4 Glen Solomon - Commodore Hello Everyone, Opening Day: All I can say is thank you to all of you. I heard over and over that this was the best Opening Day in years. We have only the hard work of our membership to thank for this. Cleaning, organizing, preparing the eats and drinks, and then helping all the guests get settled in for the event is no easy task. Thank you All for helping us get the Season underway. Kent Andersson, Rhonda and Peter Breum, Helene Smith, Tina Michel, Gary Panas and Deborah Pitt, John and Brenda Grote, Carol Butte, John Meyers, the Bridge and Directors, the Chair Team, and all those that helped to make it happen Thank you all. PMYC participated in the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club Paddle Board Poker Run on March 22...perfect weather. We had 15 entries all wearing the bright blue shirts created and donated by Eric Dugdale on the water. We stood out very nicely. PMYC was a stop in the Poker Run and we were serving up high octane Buffalo Milks. OOOHH. Go Gary and Deb. Lots of people at the House helped with food and drinks. Kent Andersson, Gordon Molko and Michael Murbarger with Luigi ran the chase boats. Curt and Roxann, Maggie and Rob, and Patricia and partner (sorry) teamed up in a double kayak, Dr. Darlena Monet, Eric Dugdale, Karen Ellis, Pearl Andreas, Mark Chapin paddled in a single, Mike Elia and Chloe were paddling around with us, but I don t remember in what. I was on an SUP trying to keep up. We did well in the prize department, but I think being out there, teamed up as PMYC was the real prize. Thanks to everyone that participated on the water and at the Club. I want to recognize a member each month that extends themselves for the benefit of the Club and the membership s enjoyment of the club. For April, I would like to recognize and thank Mr. Gary Panas. Gary does a lot of behind the scenes stuff. His most recent accomplishments are the new guest name badges. We ran out last month and without a source, Gary redesigned the badge with some color, got them ordered and delivered. We also have Gary to thank for the design and printing of the posters for Opening Day. Gary often volunteers for OD duty when there is a Club event. He is one of our best assets at the door during parties, ensuring everyone is greeted with a smile. And what I hear from his wife Deborah, he is her biggest supporter. She comes up with ideas and he makes it happen. So, thank you Gary for your energy, creativeness and support you give the club..
5 Your help is necessary in keeping the club looking nice. When you re done with your eats and drinks, clean up your waste and any dishes used. If you dropped things on the floor, please pick up after yourself. This small housekeeping effort on your part lets everyone continue to enjoy a beautiful club. If you have an idea for an activity, let s discuss it. Not many are turned away. Some are fun for all, some for a few, but we need to keep searching for and experimenting with ideas to find events that will keep our club interesting for YOU. So, speak up you quiet ones with the creative minds. We want to hear from you. That s all for now. And not to be an April Fool. Glen Solomon Commodore 2015
6 Kent Andersson - Vice Commodore It s time to get ready for the boating season! As Vice Commodore and in charge of Opening Day, I say Thank You to everyone who put our special day together. You know who you are. It was a good one. It s time to make sure your boat is in good running condition. Check your main, filters, pumps, generator, outboard, dinghy, safety equipment and everything else onboard so no surprise hits you to make your trip go bad. Before you know it the Cinco de Mayo cruise will be here. Always a fun ride. PMYC Classic Golf is back on the calendar this year. Still looking for a date in May and it will be at the Harrison Ford Landing Strip (Penmar in Venice.) More info later. We have started to sell spaces for the swap meet which is coming up on June 6. As you may recall, we had 50 vendors and Sold Out last year. It s really a super day at your Yacht Club. I m most likely the biggest dog lover of us all, but PLEASE respect the Club rules. No dogs inside, especially not on any chairs and COME ON...not on your lap around the food tables. Shape up or.. Just Say n. Don t ask what the club can do for you. Ask what you can do for the club. Kent Andersson, Vice Commodore
7 Curt Bersche - Rear Commodore Ahoy the Club! Thank you to everyone who helped out to make our 2015 Opening Day one of the best. Your efforts are very much appreciated and do not go unnoticed. We had a great turn out from yacht clubs throughout Southern California and, as always, a great time was had by all. We had an impressive turn out with 15 PMYC members participating in the Santa Monica Windjammers paddle poker run. Everyone had a great time paddling around to participating yacht clubs where we picked up a playing card. In the end, the best hand won. While we didn t win first prize, PMYC did win 3 out of the 5 prizes that were awarded. A special shout out goes to Eric Dugdale who pretty much paddled the entire 5 mile course laying down due to a seat malfunction. Also, thanks to Eric who had t-shirts made for the event. A fantastic PMYC showing. Make sure you don t miss Marina del Rey s 50 th birthday bash and boat show April at Burton Chase Park. Three Dog Night kicks it off Friday evening with fireworks. Saturday and Sunday s events include a boat parade, pirates and mock battles aboard multiple tall ships, harbor tours, classic car show, boat show, live mermaid presentation and much, much more. Your very own PMYC membership committee will also have a booth at the park so please be sure to drop by and say hi! We have a lot of openings for Friday Night Dinners, so please sign up or contact me at curtbersche@yahoo.com. Well, that is all for now. Thank you and we will see you at the Club or on the water! Curt Bersche Rear Commodore Membership Chairman

9 Sam Edwards - Port Captain Hello again, Spring is here and if you were here for Opening Day you will know the club is open for the 2015 sailing season. The fact that it never closed will be overlooked. Opening day was a success thanks to the hard work of many people. The food was excellent. Cannons were booming. The brass was polished. The plants in the garden were pampered by Mary and Janet. And every surface was scrubbed or painted. The whole place was one to be proud of. Since then, Sabots have been launched and the Mini 12 cleaned and cleared for fun. PMYC was represented on the water in the Paddle Boat Poker event organized by Santa Monica Windjammers. They were easy to spot because they were wearing t-shirts with PMYC printed in bold letters. Thank you Eric Dugdale. Just a reminder, the club does have two very good BBQ grills. Come up, over or down and use them. Don t be shy. Just leave the equipment cleaner than it was when you started. The club has also installed 10 Sabot racks. Most have been taken as they were installed at the request of boat owners. These owners have been enjoying a grace period of free storage. It was made clear that we would eventually get around to a $10/month fee per boat. This will begin at the April billing cycle and be attached to the Quarterly dues. Only those with Sabots on racks or in club water will be affected. We will also be adding one rack to hold two kayaks in the near future. The club is also discussing the feasibility of installing Paddleboard racks. The OD signup is working better than some had expected. I remind the membership to choose their own OD date. This ensures a high participation rate. Come by the club and see what dates are left. Sign up early, sign up often. If you cannot come by the club and have specific dates you are interested in, please contact me at pmyc.samedwards@gmail.com. Let s get this season off to a good start. Have fun and be safe. Port Captain Sam Edwards
