1 Best of Broadway Premiere Studio of Dance s 17 th Annual Recital It s the most exciting time of year around the studio! Premiere Studio of Dance will be presenting our 17 th annual Recital held at Showplace Performance Centre downtown Peterborough on June 2 nd and 3 rd. The dancers have been working very hard all year and are excited to finally perform on stage. Everyone is welcome to this fantastic weekend of dance please come and support all the amazing performers! Once again as members of Premiere Studio of Dance, your family will receive a FREE ONLINE COPY of our annual recital! Thank you for choosing Premiere as your dance studio! ** Please pay close attention to the following information. This is the most important note of the year!** Dress Rehearsals: are held at Showplace Performance Centre Wednesday May 31 st Jr Dress Rehearsal (see attached schedule to see your child s exact time on stage) Thursday June 1 st - Sr Dress Rehearsal (see attached schedule to see your child s exact time on stage) Recital Performances: Friday June 2 nd 6:30pm approx ages 10 and up, plus half comp routines check schedule Saturday June 3 rd 10:00am approx. ages 9 and under, plus half comp routines check schedule 2:00pm - approx ages 9 and under, plus half comp routines - check schedule 6:30pm approx ages 10 and up, plus half comp routines check schedule ** Due To Recital and Dress Rehearsal the Studio will be closed on Wednesday May 31 st and will re-open on Monday June 5 th for Bring a Friend Week! ** TICKETS: Will go on sale Monday May 1 st at 11:00am and are $23 each. Tickets will be available in person at the Showplace box office, by phone (742-SHOW), or on the web at Please be patient purchasing tickets on the first day as it s usually very busy between 11-1pm at Showplace. Rest assured that the shows will not sell out on the first day. Parents DO NOT need tickets to each show only the one they wish to view. Students wishing to watch the performance (from inside the theatre) will require a ticket. There is a closed circuit TV set up in the lounge downstairs so parents and students waiting to perform can watch. Showplace is a professional theatre and ALL seats are great for viewing dance! If you have any questions regarding ticket sales please call, , or ask your instructor. We are here to help! Please check the schedule carefully make sure you purchase tickets for the correct show! PLEASE... GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY!! WE CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PARENTS WHO DO NOT GET TICKETS, OR WHEN A SHOW IS SOLD OUT! FIVE, TEN & FIFTEEN YEAR AWARDS: If this is your 5 th, 10 th or 15 th year with Premiere Studio of Dance we want to hear about it! Please write your name and the title of your first year dance routine on the sheet posted on the bulletin board in the studio. Five year awards will be handed out either Friday night or Saturday during the 2pm show (depending on your age). Ten and Fifteen year awards will be handed out SATURDAY EVENING (both awards will be handed out near the end of the show). Please indicate when you d prefer to receive your award on the sheet posted in the studio if you perform in both shows. COSTUMES: Recital costumes will be arriving at the studio in the next few weeks. Please remember that a lot of thought and energy has been put into the creation of these costumes so be sure to take good care of them! Should your costumes need any adjustments our staff will take care of them for you! Students will be able to pick up their costumes during the studio office hours of 3-8pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 4-8:00, Saturday 9am-12pm. Before picking up your costume all dance fees must be up to date and the balance owing on the costume must be paid in full (approximately $35 - $75). Please note that we accept credit cards and Interact as well as cash and personal cheques.

