3 El Campo de Español (Spanish camp) Bienvenidos al camp de ESPAÑOL! During this week long camp, campers will learn to communicate in simple conversations. Each day will focus on a different Spanish speaking country through such activities as speaking, singing, reading stories, watching short videos and crafts. Instructor: Sara Price, Fuqua Spanish Teacher Who can attend: rising 1st -5th graders Dates: Monday, June 4 Thursday, June 7 Time: 9am- 12pm Tackling the Fundamentals (football clinic) Let s get ready for the fall! Learn the basic skills and fundamentals necessary for a solid football foundation on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, as well as special teams. The goal is to make every participant who attends a more knowledgeable and confident football player when he/she leaves. Instructor: Tom Noehren, Fuqua JV Football Coach Who can attend: rising 6 th -9 th graders Dates: Monday, June 11- Thursday, June 14 Location: Football Practice Field (below the Upper School Gym)
4 Let s Go Falcons! (cheerleading camp) Chants, cheers, and jumps show your spirit through cheerleading! Campers will learn techniques and tips as well as dance choreography and much more. If your child is interested in being a cheerleader, this camp is a great place to start! Instructor: Fuqua School Varsity Cheerleaders Who can attend: rising K- 5 th graders Dates: Monday, June 18-Thursday, June 21 Location: Lower School Gym Shoot 2 Score! (basketball clinic) Basketball enthusiasts will develop and improve fundamental basketball skills and develop new techniques. Shoot 2 Score camp is great for the beginning basketball player to the more advanced basketball player. The instructor for this camp is Chuck Thomas, Fuqua School s Head Basketball Coach. Coach Thomas has 27+ years of coaching experience at the high school, Division I and Division III College levels. His experiences will help your child improve fundamental skills and their basic knowledge and understanding of the game. Instructor: Chuck Thomas, Varsity Boys Head Coach Who can attend: rising 6 th - 10 th graders Dates: Monday, June 25-Thursday, June 28 Time: 8:30am-12pm Location: Upper School Gym
5 Fantastic Sportstastic (sports camp) Fantastic Sportstastic is for campers who love sports, games and fitness activities! Campers will receive instruction in a medley of sports which may include basketball, soccer, baseball, kickball, dodge-ball, tennis, bowling, Frisbee and golf. Campers will be divided by age group. Math Fact Frenzy (math camp) It's all fun and games at this camp. Your child will participate in all sorts of games to improve math fact fluency. This camp is open to anyone who has finished with K- grade 5. Your child will work with addition and subtraction or multiplication and division. Students will make and take a few games to play with for the rest of the summer. 6 Who knows what to expect in the Mad Scientist s Lab! Campers will be discovering new and unusual reactions daily with hands on activities. Be prepared to brew, mix, mash, concoct, swirl and twirl as you explore the basics of chemistry! Instructor: Kathy Jefferson, Fuqua 4/5 Teacher Who can attend: rising 2 nd -6 th graders Dates: Monday, July 9- Thursday, July 12 Location: Lower School Lab Marvelous Mad Scientist (science camp) Robots in Action (robotics STEAM camp) Explore science, technology, engineering and math in a fun environment. Participants will use the LEGO Mindstorms kit to design, build, and program robots that can perform both simple and complex tasks. The robots are controlled with motors and can explore the environment with a variety of sensors. Participants will construct and program the robots while working in groups of two or three, learning to build robots capable of performing pre-defined tasks. Space is limited. Instructor: Cameron Rhew, Fuqua Middle School Head and Hunter Melton, '22 Who can attend: rising 4th - 8th graders Dates: Monday, June 18-Monday, June 21 Time: 9am - 12pm Cost: $75
7 Girl s Night Out (inside camp out) Manicures, pedicures, and lots of glitz. Bring your sleeping bag and join us for a fun sleepover in the Lower School Library. During this overnight adventure, girls will play games, listen to a story or two, watch a movie, and even pamper themselves. Dinner and dessert will be part of the fun. Girls will get to showcase their culinary talents. Homemade waffles for breakfast will be a highlight of the morning and send the girls off in style! Bump, Set, SPIKE! (volleyball clinic) Instructor: Monica Williams, Fuqua 2/3 teacher Who can attend: Girls, rising 2 nd -5 th graders Dates: Thursday, July 12- Friday, July 13 Time: 5pm-9am Cost: $30 Learn the fundamentals of volleyball and gain confidence as your skills improve. Campers will learn proper warm-up and stretching as well as proper passing, hitting, and serving techniques. Our camp director will also cover blocking, digging, and serve receiving. Instructor: Matthew Houchins, Fuqua Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach Who can attend: rising 5 th -12 th graders Dates: Monday, July 16-Thursday, July 19 Location: Upper School Gym
