8 Overvew of Event cnasco Festa Hsto~y n 1922, New Port Rchey ctzens planned a celebraton to attract people to the thrvng young cty and to rase money for the communty lbrary. Gerben DeVres, the ctys frst postmaster, was gven the task of preparng somethng new to serve as a program. nspred by hs nterest n Florda Natve Amercan trbes and the enchantng beauty of the rver flowng through the cty, he combned the two to create a fctonal pageant. Ths pageant gave the celebraton ts theme, the beautful Pthlachascotee Rver loaned ts name to the central characters (Kng Pthla and Queen Chasco), and a tradton was born. No longer a fund-raser for a local lbrary, the 2014 Chasco Festa benefted more than 25 not-forproft organzatons ncludng the Lghthouse for the Vsually mpared and Blnd, Sertoma Speech & Hearng Foundaton, Cotee Rver Lons Club, WPCC Young Professonals Group, the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, and several churches and schools. The Chasco Festa wll be held March 20-28, 2015 and offers nne full days of actvtes, and nne nghts of musc (most of them free!), ncludng: a Chrstan Concert, Rock and Roll Trbute, Classc Rock, Bluegrass, Blues, Oldes, and a Country Concert (the only tcketed evenng of entertanment). Held on the banks of the Pthlachascotee ("Cotee") Rver n New Port Rchey, the festval allows vstors to wtness a tradtonal Natve Amercan Powwow. Natve Amercan people from as far away as Peru, Ecuador, New Mexco and Oklahoma partcpate n educatonal actvtes and dance performances to showcase ther culture and hstory. Other Chasco Festa" actvtes nclude a premer street parade, the oldest runnng boat parade n the state, a chldrens vllage, coronaton ball, car & truck show, two-day flea market, softball tournament, bowlng tournament, golf tournament, 5k run, Hunger Walk, and of course, a carnval. f all that actvty makes you hungry, youll fnd food n plentful quanttes and unlmted varetes offered by both forproft and non-proft vendors. 9 Non-Prolts Benelt lrom Chasco Festa The drvng forces behnd Chasco Festa are the volunteers who help to make the varous events happen. Many local non-proft groups beneft ether drectly or ndrectly from the vstors who come to the New Port Rchey and the surroundng area durng the festval. n 2014, the non-profts rased over $210,000 to help support ther organzatons. Some of the groups set up food booths as a fund-raser and some partcpate drectly wth a specfc event to rase funds and awareness. There are also those who perform ther communty servce by organzng & runnng an event. However they partcpate, t s because of ther energy and enthusasm that Chasco Festa" has grown from a hometown far nto a regonal festval. The msson of the Chasco Festa Steerng Commttee s to contnue plannng and mplementng qualty events, so that these groups have an opportunty to rase funds. The Brdge of Hope Tabernacle The Brdge of Tabernacle has been partcpatng n Chasco Festa snce t s by far our largest and most successful fund raser. t not only rases the greatest amount of funds for our church, but also gves us the best possble exposure to those that mght not otherwse have heard of our church. And, spreadng the gospel of Jesus Chrst s, after all, our man goal n lfe. As for the funds rased, t started out as way to procure a buldng of our church. Now that that dream has been fulflled, the money rased at ths event goes toward payng on mortgage to our Church. We would lke to also thank each and every one that s nvolved wth Chasco Festa and to say thank you to all our customers that come back year after year. We love you all. Gulf Shores Sertoma As you know Gulf Shores Sertoma has been partcpatng n the Chasco Festa for over 10 years. Chasco provdes us as well as many other non-profts n the communty an opportunty to make West Pasco a better place to lve. Over the years the funds we have rased have been able to provde assstance to several local schools: a readng program, Take Me Home Backpacks", at Mttye P. Locke Elementary School, The Enrchment Wheel at Rchey Elementary, Thanksgvng Dnners to those n need along wth Holday gfts for many chldren at Moon Lake Elementary, Rchey Elementary, Gulf Mddle as well as Rver Rdge. We sponsor at least two chldren wth speech/hearng needs each year to attend Sertomas Camp Endeavor. Addtonally, our donatons to the Sertoma Speech and Hearng Foundaton has allowed them to contnue provdng hearng ads along wth the assocated servces n conjuncton wth All Chldrens Hosptal. vve are proud to be part of ths fun event and look forward to t each year. Wthout the Chasco Festa, whch s our major fundraser, these as well as many other servces provded to our communty would not be possble.