2 NO COSTUMES WILL BE SOLD AT SHOWPLACE PLEASE PURCHASE YOUR COSTUME PRIOR TO DRESS REHEARSAL! DRESS REHEARSAL: SHOWPLACE PERFORMANCE CENTRE Please arrive at the theatre 20 minutes before your scheduled time for dress rehearsal (see attached), so that you are ready to dance. Be aware the changing space is extremely limited and that all change rooms are to be shared by ALL students regardless of how many routines they are in. We ask that dancers come ready in costume, and meet with their group in the downstairs lounge for pictures. All dancers are to wear their hair in a centre part low bun for ballet, or pony tail for jazz, tap etc., using lots of gel, bobby pins and hair spray (no bangs please!), unless otherwise instructed. Competitive Students are asked to have their hair in a middle part, low bun for the duration of the recitals. Dancers with short hair are asked to have it pulled back as best as they can with bobby pins etc. As for make-up, students are asked to wear blush, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick etc., as the stage lights really drown out a dancers colour. No jewelry is to be worn, and it is important that all students have the proper footwear (same shoes worn in class); otherwise they will not be permitted on stage (due to insurance/safety issues). Beige tights are required for jazz and tap groups, and ballet pink tights are necessary for all ballet numbers (no underwear please!). Proper tights and footwear are available at the Dancer s Closet (Parkhill and Monaghan, ). If you have any additional questions regarding make-up, footwear or tights please ask your teacher, or call the studio at During the dress rehearsal on stage, parents are encouraged to take lots of photos and record the performance, as there is absolutely NO VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPHY DURING THE RECITAL PERFORMANCE! (As a reminder our professional videographer will be recording the show for each family! So sit back and really enjoy your child s performance and not through the screen of a phone!) DVD S OF THE RECITAL: As previously mentioned each family will receive FREE online access to the recital video, just for being a member at Premiere! This allows parents and family to truly enjoy the live performance without having to worry about capturing the moment on a cell phone. Please respect the audience and dancers by not taking photos or video during our recital. Should you prefer a hard copy DVD of the performance that will also be an option for purchase through our online provider DRC Video. Details will follow shorty, but you will receive an with directions of how to view your copy, or purchase an actual DVD if you prefer. PICTURES: Photos will be taken prior to your child s scheduled dress rehearsal time (see following schedule for exact times on dress rehearsal day). Proofs will be sent to the studio (and via ), in June. Pictures can then be ordered and delivered either directly to your home or the studio for pick up. Parents please do not use your camera in the photo area (lower lobby) as it interferes with the professional photographers flashes, and causes delays to our rehearsal schedule your understanding is appreciated. Again feel free to take lots of pictures while the kids are dancing during their rehearsal on stage. COMMEMORATIVE RECITAL T-SHIRTS Once again this year we will be selling commemorative recital t-shirts. You will be able to order a shirt in the office when you pick up your costume. They make a fantastic keepsake! Competitive Students wishing to take part in the FINALE of the show, will be required to purchase a T-Shirt as it will be the costume. RECITAL DAYS: For the recital please arrive at the theatre minutes prior to curtain if you are performing within the first 10 numbers (orders for each show are attached), and use the back door performers entrance to Showplace. If you are dancing later in the show please allow for 2 minutes per routine when guessing what time to arrive. Again we suggest arriving minutes prior to when you estimate your child will be dancing. Parents are to drop their children off downstairs in the lounge so that they can wait with their group and practice before going on stage. Our backstage managers will escort each group to the stage and bring them back downstairs once they have performed. If your child is dancing later in the show please ensure they are downstairs and ready at least 10 numbers prior to their routine. Once your child has danced please come downstairs and pick them up immediately. ** Unfortunately we cannot be responsible for dancers who miss their performance due to coming late please make sure you are at the theatre and ready to dance EARLY! **

