2 Sideline Cheer Tryouts May 10th Sideline cheer tryouts begin on Tuesday, May 10th with a mandatory mee!ng at 6:30 pm in the CHS commons. Workshops are Monday, May 16th through Thursday, May 19th from 3:15-5:15 in Jordan Court. Tryouts are on Friday, May 20th beginning at 5:30 pm in Jordan Court. It is a great opportunity to make a life!me friend with someone from a country or language group that interests your family. The student must be provided with their own bed in your home, but can share a room with a sibling in your house. The host family is expected to treat the student as a member of the family, including them in meals, family gatherings, chores, going to church, etc. The exchange student uses their own money for school lunches, clothing, and other personal expenses. We are proud of your hard work and effort! Parents: From the Attendance Office We are experiencing an increase of phone calls to the school reques!ng to get your student out of class. These phone calls come last minute and ge1ng your student in a moment s no!ce is not always possible, we need adequate!me. We understand that emergencies do come up, but we ask that you plan ahead with your student when you have an appointment. Please send your student to school with a note: have the!me of release, full name of student, purpose of absence and a parent signature. Have your student bring the note into the office in the morning and we will give them a pass to leave at the appropriate!me. This way your student is able to leave, insuring you get you student without a possible wait. This procedure also reduces the amount of interrup!ons to the classroom; we document over 75 note deliveries a day to classrooms. That is a lot of interrup!ons. It is also helpful if you schedule your student s departure around passing periods. Thank you for your con!nued help. 5 Student of the Month for April ADVANCED OPPORTUNITIES Cda Rotary Hayden Rotary Panhandle Kiwanis Delaney Vesciano Reegan Jacobson Annalisa Gorringe There have been significant changes made to the Advanced Opportuni!es programs through the state of Idaho. The 8 in 6, Early Completers and Fast Forward programs have been combined. The new program provides a total of $4,125 for each student grades 7-12 to pay for online classes outside of a full school day, and Dual Credit courses through Idaho colleges and universi!es. Students are eligible to u!lize this funding as early as this summer to pay for classes. Counseling Calendar Time to Sign Up for Summer School! Students who need to make up for a failed course are encouraged to register for summer school as soon as possible. Forms can be found in the counseling office. Applica-!ons need to be completed and returned to the counseling office by Friday, May 27 th. Summer school credits mainly focus on the recovery of core classes (English, Math, Science, History or Speech). Elec!ve credits are available for retrieval through Plato offered at Venture as well. Classes will only be offered if enough students sign up to jus-!fy a class. This is why it is important to sign up early. 6 AHen,on Class of 2016 Parents! ALL-NIGHT GRADUATION PARTY is June 10th This is a parent sponsored and supervised drug-free and alcohol-free celebra!on for our graduates. Triple Play Family Fun Park gives us exclusive use of ALL of their ac!vi!es including bowling, outdoor fun & games, the laser tag, rope climb area, and the water park. We bring in a casino and provide all food and beverages from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. following gradua!on at CHS on June 10. The students earn Viking Bucks throughout the night and will be able to purchase items in the party store as well as buy!ckets for our many raffle items. The raffle and store have a variety of prizes: electronics, gih cards, apartment/dorm supplies, outdoor gear, just to name a few! It is a fun-filled night loaded with special memories for the graduates and the parent volunteers. One student who a&ends the party will be drawn to have a 1/5 chance of winning a car from Knudtsen Chevrolet on June 15. This fun party requires many volunteers to help make it run smoothly. More help that night in entertainment, security, store, bag security, food, and casino would be so appreciated. When you see what fun the kids have, you ll be so glad you were there! Triple Play requires that your name be on the volunteer list in order to come in to the gradua!on party. Free memory boards for students who have purchased their senior party!ckets are available for pick up in the library or from Liz Fitzgerald ( , lizzyfitz5@gmail.com). Liz lives on Davenport, very close to the school. You can decorate your memory board anyway you want. Most people a&ach pictures and the students name on the board. You can organize the pictures by themes, like home, school, sports, or organize them by age star!ng with the baby years. Your student will bring the decorated memory boards to school on Friday morning, June 10, at 9:30 AM (prior to gradua!on prac!ce) to be put on display in the Commons all day and for gradua!on. Boards will be transported to Triple Play that night and your One month le6 to buy a Party,cket! All-night gradua!on party!ckets are available to purchase in the commons at the end of the day, 2:15-2:45 on Wednesdays, May 4 and May 18 from Liz Fitzgerald for $65. Or you can fill out the!cket order form located on our website and mail to Liz. Party!ckets will also be sold in the morning of May 24, at the entrance to the auditorium before the Senior Mee!ng. 7 GRADUATION TICKETS Graduates will receive five (5) gradua!on!ckets on June 1st directly aher the last Senior Class Mee!ng. They may sign up for extra!ckets by ing the Registrar at between April 5 th and 2:30 pm June 8th. (No phone calls, please) Extra gradua!on!ckets will be dispersed at rehearsal, June 10 th. If you do not plan to use all five,ckets, please return them to the registrar so that others may ahend the gradua,on ceremony. The ceremony is Friday June 10, 2016 at 7:00 pm. OVERFLOW SEATING Those who are unable to obtain!ckets for family and friends to a&end the program in the