2 Kent Andersson - Commodore AUGUST WAS A FUN FILLED MONTH! Our Luau party at the Isthmus turned out to be a great cruise. Perfect weather and one of the largest turnouts. Special thanks to our Fleet Captain Michael Murbarger for all his hard work. We hosted WOW/WOH sailboat race and Shoreline and Seal Beach Yacht Clubs Labor Day party. Full house as usual PMYC style thanks to Deborah Pitt and crew. Special thanks to Rear Commodore Keith Mott for organizing the race after party both days and donating a 50 TV for the back room. During September and October, we will refurnish the wood floor and replace carpet in the front room. We will also start to upgrade the galley with new refrigerators, for example, and change out the ceiling lightbulbs to LED. The club will be closed during the time the work is being done in the front room. Look for an notice in regards to work days. September is Commodore Appreciation / Hors d oeuvre Cruise to Emerald Bay. We added a fishing tournament Saturday morning (5am-2pm). Fish off your dinghy, sail or power boat or from shore. The heaviest fish wins all. We also added a snorkeling expedition and other fun stuff. We will have a Dinghy UBER available. 3pm Friday we will have Happy Hour on Aussie D. It s only a dinghy ride away. This year we will serve dinner Friday and Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning (all for $20) during clean up. We need to leave the Corsair Yacht Club facility the same way we found it or even cleaner. Everyone needs to help out. Sign up early with your pre-pay so we know how much food and how many drinks to bring. It s time again for the nominating committee to start looking for members who are interested in helping out and being on the Board for You will hear from them soon.
3 At the last Meeting, the Board added PMYC ANIMAL POLICY to the standing rules. Please read and respect the rules. PACIFIC MARINERS YACHT CLUB ANIMAL POLICY 1. Don t ask what the club can do for you. Ask what you can do for the club. Kent Andersson, Commodore Aussie D coming back from the last cruise
4 Curt Bersche - Vice Commodore Another very busy summer month at PMYC! We kicked off the month with Roxann s 50 th birthday party. Thank you to all who attended including Roxann s parents and friends from Chicago. I don t think I have ever seen anyone receive as many bottles of wine as Roxann did. I think she is all set for the next year or so! The weekend of the 12 th was the Luau Cruise to Two Harbors where fun was had by all. Thanks to Michael Luigi Murburger for putting on a fantastic cruise with, most likely, a record setting number of boats and members at the island. Thanks also go out to Peter Breum and Michael Elia for taking us on the hike of a life time. Next time I will be sure to wear proper footwear. Roxann also did her hula lesson which is always a fun time. Luigi, please do not enter the contest again. Thanks in advance. Princess Linguini (a.k.a. Luigi Last weekend PMYC hosted the Woman on the Water/Women at the Helm after-race parties and awards ceremonies where we had a really great turn out. This year we hosted both Saturday and Sunday parties which was a lot of work. Thanks to Keith Mott for organizing and our Commodore Kent Andersson for manning the Galley. Please don t forget: Whether it is noon or midnight, please make sure to close everything up if you are the last person to leave the club. A quick summary of the closing process follows this page. Thanks for your help! See you at the Club or on the water! Curt Bersche Vice Commodore 2016

6 Keith Mott - Rear Commodore Greetings All: Hope everyone has been staying cool. ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS: Friday night dinner is calling you. We are a volunteer club and your participation is required. Sign up list is on the board. If you have any questions, get with your sponsor or contact me. MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: The most wonderful time of the year! This year, the ladies who prepared all those delicious meals, are looking for more members to host Monday Night football dinners. A schedule and dates will be posted. RACES: A race committee meeting is coming up for the Heather Perkoff and Chuck Stein races. Club volunteers are needed. PMYC is the club you chose to be a part of. Make it a club that your Mom and Dad would be proud of. Clean up after yourself, be respectful of others, participate, pay your dues and have fun. Keith Mott Rear Commodore
7 Michael Murbarger - Fleet Captain Wow! August was a busy month filled with many great events. We had everything from the Luau Cruise to hosting races and after parties. I can t even remember everything we did. Thank you to everyone that pitched in to make it all possible. A special thanks to our Rear Commodore, Keith Mott for handling all the Race Committee details. It s been a challenging year for him to keep it all together. Our presence in the race community has diminished over the last few years as members have backed away from sailboats and racing for a variety of reasons. As such, the Club s emphasis on membership this year has been to bring in younger family members that own sailboats. We need, and want, young families who want to be active on the water and especially want to get involved in sailing and racing. Keith has aggressively stepped up to the challenge with ASMBYC, PSSA and the other local yacht clubs to make our presence known once again. Let s all support his efforts by working to increase our membership in this area. The Luau Cruise was a blast! If you missed it, you really missed it! We had over 80 members and guests who arrived on over 30 boats. We had everything from 60 power boats to 27 sailboats. Old and new members, young and not so young We all had a great time. We had a special treat this year hosted by Roxann s Hula Adventures. We started off with a hula lesson. That was followed up by a group dance. And of course, a Hula Competition. Never to miss out on an opportunity to be in the spot light, or in this case, under the moon light, (too bad it was so darn bright), Princess Papuli popped in with her friend Princess Linguini to join the competitors. Unfortunately, they were smoked by our very own Bob Gray, who took the honors! Never to be the poor sports, Princess Papuli and Princess Linguini were there to congratulate him. A night I m certain Bob will never forget. (Neither will the rest of us!)
