1 Forever Young Southaven s Senior Adult Group SEPTEMBER 2018 OCTOBER THE GOLDEN GRAPEVINE Our Sock Hop Luncheon certainly brought out the poodle skirts and saddle oxfords. Our sponsor for this luncheon was Edward Jones at the Getwell/Goodman location. Everyone really enjoyed the music and songs provided by Forever Young s Stayin Alive. A very special thanks to Annette and Glenn for their rendition of Ike and Tina Turner s, Proud Mary. Congratulations to Jan Sappington and Paul Canada, who won the beautiful gift baskets from Dillard s for the best costume contest. Everyone went all out this year, so it was very hard for our sponsors to choose a winner. Thanks to Rebecca at Kroger for the flowers for our center pieces and to Winde for taking and developing our pictures. Your pictures can be picked up at our office. Thanks again to our volunteers who helped us put on this luncheon. The Sock Hop theme was carried over to our Friday Night Dance where we danced to the music from the fifties and sixties. It brought back wonderful memories. Billie McElhaney won the best costume contest at the dance that evening. Forever Young s Western Luncheon Friday, October 12 at 11:00am Our Western Luncheon will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at Forever Young. Bring out those cowboy hats and boots, and get ready for a good time. Expect to see some cattle rustlers, saloon girls, and a few Indians. John Woods will be serving Catfish with all the trimmings. Humana will sponsor this luncheon. Entertainment will be provided by Amy Hughes of Sweet Pea's Table, being accompanied by Roy Waddell with Double Edge. There will be great door prizes and prizes for the best costume. Seating is limited, must purchase tickets by October 8. (Cost is $10). The theme will continue at the Friday night dance ($5 at the door). Prizes will be awarded to the winner of the best costume. We expect to have a boot scooting time.

2 Senior Day at the Memphis Zoo Wednesday, October 3 9am-2pm Free entry, parking, tram rides, and access to the exhibits such as Ancient China, Northwest Passage, and Teton Trek are all available for seniors attending this event. Information on financial planning, housing, insurance, care giving, hospice, home health, and other related information will be available. You must be 55+, and provide your own transportation. Humana Seminar Café Area Thursday, October 4 at 10am This is the time of the year to make decisions on your supplement policies. Come in, and receive information on what is available and which policy suits your needs. You must sign up at Forever Young s office to attend. Limited seating, Refreshments will be provided. Game Day at Forever Young Wednesdays, September 26 and October 3 at 12:30pm Located in the Yoga room and the Front Café area. We ll be playing Bingo and The Price is Right. Refreshments will be served. Tickets are $2.00 (cash only) and must be purchased at the Forever Young office until sold out. Sponsored by SecurTrust Federal Credit Union. Lunch Bunch at Akita Hibachi Steakhouse Thursday, September 27 11:30am Southlake Center, 35 Goodman Rd W, Southaven, MS. We will be seated at the Hibachi grills with master chefs. Your choice of Hibachi Chicken, Steak, or Shrimp served with Soup, Salad, Fried Rice, and Drink. Cost: $14.00 (cash only) including tip. Tickets must be purchased at the Forever Young office. Seating for this event is limited and will sell out quickly. 3 Casino Day Fitzgerald s Wednesday, November 14 Bus leaves at 10:30am Southaven Arena 7360 Hwy 51 N. Southaven, MS Cost: $8 (cash only) includes bus, tip, free buffet, and $10 free play. Please park in front of the new storm shelter for bus pick up. You must be a member of Forever Young to purchase a ticket for the casino trip. You must have a valid driver s license or ID and your ticket when you get on the bus. Bus will reload at 3:30pm and arrive back at the Arena at 4pm. Due to gaming regulations, you must be on the bus upon arrival in order to receive buffet and free play. Movie Day Thursday, October 25, at 1:30pm South Point Church 2010 Stateline Rd W, Southaven, MS New remake movie of Overboard. Kate is a single, working mother of three who's hired to clean a luxury yacht that belongs to Leonardo --a selfish, spoiled and wealthy Mexican playboy. After unjustly firing Kate, Leonardo falls off the boat and wakes up with no memory of who he is. To get payback, Kate shows up at the hospital and convinces the confused amnesiac that they're married. As Leonardo tries to get used to manual labor and his new family, Kate starts to wonder how long she can keep fooling her fake husband. Rated: PG13. Forever Young s Friday Night Dance 7pm-9pm You don t want to miss our Friday night dances from 7pm to 9pm. Our DJ, Terry Mc ilroy, will be playing a variety of music for all dancers. We plan on having Back to the Fifties and Sixties Night on Friday, September 28. Get ready to Jam. A special request list will be at the entrance table. Morris and Wanda are going to teach us another round dance on Friday, October 5 at 6:30pm. Come dance the night away in an alcohol and smoke free environment. $5 at the door. Bring your favorite snacks to share. Birthday celebrations, the first Friday each month. Cake and ice cream will be served. We will be spending a day at the spectacular Holy Land. Experience re-enactments of Jesus life and death. Walk through a Jerusalem street market. Experience breathtaking music and dancing shows and much more to see. The next day we will visit the beautiful Space Coast of Florida. Then we will head to Cocoa Beach and visit the historic COCOA BEACH PIER. Next we will visit Gatorland and tour the park on the GATORLAND EXPRESS. We have an optional day at Epcot Center or you may browse the town before our dinner party that night. If you choose to go to Epcot Center, you will be responsible for buying your ticket at the gate. This trip is sold out, but you may put your name on the wait list. We will be taking another trip to The Ark Encounter in the Spring of 2019, since so many of our seniors have not been able to go and experience this great trip. The on-sale date and price for this trip will be in the November/December newsletter, along with more information, so be sure and get yours early. We will be going to the Creation Museum where you will venture through biblical history. We will, also, spend a day at The Ark Encounter. Bigger than the imagination, this life size Noah s Ark will amaze you as you experience the pages of the Bible, like never before. We will visit the Newport Aquarium with 70 exhibits, 14 galleries, five seamless tunnels, walk the shark bridge, and enjoy the penguins in action.
