2 Dear Parents and Students: For the past 15 years, Dimensions has provided students with an exciting performance experience through its End of Year Show recital. The annual event of the dance and music school, the recital, conjures images of childhood and Americana for many. It s a rite of passage for thousands of young people, a chance to shine in front of family and friends that they anticipate with nervous excitement. This year, we are pleased to be performing once again in one of Albuquerque s best venues, Popejoy Hall. The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year s hard work, dedication, and progress. This year is a very exciting year for us. We are celebrating our 14th Recital (15 years in business) and this is the sixth year we are hosting 2 shows for recital! A big part of the dance and music training process includes learning through performance. The experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance or music, they also contribute to a person s success in other areas of their lives. That on-stage experience can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps students develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result. Dedication to recital commitments is the responsibility of both students and their parents. We ve created this packet in order to clarify what we expect from you in terms of commitments and responsibility to this annual recital, our school, and other students and parents. Please read the following information carefully and thoroughly. This will help alleviate the many questions that a recital brings up and make the entire process smooth and enjoyable for everyone. 3 PHOTOS: Individual Photos- For your convenience, individual photo sessions are available on May 6,11,12 th. A sign-up sheet will be in the downstairs viewing room soon. YOU MUST SIGN-UP IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS! You will receive a proof page within one week of the photos and you will be able to order at your convenience. There is NO session fee for the photos. Please wear your full costume including correct tights, shoes, and makeup for individual photos. (hair may be however you like for the individual photos) If you do not arrive on time, we cannot guarantee your time slot you'll have to wait until a spot opens up. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your signed up arrival time. *Cameras of any kind (including camera phones) are not allowed during photos. Group/Class Photos- ***Group/Class photos will be taken during pre-rehearsal at Dimensions on Saturday, May 19th. Please wear your full costume including correct tights, shoes, and makeup for group photos. Hair may be however you like for group photos, just make sure you have your hair accessory pinned in. *Cameras of any kind (including camera phones and tablet cameras) are not allowed during photos. Recital Updates: As we get fully into recital season, additional recital information or updates will be posted on bulletin boards and handed out in class. Parent packets will be available to view online as well and all information will be ED to you. Make it your responsibility to stay updated of this important information. It is our goal to make the recital experience organized and exciting for all involved. It s a team effort; students, their parents, the instructors, the admin staff and the directors are key players in the success of the show. Homework: Yes, that s right you have homework! To ensure that all students feel confident about their performances; we ask parents and guardians to encourage them to rehearse their recital choreography on a regular basis. Music for all classes is available for download through a link we will send to you for your child or yourself to practice at home! (available beginning April 2nd ) Attendance: You must attend all classes between now and recital. You are only allowed 4 missed classes between February and May (see policies and procedures for more info) The only exception is due to illness and a doctor's note is required. It is very important that we have all students in class so we can all progress and make sure we all know where to be in formations and are aware of changes in choreography. Costumes: We spend many hours determining the correct costumes for each class. They are always age appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Students will need one costume for each class that they are performing in. Costumes include all accessories (hats, gloves, etc.) They do not include shoes please see the costume book located in the lobby for the shoes needed for your class. Alterations: Although rare, if alterations are needed after the costumes have been distributed, they will be the sole responsibility of the student s parents or guardian. Please contact the front desk office for recommended alterations experts. Distribution Costumes will be distributed as soon as they arrive and are sorted. To ensure that there are not costume problems, students should not wear their costumes, accessories or tights prior to photo day. Please make sure to try everything on to make sure it fits, but keep it all together in a safe place away from siblings and pets until the recital. Costumes will be handed out the beginning of May.

