Band From band camp in the summf::r, through marching competitions, atheletic events, concerts and commencement exercises the Ranger Band showed their pride and determination and came up winners. 1. The Band officers are Tony Gerber, president; Joan Lindauer, secretary; Nancy Sturgeon and Henry Haake, treasurers; and Marcia Kluemper, vice-president. 2. The Band performed in many competitions. 3. The Marching Ranger Band. 4. Field commanders, David Henke and Debbie Herbip. 6

8 4th at State Under the direction of Mr. Gene Keusch and Assistant Band Director Claudia Earnest, the band tied for fourth place in the state marching competition to make their marching season a success. 1. 9 Drill Corps marches with pride The Drill Corps is a group of hard-working girls who helped add flash and sparkle to the band. All year the Drill Corps members worked to polish and perfect their routines. The corps, under the direction of Mrs. Claudia Earnest, marched in parades and contests, and entertained audi- ances at half-time of home basketball games. They did a combination of flag and dance routines. During the year, the Drill Corps was named best flag and rifle corps at Ohio County, Ky., and best rifle corps at Owensboro, Ky. 8

11 Chorus has successful year The Forest Park Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Claudia Earnest, had a very successful year. 13 As Mixed Company set the enchanting mood for the 1981 Holiday Ball, entitled ''Holiday Fantasy'', students relaxed and enjoyed themselves into the evening. 15 Student Council: Voice of the students l.mr.ronald Etienne swears Theresa Welp in as Student Council president. 2. Officers of the Student Council are Theresa Welp, president; Diane Begle, treasurer; Marcia Kluemper secretary; and Chris Dilger, vice-president. 3. The members of the Forest Park Student Council are the voice of the student body, pre senting the majority opinion and ideas to the administration for consideration. This year the SC held the annual Holiday Ball, the Queen Crowning and Queen Crowning dance and had the SC exchange with other area schools. 14

The Beta Club officers for , Susan Lamkin, secretary; Tom Wahl, treasurer; Linda Brinkman, president; and Lori Kivela, vice-president; lead the Beta Club in their various activities. 2. Junior Tammy Blessinger gives her campaign speech during the State Beta Convention. 3. Laurie Vaal and Judy Jochem do a dance routine during the talent competition. 4. The Beta Club participated in several activities throughout the year. Members went on a skiing trip to Paoli Peaks, and held the annual Mother's Day Dinner. At the major activity of the year, the State Beta Convention, the Forest Park Beta's won the talent and scrapbook competitions for the fifth consecutive year. Tammy Blessinger was also elected vice-president of the Indiana State Beta Club. 15

17 NaHoSo shows leadership The National Honor Society conducted various activities which served the school and community. The NaHoSo worked in the bookstore throughout the year. They sponsored the Free-Throw-A-Thon. In the fall the NaHoSo held an induction banquet in the school cafeteria. The parents attended and the guest speaker was Jerry Royer. 18 Quill and Scroll honors Quill and Scroll is an organization created to honor outstanding high school journalists. To become a member of the Quill and Scroll society, a student must be doing superior work in journalism, be in the top quarter of his or her class and be nominated by a majority of the students already in Quill and Scroll in the school's chapter. 1. 19 FF A has an enjoyable year The Future Fanners of America completed an enjoyable and successful year,highlighting it with their annual banquet. 20 FHA has successful year Under the supervision of Mrs. Mary Miller, the Future Homemakers of America carried out many activities to make this year successful. Among these projects were the annual clothing drive, a cake raftle and the Mother Daughter Banquet. 1. The FHA Members. 2. 21 Pep Club helps in Ranger drive The Forest Park Pep Club backed the Ranger teams with pride, determination and enthusiasm. Under the leadership of Mrs. Peggy Lake, they showed their true spirit. 22 Horseman's Club 1s very act1ve The Horseman's Club was the most active new club at F.P. this year. They visited Ruxer Farms, went to the Kentucky Horse Park and participated in a horse judging contest. 1. No Jackie, Rox can't be your horsie. 2. 23 New club is for outdoorsmen The Canoeing and Backpacking Club was a new club at Forest Park this year. The club members went on a canoe trip during the summer. 1. 24 Foreign language students form club The Foreign Language Oub was another new club for To join, a student had to be taking either Spanish or German. 25 'The Music Man' Forest Park's annual musical The Music Man was presented March 26,27,and 28. It turned out to be a big success! 1. 26 Joan Lindauer is crowned 1981 Basketball Queen The night of January 17 was a dream turning into a golden memory for Joan Lindauer. She was crowned the 1981 Basketball Queen during the between-game ceremonies. The royal court reigned over the victorious game against Tecumseh to make the night memorable. 1. 35 Math... a process of UXJrk In the math department this year, the classes offered were general math, business math, geometry, Algebra I, pre-algebra, unified math and Algebra II. These classes were taught by Mr. Larry Klein, Sr. Rose Rexing, Mr. Tom Meyer and Mr. Charles Jones. 1. Mr. Meyer helps Cheryl Brinkman on a math problem. 2. 36 Science... solving problems and answering questions This year in the science department, Biology I, Biology II, Chemistry I, Chemistry II, and physics were all offered. Classes were taught by Mr. Nathan Schnellenberger, Mr. Kevin Wertman, Mr. Tom Meyer and Sr. Rose Rexing Lori Kivela works on an experiment in chemistry. 2. Sr. Rose Rexing mixes a formula for herself, so she can find out how she really is. 3. Anita Blessinger uses a pinch ofthis, and a dash of that. 35