11 Rdgewood Hgh School Band CHASCO s very mportant to keepng the Band program alve at RHS. Throughout the past several years, fne arts programs, Band ncluded, have undergone drastc budget cuts. The thousands of dollars that were prevously funneled nto the arts are no longer avalable. We are asked to provde the same nstructonal opportuntes, but, to do t wth less and less fundng. Unfortunately, n a downed economy, the arts always seem to be the frst ones on the choppng block. Addtonally, other fundrasng opportuntes are dryng up as the economy plummets and busnesses can no longer afford to offer the support they dd n the past; be t through donatons, advertsng, or provdng low-cost fundrasng products. Further, many famles are lvng well below the poverty level and famles can no longer afford the nstruments and costs assocated wth ther student learnng to play an nstrument. Chasco s the MAJOR source of fundng for our Band program. Every very much needed penny rased goes drectly toward provdng equpment,. repars, travel expenses, musc, regstraton fees and other expenses for the RHS Band. ALL of the labor s provded by volunteers dedcated to our students and to ths program. t s a lot of work, but, fun and rewardng for those who are dedcated and nvolved. t also provdes a unque opportunty for our students to learn how mportant volunteerng s and how to gve back to ther communty. t bulds values such as; self-confdence, prde, commtment, work ethc, a sense of accomplshment and the self-gratfcaton that often cannot be taught n the classroom. Our students learn what workng together as a team can do and that s somethng they can easly apply to ther Band, ther famly, ther communty, ther career and ther future. J.W. Mtchell Hgh School Band At 170 members, the JW Mtchell Hgh School Band s the largest band program n Pasco County. Our program conssts of a Wnd Ensemble, Symphonc Band, Jazz Band, Percusson Ensembles, and a Color Guard program. Students nvolved n hgh school musc classes have been shown to have hgher GPAs and a hgher graduaton rate than those wth no musc credts, yet fundng s extremely low for fne arts. Our partcpaton n Chasco Festa helps rase funds for everythng we use ncludng nstruments, musc, unforms, and transportaton. Effectve fundrasng s necessary to keep our hgh qualty musc program functonng. We enjoy beng part of an event that many members of our band have grown up wth, and sharng the festvtes wth other local band programs and non-profts. We are proud to be part of ths long-standng tradton n our communty.