gymnasium are welcome to watch the program live on a big screen television in the CHS Auditorium. This area offers more comfortable sea!ng for elderly guests and guests with small children along with easy accessibility to restrooms. Again, no!cket is required. FINAL TRANSCRIPTS If you plan on a&ending college, remember that colleges require a final transcript with your gradua,on date. See the Registrar to fill out a Transcript Request Form. 9 A Big Thank You To Our Parents and Community! CHS is sincerely grateful for the support we receive from our parents and the community! We are fortunate to have volunteers who s support helps us make our high school a safe place where our kids can learn and thrive. These are just a few of the parents and groups that have worked with us over the last few months. We appreciate you more than you ll ever know! Coeur Closet Receives Kohl s Associates-in-Ac,on (AiA) Grant CHS is sincerely grateful to Kohl s and their employees, led by Rhonda Story, for their generous grant of $500, and many hours of!me, for our Coeur Closet program. Coeur Closet (in the Viking Vault) provides our high school students in need with professional a1re, formal wear and athle!c equipment, which allows them to par!cipate when they might otherwise be leh out due to financial hardship. Students are able to borrow formal wear for dances, and receive professional a1re (which they may keep!) to wear for senior projects, gradua!on, and any other high school ac!vity. We sincerely appreciate CHS families Kurt, Paula and Darby Lyon, as well as Mike, Polly and Mercedes Melendez for everything they do to keep Coeur Closet available for our students. We also grateful for the many anonymous supporters and an Angel shopper for their!me and financial support. 11 CHS Class of 2017 Senior Yearbook Informa,on Deadlines: Yearbook Prices: August 2015 December 16, 2016 Yearbook Pre-Purchase Price $60 Non-preorder purchases for possible extras in May- $65 (To pre-order, payment options are available, please see the bookkeeper in the front office) Senior Deadlines: September 23, 2016 Senior Portraits Due ($5 per business day late fee up to Oct. 16th ) October 31, 2016 Senior Tribute/Group Ads Due (aka baby ads) Senior Portraits: Regular school pictures will be taken by the school picture photographers during registration for all seniors. Seniors have the option to choose to purchase professional senior portraits in place of their school portrait. Professional portraits are not required; all seniors have the option to use their school photo. Professional senior portraits can be used to replace the school portrait. Student names will be listed as their legal name on file with the school as the day that senior portraits are due, name changes will not be made after this date. Sorry, no exceptions. Since the photo can be used legally for identification purposes, the following requirements will be in effect for any senior choosing to submit a professional portrait: Portrait format: Wallet size, typically 2X3 inches- larger file size better Vertical shot from the waist up (Horizontal portraits will not be published). No full length shots. (see examples below) Include only the senior (no props, animals, or other people) Can be inside or outside shot No soft focus Frontal view, student must be looking at camera, not taken from the side, above, or below- front view Professional quality (school photo will be used if portrait submitted is not professional quality/resolution) Name submitted with picture MUST be the legal name on file with the school Portraits may be cropped to fit Portraits must include at least all of head and shoulders. No close-up photos allowed Dress Code: School dress code will be enforced. Notifications will not be given. Your school picture will be used instead. Submission format/instructions: Students are responsible for supplying this submission information to their photographers. The deadline for portrait submission is Friday September 23 th, The most recent, available ID photo will be used in place of a senior portrait if a senior portrait is not submitted by the deadline or does not meet the above criteria. Final say on the appropriateness of all senior pictures is left to the discretion of the administration. Only students who are currently enrolled at CHS by the photo deadline will be included in the senior portraits section of the yearbook. The yearbook staff reserves the right to crop the picture as needed. A list of senior names who have submitted professional portraits by the deadline will be outside room 601 and will be updated weekly started with the first week of school. Please allow 24 hours for your name to appear. If your name does NOT show up on the list, please again. We can t be responsible for not publishing your professional photo if your name is not published on the list. We will also send out several s to seniors and senior parents the list of the names of approved senior portraits. Administration has final say on approval of senior portraits. Senior Ads: SENIOR TRIBUTE AD FINAL INFORMATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL. Senior ads give the parent or guardian, the opportunity to congratulate their student on his or her accomplishments. The deadline for senior ad submission is Friday October 31st. Purchase and create ads online here: Order Number Pictures can be baby pictures, childhood pictures or senior pictures as long as they are school appropriate. Senior ads do NOT have to be done online. You can bring in the photo and information, with payment, and have the yearbook staff create the ad for you. Make sure to write legibly and to spell check. Yearbook staff is not responsible for misspellings on submitted materials. Pricing information can be found on the order center and start at $55. The yearbook staff reserves the rights to edit your ad if words or pictures are not school appropriate. There are a limited number of ad pages. The group would be responsible for establishing a group coordinator who will collect all the pictures, money and words for the page and create it online by the deadline.
