1 An Affiliated Chapter of Society of Decorative Painters Volumn 12, Issue 05 President s Message Wow! Don t know about you but what an April, I have had! Easter, Family reunion in Ga. Celebrating My twins, Megan & Dustin and my grandson, Bryson birthday, 4/9. Ended the month, with my oldest son Shane, competing in the 2018 Public Power Line Workers Rodeo, in Raleigh, NC. It consisted of 65 teams & 147 apprentices from Utilities across the U.S. Proud to say, Shane s team, made up with Austin Franey, Billy White, Shane Paras & Dave Wolfe serving as an alternate, brought home a perfect score of 500 and 5 trophies! 3 rd place 4kv Jumper Replacement 3 rd place 4kv Crossarm Change Out 3 rd place 4kv 600 Amp Switch Replacement 2 nd place Hurtman Rescue **3 rd Place Best Team overall IN THE NATION** Apprentice Austin Gunther came home with three - 3 rd place trophies Apprentice Danny Kelly came home with a 1 st Place trophy Double Dead-End Bell Change Out. I know you probably don t know what these are, but it s such an accomplishment for our Kissimmee Utility Company, KUA! To be 3 rd Place in the Nation! Congratulations!!!! Mary Francis s project that was enjoyed by all of us who were there!!! Thank you Mary! I ve had so many compliments and mine isn t even finished yet! So everyone take a deep breath, because it s going to be a busy May! What with Cinco de Mayo, Mother s Day, our May project taught by our own Miki! Thank you for postponing your surgery to teach us this project. Thank you in advance! Then May will end up with Memorial Day!! Thank you goes out to all the servicemen, who have fought and/or died, defending our country! Everyone stay safe and keep painting! Nan 1

Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (St. Rd. 192), Kissimmee, FL The business meeting starts at 10:00 am and is followed by a painting workshop/seminar. Guests are welcome to attend a meeting to see what we are all about before deciding on membership. Chapter membership is open to all members of Society of Decorative Painters. You can find more information on SDP at decorativepainters.org. ODA chapter dues for 2018 are $25/year. ODA Board meetings for 2018 will be held immediately before the general meetings, beginning at 9:00am. All Board members are asked to make every effort to attend these meetings. White Chacopaper recommended or a very light hand when transferring design. Surface should be sanded, sealed, sanded, base coated with black (more than one coat) and sanded again before program. 5 Saturday June 16, 2018 Members Appreciation Luncheon & Auction Committee: Sandy Roberts - Chairperson, Lynn Ingersoll, Debbie Smith, Jill Terrill, and Barbara Layton The committee is requesting responses for the following information: Would you like to demonstrate a quick and easy on any medium for our quests? Debbie Smith has volunteered to pour acrylics on tiles. Jean Zawicki will demo gourds. And you? Invitations are being prepared for you to invite guests. Suggestions are needed as to what could be used as a gift for those who bring a guests. Should your guest decide to join our chapter, what could be used a thank you for joining. There will be a sign-up sheet available at the May meeting for you to indicate what you will be bring to the covered dish items. Remember, you ll need to provide double what you would normally prepare. Please bring your auction items on Saturday, June 16. Bundling will not be done unless that s the way you organize them. 5

7 2018 General Meeting Minutes Debbie Smith Osceola Decorative Artists General Meeting April 21, 2018 Meeting was called to order at 10:45 am. One visitor today Bonnie Manden and she joined ODA membership. A motion to accept Treasurer s report as printed in the newsletter was made by Barbara Layton and seconded by Stephanie Pooler. Motion to accept the Secretary report as printed in the newsletter was made by Sandy Roberts and seconded by Mary Francis. Committee reports: Membership: Sandy Roberts extended an invitation to the senior center. There were no responses. Sandy asks if anyone has any ideas to please share with her. Sandy also met a member of the Art Center who was not aware of our organization that also meets at the Art Center. Currently there is an event of Women Artist of Osceola and we will try to be included next year. Hope Boxes: Jean Zawicki is tracking donations of Hope boxes. She will donate a China nightlight for the most donated boxes. She will have a picture in the newsletter. Seminars and Workshops: Lynn first asked for a vote on the medium choice for the Mark Menendez seminar. The majority voted for watercolor. Lynn then passed around the choices in watercolor for the membership to choose. Lynn shared that the board had decided to not have two big brushes back to back. Therefore, she will replace the July seminar with a Christmas in July workshop lead by Debbie Smith. Sandy Roberts had a suggestion of a Mandela workshop. Bonnie will contact Janelle with our decision and inquire about a road trip to her teaching location. Bonnie Rand asks that her workshop be moved to November. Deanna Spence will teach a fall workshop in October. Deanna asks for suggestions. Michelle Mueller will be teaching the May stroke work workshop. She announced that please do not stress about having all the colors. They don t have to be exact, if any questions please her. Also, she announced that member please feel free to select their own surfaces, but don t shrink the pattern. Lynn announced that the watercolor giraffe was voted on for the project for the Mark Melendez seminar for August. She will the ODA membership then open it to other chapters. Mark asks for minimum of 10 students. The fee will be $50. 7

8 New Business: Grace Pattison met a new abstract artist that lives in Harmony. She gave Lynn a card to contact about a possible future workshop. Nan received our membership cards in the mail and passed them out to members in attendance. Nan also announced that Sandi Byers will be our new Board Member-at-Large. Judi Arntz shared that the Museum of Decorative Painting in Atlanta was closing. She has been there and encouraged members to go if given the opportunity. Pam Caley donated a color pencil of a male and female cardinal to the chapter, they will be raffled off for cash at today s meeting. Meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.