8 The evening finished out with a Surprise Guest, one of our newest members Christine Doll who enchanted us with her most spectacular fire dance! It was awesome! Thank you Christine! Clear your schedules for our favorite cruise of all. The Hors d oeuvre Cruise is up next starting September 23 rd, 24 th, and 25 th at Corsair Yacht Club in Emerald Bay. This year the Hors d oeuvre Cruise has many fun (and challenging) events designed to satisfy the young, the old, the athletic, and the rest of you old lazy fuddy duddies like me, who just want to hang out on the boat or beach and watch everyone else have a great time. In addition to the usual Hors d oeuvre Contest, we are having a Fishing Tournament, Poker Run, Snorkeling Expedition, Dinghy Race, and my personal favorite, Who Can Get The Most Bags Of Trash In Their Dinghy, in one trip, Sunday morning after we all have breakfast and clean the place up better than we find it. There will be CASH Prizes, Trophies, and Other Winnings to be announced. The Fishing Tournament will have a paid entry fee. The winner will collect the donations made by the other participants. Get your fishing gear out, cleaned up and ready to fish! There s going to be stiff competition. Look for the signup sheet on the Cruise Board posted at the Club. The Commodore has graciously offered to buy some club snorkeling gear for this event out of his Commodores Budget. Let s make him spend the money. Make sure to sign up so we have time to get it all together. (If you can t find something here to get you going, my uncle works for Forest Lawn and has offered to get you a discount!) We need everybody to help out with this cruise. Our food, drink, gear, charcoal, and firewood all needs to get there and back. Well, the gear and trash needs to come back anyway Everyone needs to pitch in for this one. Also, we need you all to bring a bundle of firewood for the evening fires. Get the rest of the details from the boards that are posted at the club. We have been granted permission for anyone needing it, to land on the Boy Scout dock. We cannot stay tied up there. Consequently, we also need some of you younger more macho types with dinghies to help out by bringing the boats over to the beach and tying them off. Please contact me to help out with this. Or I will be calling on you anyway! Thank you in advance from those that need a little extra help.
9 Tony Milazzo - Port Captain Thanks everyone for doing your OD duties so well. Another busy month on the docks! We had several guests staying with us. Our guest Tango is leaving to complete their journey. All is good in port. My crew and I had a great time in Catalina for the Luau cruise. Appeared everyone had an awesome time & lots of fun and adventure! Thanks to Michael Murbarger, officers & members for a big turnout. My boat s first trip over & everything went according to plan. I was volunteered for Race Committee boat for the Wooden Hull regatta and had a great time. It was the same day and weekend as the WOW regatta & everyone enjoyed the PMYC hosting party. Looking forward to the Emerald Bay Cruise this month & our Labor Day celebrations at the club. Contact me or your sponsors for help if it s your first or second time & need some help or guidance. Bella Vita Tony Milazzo PMYC Port Captain
10 Cakewalk Hike On The Luau Cruise Mike Blumenthal First off, I want to thank Sandy and Gary for letting me tag along on Casablanca for the Cruise. I haven t been on one in a few years. Danka. Luigi fun cruise! Okay, on with the story. Friday at the BBQ, Peter Breum suggested we go for a hike Saturday morning to earn our first beer. Some of us foolishly agreed. Several of us met by the beach bar, discussing which way we should go. If Michael Elia ever says take the Hammock Hike. It s relatively easy and has the best pay-off view of the Isthmus. Note get a second and third opinion from Splash 1 and Splash 2. Most everyone took off before 9:00. I had to wait for the store to open to get a bottle of water. Good thing. I m glad no one saw me climb the first hill. It is the 45 degree mountain to the left of the Isthmus. Loose rock and shale. Piece of Cake! It only took me an hour and a half, hand-over-foot 4 at a time. Climb, stop, rest, cuss Michael E. I stopped at the first knoll, rested more, took pictures (great view) and slid my ass back down the hill. Went to the PMYC site with a big beer while Luigi set up for the day. P.S. Curt, next time wear real shoes. I had a great time. Thanks. Splash #1
11 My new rig's first shakedown cruise to the Point Mugu RV park. No surprises, learned how to work things and had a nice time on the beach. Love my new toy. Mike Blumenthal Dear Mike: I had a similar hiking experience a few years ago. Professional hiker Carol Butte took me on a hike at Emerald Bay. Janet Mundo & Carol's dog Buddy joined us. (All three experienced hikers.) I didn t know what I was getting into. We started climbing the huge cliff near Corsair YC. I was on all fours, grabbing weeds, and anything else I could get ahold of trying to prevent myself from falling backwards off the hill. I didn t dare stand up. Carol kept saying "just wait until we get over the hill...there's a beautiful beach on the other side." I kept that image in my sweaty head and thought...i can hardly wait to jump into the ocean to cool off. It didn't matter that I didn't have a bathing suit. I was gonna go for it in my birthday suit. Well, we had to cut our hike short as we came into view of the lovely, crystal blue water, because Buddy took off chasing a deer in the thick brush and got thorns stuck in his paws. We had to head back to civilization. Mary Ellen
