1 Impact Lancaster Submission: Our Story April 22, 2016 Ecore s mission statement is to transform reclaimed waste into performance surfaces that make people s lives better. We really take the last part making people s lives better to heart. We are a flooring company focused on providing safe, sound absorbing, and ergonomically superior products to the marketplace. Whether providing good jobs, making great products, or helping our neighbors in need, Ecore is a company truly dedicated to making people s lives better. There s no better example of that than what Ecore did with its Team Up Against Hunger food drive March 14- April 14. Ecore wanted to improve the lives of those in need in Lancaster City. This is where one of our plants is located in and many of our employees live. We did this by sponsoring a food drive. While many food banks receive an influx of food donations around the Christmas holidays, food donations tend to be low during other times of year. Ecore selected New Creation Church, a new church that is the combination of two former Lancaster churches, El Redentor and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, as the beneficiary, because it is situated in an area of Lancaster City that has many people in need. Located at 10 West Farnum Street in Lancaster, New Creation Church also serves the Sunnyside community. For approximately 25 years, El Redentor and St. Paul s United Methodist church each ran their own food banks, respectively. When the churches merged, there was no question that this mission would continue. The New Creation Church Food Bank provides pre-bagged groceries, including fresh meat and produce, to anyone in need and serves about 60 families a week. New Creation also supplies food to The Mix at Arbor Place, a non-denominational faith-based, 501c3 not-for-profit organization also located in southeastern Lancaster City that is dedicated to meeting the spiritual, social/emotional, academic, and physical needs of the city s inner-city youth. Before the Team Up Against food drive began, Ecore set a goal of collecting 1,200 pounds of food. By partnering with our friends, family, and associates, Ecore was able to collect 11,416 pounds of non-perishable goods! This is almost 10 times our original goal! We dramatically exceeded our goal by breaking employees into 11 teams of members and having them compete with one another to collect the most food. The winning team would be rewarded with an upscale catered lunch and custom-made T-shirts, promoting the event and the winning team name. Combining our employees competitive spirits with their desire to help others was the perfect recipe for success. Before the food drive began, Ecore named two-food drive co-chairs to organize the logistics and to keep everyone on track. This included involving Ecore s in house designer to create a custom logo for the food drive and collection bags to transport donated goods. Each team s food collection was prominently displayed on a wooden pallet in a designated area, so collected items were visible and could be measured. Team captains served as cheerleaders to

2 encourage giving and by keeping the competition in high gear. The banter between the teams was energizing and motivating. The friendly rivalries between teams were further enhanced with fun team names and promotional pieces, such as signs, to help drum up support. Each week, team collection totals were posted on Ecore s Intranet and social media sites to inspire teams to continue collecting food. Ecore s winning team was the Hunger Busters, who obtained more than 3,000 pounds of food! This one team gathered more than double the amount of food Ecore had set out to obtain at the beginning of the food drive! Ecore CEO and President, Arthur Dodge III, summed up Ecore s effort best by stating: Unbelievable! What an amazingly kind and generous group of people I am blessed to work with You are all awesome! Ecore really did help to make the people of Lancaster City s lives better with the Team Up Against Hunger food drive! Below is a photo collage of our challenge. A fun promotional sign created by Team Hunger Games, which features Ecore employees, was displayed throughout Ecore.
