of fun and games and free giveaways! Housing Partners own staff, Rita, Yesenia, and Gabe will be hosting a booth with some shooting opportunities as well as face painting!!! Please stop in and see us! You ll note the big bus will be parked behind us! The bus will stop at Rebecca Winters at 5:30 PM across from Apartment #150 and 5:45 PM at the community room at 89A Woodley Park Road to pickup children and their parents. Parents must accompany the children on the bus.no child can ride without his/her parents. Call to reserve your spot no later than Monday August 3rd by noon to August 14th, staff are planning a BBQ at Colson Manor in Minatare to kick off the Minatare Days events. The event is open to the community and all of our residents are invited to attend this free event. The bus will be traveling to Minatare, so please call in your reservation to ride the bus for the Minatare Colson Manor Free BBQ by August 11th to Remember, summertime is funtime for families and children. Please note that playgrounds are for our children and need to have an adult outside watching their children at all times! KEEP THEM OUT OF THE STREET and SAFE!!! We are still waiting for the release of our Capitol Funds and looking forward to serving your needs in equipment and remodeling apartments. Have a Great rest of the summer!!!! Nancy

2 Back to School!! TIPS FOR WALKERS Pay special attention to all traffic signals and crossing guards. Never cross the street against a red light, even if you don't see any traffic. Wear reflective clothing and bright colors so drivers can see you easier. Plan a safe walking route to school or the bus stop. Choose the most direct way with the fewest street crossings and if possible, with intersections that have traffic controls. Advise children to arrive early for buses, stay out of the street, and to wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the street. TIPS FOR DRIVERS Be watchful around schools and bus stops for children running into the street. Watch for children entering the street from behind buses or running to catch the bus. When driving your children to school, deliver and pick them up as close to the school as possible. Don't leave until they are safely on school grounds. Drive slowly when approaching children riding bicycles and walking near the street. Watch your speed when entering school zones. TIPS FOR EVERYONE Ease children back into a school year routine gradually. During the last two weeks of summer, re-introduce a school year bedtime. Begin waking late sleepers earlier and earlier, closer to the hour they'll need to rise when school begins. Nothing calms school year chaos like Calendar Central: a centralized site for all family calendars and schedules. You'll need a family event calendar to track after-school activities, school programs and volunteer work. School entry may require documentation from immunization records to report cards from the previous school year. Athletes need proof of medical examination. A little preparation can prevent frantic last-minute searches for a birth certificate or registration confirmation. Each evening, think ahead to the following morning; where can you lighten the load? Set the breakfast table as you clear the dinner dishes, and make sure breakfast foods are easy to reach. Lay out children's clothing the night before. Scan backpacks or launch pad spaces for missing homework, projects or library books. Make sure musical instruments or sports bags are packed and ready to go. 4 The Housing Partners of Western Nebraska took 2nd place in the Oregon Trail Days Parade. We were very excited about our placement! Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard to get this awesome float finished, and to all the staff and residents who rode with us on the float and our newly wrapped bus!