4 Withdrawal: No refunds will be made if a parent or guardian withdraws a child from the recital, because costumes have already been ordered. If a student does withdraw prior to the recital, parents or guardians may pick up purchased costumes at the school at the time of general costume distribution and up to 15 days after the performance. Costume care: We recommend that your child s name be placed on all costumes, shoes, accessories, and tights. Place costumes in a garment bag with your child s name on the outside. Pack accessories in your hanging bag (supplied) with your child s name on the bag and on each item.(especially if you are performing in multiple numbers!) Press all costumes prior to the dress rehearsal and performance. Do not wash costumes in your washing machine; dry clean them only (after the recital). Tights: Most classes will receive the tights needed for their costumes. For all other classes, please refer to the costume book to see if you need a bodytight or socks. Students will not be allowed to perform without a bodytight if one has been assigned. You can purchase these items at local dance wear retailers, or through the front desk. Shoes: Our instructors have chosen the style and color of shoes that their class needs that best suits their costumes. Please see our costume notebook located next to the main doors for the shoes that you need. Please make sure that you dance in your new shoes at least a couple of times to break in your shoes prior to the recital - there s nothing worse than blisters the day of the show! Hair and Makeup - The finishing touch No matter how much work has gone into the technique and choreography, the overall production effects added to the beautiful smiles (through makeup) help make the performance memorable. Makeup contributes significantly to that overall impression. Without it, your features get lost and appear drab or washed out in the extreme lighting conditions of the stage. Consider it the finishing touch/professional polish that not only serves as a confidence booster but transform our dancers into performers! All female students should wear makeup for the recital regardless of age: Stay away from blue eye shadows and colored eye liner. Black eyeliner, raspberry or terra cotta colored blush (powder is best), deep reddish brown lipstick and brown shades of eyeshadow work best. Preschool dancers should use the same color as older dancers, but one shade lighter. More is better! If the makeup looks beautiful up close, it won t be enough on stage, where the costumes, lights and movement wash away the color. Remember, you want to see those beautiful smiles! Male Students: bronzer and little eyeliner work well - think of sportscasters on TV and the amount of makeup they wear. Preschool Dancers : Makeup is suggested, but not required. Lipstick, blush and a little glitter/eyeshadow is great! Hair: Details concerning hair will be attached to your costumes. No excessive bangs are allowed. Preschool classes are allowed to have bangs-details attached to your costumes. Pre-Planning: The recital isn t just a one day activity. Gather all costumes, accessories, shoes and makeup several days in advance so you ll know if something is missing or isn t right. Make a checklist of your child s routines, listing their costumes, tights, shoes, and any accessories and refer to it to make sure you have all your supplies before arriving at the theater. A little pre-planning will help alleviate nerves and stress the day of the recital! PLEASE make sure you take your child to the bathroom and feed them BEFORE they check in with us. There are bathrooms in the lobby of Popejoy that you may use before you drop off your child. We will have water and GOLDFISH crackers backstage. If your child is not allowed to have goldfish, you need to let us know at drop off. You may send them with a snack/sack lunch, but please make sure it is in a ziploc or brown bag that can be thrown away. The less they have to carry and keep up with backstage, the better! More details in the final packet. ** Pre-Rehearsal: Saturday, May 19, Dimensions Studio A Pre-Rehearsal schedule is attached to this packet and posted in the studio. Each class has a different arrival time and will run rehearsal for their section for an hour. This Pre-Rehearsal time will also include our class photos.we do this pre-rehearsal as a run through before we get on the big stage. It s a chance for the dancers to dance in our big classroom in front of each other. Great way to get any nervousness out before the big show!

5 Dress Rehearsal-Friday, June 1, 2018 (arrival times will be in final packet handed out in May) The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costumes and being on stage (and backstage). Lighting, music cues, set changes and all other logistics for an organized professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. Participation in the dress rehearsal is mandatory. We run an organized and timely dress rehearsal; your help with the process will guarantee a professional production. Please arrive 45 minutes prior to curtain (time sheet will be out 3 weeks prior to the show). Students need to arrive in their first performance costume (adult students may change in the dressing rooms upon arrival if necessary). Dressing Room Etiquette: Students must respect other student s space and property in the dressing room. The students will spend more time in the dressing rooms than onstage or in the auditorium, so please do your best to keep them organized and clean. Food and drinks are not allowed in the dressing room. Capped water bottles are allowed. Dress Rehearsal Guests: Two parents/guardian may accompany each student to the dress rehearsal. Please adhere to this policy in order to alleviate crowds and confusion. We need to minimize crowds and distractions as much as possible! Dress-Rehearsal/Recital Performer Drop off: (Friday and Saturday) Parents or guardians should bring students to the loading dock located on the left hand side of Popejoy Hall. Please park and then walk your student into the loading dock. There is only a very small parking lot by the loading area that is permit only. Driving in that area will cause traffic congestion and unnecessary risk to students being