37 Social Studies... a look at the world This year in the social studies department, world history, U.S. history, sociology, psychology, geography and government were all offered. Classes were taught by Miss Ellen Hendricks, Mr. Bob Borden, Mr. Rick Fears, Mr. Donald Osburn, Mrs. Katie Rodighiero and Mr. Frank Smith. 1. These seniors prove that class can be fun??? 2. 38 Getting down to business The classes offered in the business department were clerical office, general business, accounting, business law, data processing, shorthand, business machines, Typing I and Typing II. 40 English... a verbal jungle The classes offered in the English department were English I, II, III and advanced composition. Mrs. Joyce White, Mrs. Peggy Lake, Mr. Ed Walston, Mr. Robert Borden and Mr. Frank Smith taught these classes. 1. Danny Begle works intently on his English. 2. 42 Graphic Arts... creates the best In the graphic arts classes this year, the students worked under the direction of Mr. Steve Stoffel. 43 Industrial arts... building for the future Industrial arts classes, taught by Mr. Jim Johanneman, Mr. Steve Stoffel and Mr. Jeff Johnson, taught the students many useful skills. The I.A. classes offered during the past school year included power and trans., welding, woods and drafting. 1. Kevin Bolte and Steve Becher are goofing off once again. 2. Eric Blessinger seems to be quite content with his work. 3. Brad Uebelhor is finally doing something worth while. 4. Roger Klem displays his ability of working with the drill press. 5. 44 Agriculture... students turn farmers This year the agriculture depart ment was instructed by Mr. Kent Peter. The students learned the skills necessary to become good farmers. 1. Alan Steffen and Mr. Peter cut pipe for welding curtains to go in the new Ag. building, which was completed this year. 4. Pat Fromme uses the machanical hack saw to cut some steel stock. 43

45 Home economics preparing for the future The home economics department was once again taught by Sister Josepha Book and Mrs. Mary Miller. 47 Driver's education... 'wheel out' in style This year the driver's education department was taught by Mr. Nate Schnellenberger and Mr. Robert Borden. The courses combined textbook assignments, work on the automotive simulators, driving on the driving range and experience on the road. 1. 51 Rangers run on The highlight of the season for the 1980 cross country team was winning the Paoli Invitational on Sept. 18. This was the first time in F.P. history that the cross country team had won an invitational tournament. They placed thirteenth in the Jasper Sectional, ending the season with a record of 46 wins and 59 losses Cross Country team. 2. Pat Heilers and Dave Brahm talk things over. 3. 52 Boys' tennis has outstanding year This was the year for the Ranger tennis team. They finished their season with the best win-loss record of any F.P. tennis team, with 12 wins and 5 losses. In the sectional at Paoli the Rangers defeated Crawford County and the Patriots of Heritage Hills. The netters were then defeated by Salem to close their season The 1980 Tennis Team. 2. 54 Rangers step up to 'big timr,s' The Rangers had a good season this year in volleyball, finishing with a 14 win, 4 loss record. The V -bailers were the only team in the Dubms County area to beat Castle. 64 Frosh finish season 8-8 The Freshmen finished their season with a.500 mark. 67 Netters finish impressive winning season The girls' tennis team, coached by Mr. Larry Tenbarge, finished an outstanding season with an impressive record of 11 wins and only 4 losses. Although we have made many achievements, we still have a long, winding road before reaching our destination. The goals in our future are uncertain, but we will face all of our challenges with the same determination and pride that we have accumulated at Forest Park. Graduating from Forest Park will only complete a very small milestone of our future, for we have only begun to conquer the challenges that lie ahead. 93 Junior year has faded from view Our junior year has gone by very quickly, but it has not passed without leaving us many unforgettable memories. We have accomplished many goals in the three years at Forest Park. We have used these three years to mature, accept responsibilities, and most of all, gain the respect of our peers.
