2 Diplma Blck Caving Engineering Presentatin The Department f Mining Engineering ffers the Diplma f Blck Caving Engineering. The prgram is riented t engineers, gelgists and thers related engineering prfessinals. This prgram prvides students with a brad-based fundamental knwledge f mine design, planning, and peratin f Blck/Panel Caving systems. It is als designed t strengthen students' cmmunicatin, prblem-slving, critical thinking, and teamwrk skills. The Diplma is rganized in: Seven mdules f ne-week length cvering different areas f the Blck/Panel Caving mining. Persnal wrk between mdules. A case study develped by the wn student. A written Prject where the student shuld apply the subjects reviewed during the prgram. The prject will als be rally presented in the last mdule. Objectives The bjective f this prgram is t prvide theretical and advanced tls fr the design, planning, and peratin f undergrund mining mines, with a strng fcus n Blck/Panel caving system. This tls include the ge - characterizatin f rck mass and its gemechanical prperties, cnstructin techniques f undergrund mines, planning and lgistics, mining design, material handling and mine ventilatin. At the end f the prgram, students will btain a strng scientific - technlgical backgrund that will help them face the cmplexity f caving peratins. 3 Diplma Blck Caving Engineering Curse descriptin The Diplma cnsiders 7 mdules f ne-week length (280 hurs) cvering different areas f the Blck/Panel Caving mining and persnal wrk (80 hurs) between mdules. Here yu can find a brief descriptin r cntents f the curses f the Diplma. Curses cnsider amng their activities exercises with the supervisin f assistants. 1. Ge-characterizatin f explitatin znes Stresses, fracture criteria, fracture types, rck prperties, clasificatin methds (RMR, GSI, Q, etc.), Hek & Brwn rck mass strength criteria, rck permeability, shear strength fr discntinuities, study cases. 2. Gemechanics applied t Blck/Panel Caving mines Undergrund excavatins, intrductin t numerical mdelling and use f sftware (Rck Lab, Phase2, Induced seismicity/ Rckburst, Rck mass stability, Caving mechanisms, Open pit undergrund interactin, Subsidence mechanisms. 3. Mine Operatins fr Blck/Panel Caving. Cnceptual framewrk and fundamentals f Pre-cnditining (Hydraulic Fracture HF, Dynamic Weakening with Explsives DWE and mixed techniques HF+DWE). Experimental plans and review f results in industrial testing (Cdelc and Newcrest Mine), Calibratin, mnitring and cntrl. Prductin and material handling, drawpint and drifts, grills, laders, and crushers. Secndar, mnitring and KPIs, material handling systems fr carse material (Railway, trucks, cnveyr belts, shafts, and ther material handling systems) Fundamentals f Mine ventilatin, fan curves and laws, ventilatin studies, techniques and methds, thermdynamics and ventilatin ecnmics, mnitring and cntrl, ventilatin applied t caving mines, dust cntrl, challenges. 4. Mine Design fr Blck/Panel Caving Undergrund mining methds selectin (mine design, selectin and criteri f undergrund system, thers). Blck/Panel Caving mining methds (basics, characteristics, variants/ classificatin f caving methds, parameters that supprt te mine design prcess), challenges and perspectives. 5. Mine Planning fr Blck/Panel Caving Definitin f re resurces and reserves, drawpint and gravitatinal flw, extractin pattern, area and extractin rate, definitin f pprtunity cst, mine planning, lng-term planning, ptimizatin, reliability and uncertainty in mine planning applied t caving methds. 3

Management and the cnstructin prcesses, Csts, Cycle calculatin, uncertainties in the cnstructin prcess. Cnstructin methds fr shafts (Blind Hle and Raise Brer Machine). Crushers rm, key factrs and excavatin sequence and methdlgy. Drilling and Blasting fr Blck Caving mines (explsives and initiatin systems, rck-explsive interactin, prductin and blasting, caving and blasting, mnitring and analysis f blasting rate, mnitring and analysis f induced vibratins by blasting). Digital image prcessing fr fragmentatin analysis. Jksimblast sftware training (2dface & 2dring) 7. Presentatins, Case Sudy The bjective f the curse is t allw the student t apply knwledge and techniques acquired during the Diplma, thrugh cnducting a prject f their chice, n a Blck Caving related tpic. Fr this, the necessary, infrastructure fr its develpment is ffered by the University f Chile. Each prgram s mdule will be evaluated thrugh tests/readings/presentatins/reprts and/r a final exam.