3 The recitals are approximately 2 hours (day show), 3 hours (evening), and all performances will have a 10 minute intermission. As the recitals involve many children, please feel free to come in and out of the theatre during breaks (applause). Once dancers have performed they are free to leave they do not have to stay until the end of the show although we d love the audience support! ** Please note that the performances for the FRIDAY & SATURDAY night are different from the SATURDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON PERFORMANCES. Please read through the attached schedules carefully. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the studio or info@premieredance.ca Finally, when you arrive at the theatre please check the program and order posted in the lower lobby to ensure there have been no last minute changes. ** CHANGEROOMS: ALL DANCERS ARE TO USE THE BACKSTAGE CHANGEROOMS IF NEEDED. NOBODY IS TO CHANGE IN THE WASHROOMS. THIS IS SHOWPLACE S POLICY AND WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. For those who are in one or two numbers we ask that you come prepared in your costume, as it will be very busy in the change room area. FOR COMPETITIVE STUDENTS THE BACKSTAGE CHANGE ROOM IS TO BE SHARED BY ALL DANCERS. A portion of the loung area will also be available. Please limit rac n roll use and SHARE whenever possible. Remember that space is very limited and it is recommended that dancers come prepared in costume with hair and make-up complete and ready to perform! Finally all costumes must be removed from the theatre at night. Again these are Showplace s rules and will be strictly enforced. We thank you in advance for your co-operation. VOLUNTEERS: The studio is looking for volunteers for each performance to help supervise children in the lounge and organize the groups in preparation to go on stage. Volunteers will be required to stay in the lounge and hall areas during the entire performance. Please sign up at the studio bulletin board under the recital you are able to help with. Thank you for your assistance with this huge event! BRING A FRIEND WEEK: The week following Recital is the last week of classes (June 5 th 10 th ). Students are encouraged to bring a friend or two to class for free. Current students are welcome to try any other dance class they are interested in as well. Please take advantage of this incredible opportunity! Early bird registration for fall will also be taking place. FALL REGISTRATION BONUS! This year we are once again offering a special early bird registration opportunity for all current Premiere Studio of Dance members and their friends. Current dancers can reserve their spot in the class(es) of their choice for next year with a $50 deposit ($10 per each additional class plus your monthly cheques or preauthorized credit card payment on file). Be one of the first 50 dancers to register and receive a free reusable Dance Mom, Starbucks cup! Register early, save your spot in your desired class, tell a friend, and avoid the rush of fall! All current members of Premiere Studio of Dance and their families are invited to a fun filled afternoon of complimentary BBQ hotdogs, face painting, games, bouncy castles, crafts, manicures, and of course DANCE! Don t miss out of this fun filled event. Our expert staff will also be on hand to help you with any questions regarding the season. Have a business you d like to feature? Ask us about opportunities to be a part of this fun filled day! COMPETITIVE DANCING: Interested in taking your dancing to the next level? Want to get the MOST out of your dance lesson experience? Competitive dance may be for you! Competition is when a group works on a routine during the entire year and performs it against other dance studios in competitions throughout Ontario and Quebec. Students get the opportunity to work on their performance ability, grace, flexibility, overall dance technique, and create life long memories and friendships. All competition classes are by audition (during

4 the summer and first 3 weeks of September 2017), and are offered to dancers ages 3 and up. Now is the perfect time to begin competitive dance! If you are interested in knowing more about competition or wish to arrange a private consultation please contact the studio at , or via at info@premieredance.ca SUMMER CLASSES AND CAMPS: This year we are offering many evening classes and day camps to satisfy your dance appetite during the summer! The summer schedule is available through your dance teacher, or by visiting our website ( and you can register any time at the studio. Remember that space is very limited so get your forms in quickly to reserve your spot in class or summer camp! Also in the last two weeks of June we are offering B.A.T.D. Exam classes in jazz, tap, and ballet (more info coming soon). This is a great opportunity to be rewarded by the internationally recognized British Association of Teachers of Dancing, for achieving a superior level of dance technique. As a reminder summer classes are mandatory for ALL competitive students and are highly suggested for those interested in maintaining a high standard in dance. COMPETITIVE NOTE: Finale at RECITAL This year we will be taking portions of each of our competitive jazz groups and using them together to make a Finale routine, which will be performed in ALL 4 shows during Recital. Dancers will be wearing a Finale T-shirt (approx. $25-$30), as well as their own black dance leggings, and bare feet. We will be holding extra rehearsals for this routine on Thursday May 18 th and 25 th from 4:45 5:30. Everyone in a competitive jazz class (5 and up), is welcome and encouraged to join! If you are NOT planning on being a part of the finale, contact the office to let them know (and a T-shirt will NOT be ordered for your dancer). We will also be doing an on stage rehearsal AND picture on THURSDAY JUNE 1 st see exact time below.
