Wootan Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair Abigail Moisan competed in the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair this weekend and won a first place prize. She won The 2016 Sanofi Genzyme Science Award and is eligible to compete in the national science fair called the Broadcom Masters, in Washington DC. She has one more step to complete an application before being nominated to participate in the national fair. Only 30 students are selected to compete in Washington. She is a true scientist, completing a scientific inquiry experiment after researching the topic of global warming and the melting of the ice caps due to carbon soot pollution. We wish her luck in her future participation in the national fair. Honor Teachers with Recognition Awards Has a special teacher inspired your student this year? Racking your brain for a meaningful way to thank the great faculty members who helped your senior get into college? Send them a Recognition Certificate! For a minimum $10 donation per teacher to Masconomet Education Foundation, MEF will send each teacher a Recognition Certificate acknowledging your gift. Click on the following link to make the donation online (specify the teacher(s) honored and your student s or family s Masconomet Middle School Newsletter
3 name as you d like to see it on the certificate); or download the form and mail it in with payment. Order by June 1 for seniors, June 10 for others, to guarantee your teacher receives the certificate in time! Remember, all donations support educational initiatives at Masco. It s the gift that gives back Masco Millions We reached our goal of 1,000,060 pages! We have a Masco Million Celebration scheduled for the afternoon of June 15. Thanks to all the participated. Job well done! For Planning Purposes: Promotion Ceremony Attire As you begin to shop with your child, if he/she needs a new outfit for the promotion ceremony, we thought a few guidelines would be helpful. We ask that students do not wear jeans, casual beach type shorts, or t-shirts. Boys frequently wear khaki pants or dress shorts with a shirt and tie, however, many boys will also wear a golf shirt. Girls wear a nice skirt and shirt, dress pants and a shirt or sundress. We will relax the requirements on straps so that girls may wear thin straps or strapless sundresses, but will enforce, and ask you to help us enforce, that any skirt or dress is the appropriate length and fit. Thank you in advance for assisting us to make this important event a great day for everyone. The promotion ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 17 th at 8:30 a.m. in the Field House. Students may leave that day with their parents immediately following the ceremony if they choose to. Upcoming Dates of Importance: June 13 Cedardale & Canobie Lake Field Trips June 15 Masco Million Celebration June 16 Last Full Day of School June 16 Grade 8 BBQ/Field Day June 17 Promotion Ceremony, 8:30 a.m. Field House June 17, 20 & 21 Early Dismissal, 11:30 a.m. June 21 Last Day of School Masconomet Middle School Newsletter

11 Host Families Wanted! Worldwide International Student Exchange (wise.wisefoundation.com) is a non-profit educational program. We are looking for Host Families to welcome students coming from Spain this summer. Hosting a student is a rewarding experience for the whole family! Here is some info: Students can share a room with your child of the same gender. Students are ages years. Students have a structured program, Monday-Thursday from 9am- 5pm with English classes and field trips and Friday ESL from 9am- 12:00. Students come with their own spending money. All of the students speak English; you do not need to speak Spanish. Students will enjoy that you make them part of your family.