dropped off. A table will be set up for check in for our students. Students will be checked in and placed with their assigned class instructors. Parents or guardians are not allowed backstage and must remain in the auditorium until the students are dismissed. Dress Rehearsal/Recital Performer Dismissal: SAME AS LAST YEAR! (Friday and Saturday) All performers will be involved in the grand finale bow. Once all performances and the bow is completed, we will dismiss the students through the lobby in a roped off area in the order that they performed for pick up. The class supervisor will collect your stickers (level 1 and under). More details will be out in the final packet. Video and Photography: Parents or guardians may videotape or take photos of their children at dress rehearsal ONLY (Friday). Due to the large number of cameras, no electrical outlets will be available, so be sure your batteries are fully charged. Please note: No video or flash photography will be allowed in the auditorium at the recital (Saturday). This is primarily for the dancer s safety (it only takes one flash or red light or cellphone glow to cause a dancer to miss a step or landing) and will be strictly enforced. Secondarily it is for the other viewers to do not wish to bend around your camera, cellphone, or video equipment to watch the show they paid to see. Lastly, it is to improve the overall quality of the professional photography and videography we like to offer you. Reminder: All students will receive a link to download the recital video for FREE about 3 weeks after the show. (Dimensions PERKS!) Auditorium Rules: No eating, drinking, or smoking is allowed in the auditorium or dressing rooms. Dancers will remain in the dressing rooms with their class supervisors during dress rehearsal and the recital when they are not on stage. Backstage Family members and friends are not allowed backstage or in the dressing rooms during rehearsal or the recital. The same applies before or after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space and dressing rooms are a private area. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of those areas. Those who wish to greet a performer after the show or present flowers should do so in the drop off area or lobby. Preschool Parents: We take our preschool classes to the bathroom regularly throughout the event. However, in case of an potty accident, we do keep extra tights backstage and we will have your child change if they need to. Students should be able to go to the bathroom with minimum assistance backstage, so please practice that with them at home in the next few months (if they aren't already proficient!)

6 Class Supervisors: In order for all our parents to enjoy their child s performance, we have all staff members and assistants backstage. They are in charge of keeping track of everyone in their classes, making sure that all students have the appropriate costume on, accessories etc. All class supervisors and instructors will be wearing badges during dress rehearsal and recital. If a problem does arise in which a child s parents are needed, an announcement will be made from the stage with directions on where to go to meet your child. We understand how important it is for your child to make her stage cues and go out looking their best. We make every effort to achieve this. Recital Ticket Policy: All tickets are reserved seating. Tickets will be available for purchase through April 15 th. An announcement will be made in the studio once the tickets are available. Ticket costs: Children up to 3 years old are free if they sit in an adult lap (lap pass) Children ages 4-12 are $9.00 regardless of seat placement Adults: Tickets range in price from $13-$18 depending on proximity and viewing angle to the stage. Please Note: There may be service fees in addition to the ticket price as is common with ticket vendors. Understand that it is not Dimensions charging these fees nor do we receive any percentage/commission of these service fees. Make sure you purchase the correct show! There are two shows! A 10:30 and a 2:30pm. Please see the recital schedule and student name list to make sure you get the correct tickets. DVD s: Our recital will be professionally videotaped by REAL IMAGE production studio. All students will receive a link to download the recital video for FREE about 3 weeks after the show. (Dimensions PERKS!) Flowers, Cookies, T Shirts, Souvenirs: Roses will be available for purchase at the recital. We will also pre-sell flowers in the studio beginning today to help alleviate all the things you have to think of as a parent the day of the recital! It is traditional for dancers to receive flowers at the end of recital in recognition for a job well done! T shirts will be available to pre-order online for at home delivery. 7 MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!! -PRE-REHEARSAL INFO The final run through at the studio before the big stage! PRE-REHEARSAL & GROUP PHOTOS for Dimensions Billboards & Legends Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Dimensions Dance Studio Arrive in full costume including dance shoes! You will do a group photo (individuals will be scheduled on different days) then we will be running through your routines as a group. (see below for times) Regular classes on Saturday, May 19th & Sunday, May 20th are canceled, we will be doing only pre-rehearsal this weekend. If you are not participating in the recital, you do not need to attend. We conduct this pre-rehearsal to help alleviate the issues we might have at our dress rehearsal at Popejoy. We are running this recital a little differently than the past and want to make sure the students are well prepared. It is very important that you are at this pre-rehearsal! If you are in multiple numbers, you need to bring your costumes and arrive at the designated times. (feel free to go get food or take a break between sessions if you have time) Due to the high number of bodies we will have in the studio, we are asking that only one parent/guardian come with our preschool dancers if at all possible. You will need to stay in the viewing room or outside during the class. We will dismiss the classes go one group at a time to make sure our little ones get to their parents.