8 Bon Appétit (culinary cooking camp) Are your children always helping in the kitchen, asking to bake cookies or make supper? If so, send them to BON APPÉTIT, a four-day cooking camp. Campers will learn a variety of different cooking skills in a fun atmosphere. From making the perfect pizza to pancakes and crêpes, and three different types of quesadillas to pasta with a multitude of toppings and cheeses, this amazing camp provides the opportunity to learn kitchen terms, skills, and equipment. Campers will learn to make meals that include great side dishes, and will bring home food each day. SPACE IS LIMITED. Instructor: John Ellington, Fuqua School Director of Operations & Food Services Who can attend: rising 6 th -12 th graders Dates: Monday, July 16- Thursday, July 19 Location: Gee Price Activity Center Cost: $75 (food will be brought home each day) Bullies Be Gone (martial arts bully defense) If your camper is looking for a fun time, we won t disappoint! Our camp is loaded with games, activities, and exercises that will focus on realistic self-defense, bully prevention, kidnapper prevention, stranger danger, and fitness. All in a fun, safe, and exciting environment. This fun, action-packed camp will help get campers in shape, make them bully proof and build their confidence. Instructor: Jeremiah Bunker, Owner & Instructor Battle Ground Martial Arts Who can attend: rising K-5 th graders Dates: Monday, July 23- Thursday July 26 Location: Lower School Gym
9 Cheerific! (stunting/tumbling camp) Teens will learn how to condition to avoid injuries and work on sharpening or developing their tumbling skills and stunting technique. Groups will work together to learn how to build pyramids. Healthful snacks will be provided, but be sure to pack a lunch and water bottle. Instructor: Cameron Rhew, Fuqua Middle School Head, UCA stunting and tumbling certified, former cheerleading co-captain at Longwood University, and former cheerleading co-captain of the Jefferson District Champions, the Louisa Lions. Who can attend: rising 6 th 12 th graders Dates: Monday, July 23-Thursday, July 26 Time: 9am 12pm Location: Upper School Gym Making Waves (swim camp) From bobbing to splashing, campers will have fun in the pool. Mermaid races, noodle jousting, and atomic whirlpool are just a few of the exciting things to expect. Campers will also have the opportunity to play some of their favorite sports while being in the water; how about a fun game of water volleyball or maybe basketball is your sport of choice. Camp is open to the beginning swimmer through the more advanced swimmer. This camp is all about fun in the sun and water! For swim lessons, please contact the Fuqua School pool. Space is limited. Instructor: Connie Hicks, Pool Manager Who can attend: rising K - 5 th graders Dates: Monday, July 16 Thursday, July 19 Time: 9am- 12pm Location: Fuqua Pool
10 Roller Coaster Design (STEAM camp) Campers will learn how roller coasters sustain energy momentum through loops and turns, how to convert potential energy into kinetic energy, and about centripetal force by engineering and design of their own model. Hike, Bike, and Explore! (outdoor adventure camp) Instructor: Kathy Jefferson, Fuqua 4/5 Teacher Who can attend: rising 3 rd -8 th graders Dates: Monday, July 9-Thursday, July 12 Friday- optional day- additional cost (cost will depend on number of participants)- trip to Busch Gardens to ride roller coasters. This will be an extended day trip. Time: 1pm- 5pm Enjoy hiking and biking around Farmville and local trails. Campers will create a photo journal of local plants, animals, scenery and fun from their adventures. They will also learn how to use geocache. Campers must be able to hike and bike several miles daily with stops to enjoy the surroundings. Trips include High Bridge Trial, The Sarah Terry Trail, Longwood University, and the Fuqua School nature and rock trial. Required: sneakers, sunscreen, bike helmet, and water bottle. 11 GIANT Maps Camp (geography camp) Learn all about maps, cartography, orienteering and geocaching on the school s campus. Campers will also participate in fun hands & feet-on lessons, as well as geogames on the National Geographic Giant State Traveling Map of Virginia (16 x 20 ) and the Giant Traveling Map of North America (26 x 35 ). Campers will be REQUIRED to wear socks and sneakers daily. Little Engineers (STEAM camp) Instructor: Kathy Jefferson, Fuqua 4/5 Teacher Who can attend: rising 2 nd -5 th graders Dates:: Monday, June 11-Thursday, June 14 Location: Lower School Gymnasium Using literature, campers will become engineers to design projects that help solve world problems. They will work in collaborative groups as they plan, design, create, and test their designs. Help the Three Little Pigs Build a house that could withstand a hurricane. Stop London s Bridge from Falling Down. Instructor: Kathy Jefferson, Fuqua 4/5 Teacher Who can attend: rising K-4 th graders Dates: Monday, June 11- Thursday, June 14 Time: 1pm-4pm
12 Jump-Start Art Studio (art camp) Students will create two-dimensional and threedimensional art. Drawing, painting, and plaster sculpture are among the media to be explored. Students will practice with watercolor and tempera paint, while creating abstract and realistic paintings. Students will experiment with basic color theory and create a unique color wheel. Different types of brushes and the importance of brush stroke will be discussed and practiced in class. Delve into mixed media and different application processes. Instructor: Forrest Layne, Fuqua Art Teacher Who can attend rising 2nd - 6 th graders Dates: Monday, July 9-Friday, July 12 Time: 9am- 12pm Location: Lower School Art Room Falcon Tales (reading camp) 1st through 4 th graders take flight as they read, write, and create tales to remember! Each child will keep a "travel log" as we journey to faraway places using familiar--and not-so-familiar--stories to inspire us. Join us for a week of adventure! Instructor: SJ Drummond, Fuqua English Teacher Who can attend: rising 1 st -4 th graders Dates: Monday, July 9- Thursday, July 12
13 Movie Design (STEAM camp) Using Legos and clay, campers will learn how to write a creative story, invent characters, design a set, and record a movie using Stop Motion technology. Campers will not only create their own short film, but collaborate with peers and learn the different roles of film production. We will upload and share movies on the last day.