26 2015 Chasco Festa Recyclng Plan Chasco Festa, nc. has adopted the followng recyclng plan, to be followed at the 2015 Chasco Festa event beng held March 20-28, 2015 n downtown New Port Rchey. Ths plan was orgnally enacted n 2014, and wth great success for the frst year, has been updated for the next event n Below are the specfcs to the plan. Recyclng of Glass Alumnum Plastc General: Chasco Festa has a specfed dumpster for recyclng only on-ste at the event for the duraton of the nne days. Ths 20 yard roll off dumpster s placed at a locaton adjacent to the venue ste but far enough away from the general dumpsters to prohbt general garbage from beng placed n t. Ths dumpster s also wrapped n banners that say recyclng only. (Please see photo below) n 2014, the frst year of Chasco Festas comprehensve recyclng plan, the event collected.51 tons of recyclng. Contaners: Chasco Festa, n conjuncton wth recyclng at Pasco County, promotes recyclng to event attendees. Chasco Festa borrows the ClearStream contaners from Pasco County and also those from the Cty of New Port Rchey. These recyclng contaners are placed throughout the vendor and man event areas of the festval, drectly next to general garbage cans. Chasco Festa had great success n ncreasng recyclng efforts due to the close proxmty of the recyclng cans to the regular garbage cans. n addton to havng these contaners n Sms Park, near the hghest concentraton of attendees, n 2015 we are lookng to expand where recyclng contaners are located. We look to add contaners to the Chasco Market (held the frst Saturday and Sunday of the event). The locaton of the Chasco Market s adjacent to where the street parade

27 takes place (Crcle Boulevard and Central Avenue). Contaners wll be placed around the Market for the duraton of that event (ncludng the parade). Addtonally, we look to put addtonal contaners around Orange Lake on Saturday (for the street parade) and keep them n the area on Sunday for the annual Car Show. Both events, along wth the parade, are hghly attended and t s our goal to provde recyclng durng these peak attendance tmes. Addtonally for 2015, f contaners are avalable, we wll place contaners at the 6 DJ booth locatons on the parade route durng the Street Parade. Each DJ wll be scrpted wth announcements about recyclng before and durng the parade to encourage spectators to come to ther booths to recycle. Vendors have been nformed as to the mportance of recyclng at ths event. Recyclng cans have been placed near each of the vendors and they have been encouraged to remnd event attendees that Chasco Festa recycles when they purchase a can of soda or bottle of water. Vendors also recycle ther cans behnd ther vendor spaces. Chasco Festa volunteers collect these recyclng tems from each vendor and place them n the recyclng dumpster. Fnally, announcements are made throughout the event remndng attendees to recycle. Recyclng of Cardboard Chasco Festa provdes on-ste cardboard recyclng through Green Fber. A Green Fber dumpster s postoned between the recyclng and general dumpster locatons. All vendors are encouraged to recycle ther cardboard by placng cardboard materals behnd ther vendor spaces. Chasco Festa volunteers make rounds to these vendors, collectng the cardboard and dsposng of t nto the Green Fber contaners. Recyclng of Spent Cookng Ol Chasco Festa has a partnershp wth DarPro Solutons, a Darlng/Grffn brand (formerly Grffn ndustres) for dsposal of spent cookng ol. DarPro Solutons provdes Chasco Festa wth four (4) 100 gallon contaners where vendors pour ther cookng ol after t has been used. 29 2014 Chasco Festa Advertsng Promotonal Materal For the 2014 Chasco Festa, we dversfed our marketng efforts, encompassng varous forms of promoton. Below and followng are examples of ths years event marketng materal. The 2014 event saw a decrease n fundng from the TDC grant by $9,839. Whle ths dd effect the type of marketng that we dd, we were able to reallocate funds and be creatve wth our advertsng to ensure attendance at the event was hgh nformaton: Advertsng, marketng, and publc relatons efforts were measured by estmated attendance numbers, n addton to the surveys that were done at the event, food and vendor sales, as well as tckets sold for the Country Concert. The marketng efforts for Chasco Festa TM were focused on the weekends of the event, as those typcally brng a larger amount of people from outsde of the local area. Each survey that was taken asked vstors to dentfy how they became nformed about Chasco Festa. By dong ths, we were able to dentfy f our marketng efforts were successful based on where vstors heard about the event from. Ths wll also help us dentfy whch avenues of marketng are most promnent when we look to advertse Chasco Festa agan n n a random survey at the event, the followng were the results of the queston, "How dd you hear about ths event": *Respondents can choose more than one answer, check all that apply. Ths proved benefcal mostly wth the TV and rado statons. Three statons out of Tampa, ncludng WFLA (8), WTSP (10) and Fox (13) ncluded Chasco Festa n ther nghtly broadcasts when talkng about weather and thngs to do. Ths was a frst and we had many people tell us they heard about our event on TV. We wll produce a marketng kt and send t to the varous meda outlets n advance agan for the 2015 event.
