2 2 Dear PMYC Members and Friends, I am sorry to inform you that we lost a very good Member and friend, Friday, 26 August. Shimon Bitton passed away from medical complications at Cedars Hospital. Shimon was a wonderful, giving man, and an outstanding sailor. There will be family services and PMYC will hold a celebration of his life in the near future. On behalf of all of us, we will miss you, Shimon thank you for being a part of our life. Mike Blumenthal Commodore PMYC

3 3 Hello Everyone, This has been a terrific year for cruises. This past month s Luau Cruise was incredible as well. We had over 55 people participate this year from PMYC, SMWYC and friends from other local yacht clubs. The weather was a bit slow in coming but it finally showed us favor. The facilities at Ballast Point were wonderful, offering clean restrooms, kitchen refrigeration, cooking grills, seating and bar area. We were very happy with this arrangement and made quite a time of it. Lots of pictures are available on the club computer in the back room. Please stop by and take a look. We had Hula lessons provided by Roxann Mehle. All the unexpected dancers were out there to include but weren t limited to Staff Commodore Irv Osser. The contest was won by a friend of PMYC Michelle Wessel. Hawaiian Drink Contest was judged by Ted Woolery, Alan Gornick and Irv Osser, and won by SMWYC Friends. The Limbo competition was won by Roxann Mehle & Gary Simpson. The Piñata that was filled with little bottles of fun was knocked to the ground by Darlene Koch. Saturday dinner was selected by Candy Brown and was a terrific success as Mike Elia assisted BBQ ing the steaks. Thank you Candy and Mike E. PMYC has one more cruise on the books this year. The Hors d Oeuvres Cruise will be hosted at the Corsair Yacht Club site in Emerald Bay. To our newer members, you should note that this location has a beach landing. We look forward to all of you being there and seeing the exciting dishes our creative members share in the contest. On a personal note, I would like to thank all the members that help on these cruises. They are a lot of work and the assistance provided made these events successful. I have enjoyed being part of the Bridge and participating with others in this year. Let s keep the participation and momentum going into next years events. Glen Solomon Fleet Captain

They cook the meal in our professional galley or bring in a meal created by a local restaurant. Prices run from $7 to $12 per person depending on the fare served. Sign up sheet is on the galley door. Goal: To publish The Log on or as soon after the 1st of each month Deadline: 5 days before end of the month Guidelines: 1. (See deadline) 2. Pictures must be accompanied by description or written article. 3. CDs left in glass box will be ignored, unless you make prior arrangements with the editor. 4. Pictures left on disc in Internet Work Station will be ignored. 5. Submit articles inside or in WORD format. Submit to: logeditor@pmyc.org TO ALL PMYC MEMBERS: If you have old VHS tapes, or DVDs that you no longer watch and wish to donate to the Club, please feel free to bring them in and place them in the lending library. 17 17 CLUB NEWS In the Santa Barbara/Kings Harbor race on July 29 & 30, Port Captain Alan Rock crewed on The Green Dragon II skippered by Gary Green. The Beneteau took 2nd in its class. Congrats Alan, well done on placing second in the SB/KH Race!, Your 1st Mate Melissa" I had the honor of being asked by my sunset race Skipper Gary Green, to crew on his 44' Beneteau, Green Dragon II, for the Newport to Ensenada Race. My position was gofer, winch turner and ballast. The race started with an outrageous party at the Balboa yacht club. This party is open to the public and I highly recommend everyone attending next year as the scenery is not to be missed. All sorts of wanna-be arm trophies circling about looking to hook a Captain. During the night shift while everyone is trying to get as much sleep as possible we are awaken by a loud thud. Ignoring it and thinking it was a wave, we all went back to sleep. Then there was another loud thud. Ok, not two rouge waves. So we got up to see what was happening and all of a sudden there is a 2 ton Sea Lion on the transom. He had boarded the boat and slimed the deck. We beat it with a winch handle several times before it went back in the water. We now had a pissed off sea lion nudging the bottom of the boat for several minutes, but he eventually got over it and went on his way. We arrived in Ensenada to yet another party sponsored by Mount Gay Rum. The race hats from Mount Gay Rum were so valuable that a fella in the crowd dove at me to catch a hat coming my way and spilled my beer! I almost had him arrested for alcohol abuse! We took 4th place. It was a race I won't forget and look forward to doing it again next year. Port Captain Rock.
