4 Publicity Thoughts We are half way through our bowls year and heading on the final stretch to the National Championships yet again. Good luck to everybody. I am sure we will do well once again. There are some issues with the Publicity Printer at the moment. I had to replace the Drum and after was done it is now leaving a thick dull patch down the middle of all pages. If anybody would like a copy of the QIBILO ed to them, I am more than happy to oblige. For a copy Please kyle.french82@gmail.com. Personally I want to thank every member of the committee and the people I have been playing bowls with who have supported me in the last few months as I have had a few big changes going on, so thank you to everybody for your support. I am unsure if it has ever happened before, but congratulations to Errol and Kayelene Weir. From what I can see they are the first Husband and Wife combination to win the Singles in the same year / event. It s a massive achievement for that. Congratulations to you both. Thank you also to anybody that has provided anything for the QIBILO and the Lowry tribe for providing many of the photos for this issue. It was great to see a few more juniors this year! Congratulations to Lachlan Moore for winning two senior state titles his first year playing competition Rinks in May and Triples in October. He will catch his parents before they know it! The bowls year is almost over! July titles, Nationals and October titles have passed. Good luck to everybody playing in the Restricted Singles coming up and the delegates meeting that night! Queensland Indoor Bowler s Ideas, Letters & Opinions. Page 4
5 Hopefully see you all at Caloundra s Carnival to end this bowls year. Don t forget the AGM and Restricted Rinks in Dalby the first Saturday of February! A quick note, I have now moved. If you require my address to post something please let me know. Kyle French PRESIDENTS PONDERINGS The running and organising of the QIBA is not an easy task. It really is a thankless job. Some of us spend many of hours each week doing QIBA work. You might be thinking, yes that is your job. That is correct, when we take on our position we realise there is work involved and we endeavour to get these jobs done as soon as we practically can. Sometimes things do slip through the cracks and we endeavour to rectify this as soon as we are advised, but you must be aware this is voluntary position. We do not get paid a weekly salary to do this job. We fit our QIBA commitments in and around our work, family life and other involvements. The Secretaries work load is enormous and our Assistant Secretary has been stepping up where necessary to lend a hand. As a committee everyone should be pulling together helping each other out where necessary, not waiting to be asked but coming forward asking if there is anything that needs to be done or can I assist with anything?. We should be ALL working together, working as a team to get the job done for the QIBA. By doing this we become a more efficient organisation. Queensland Indoor Bowler s Ideas, Letters & Opinions. Page 5
6 At Delegates meetings, I am all for all members present, delegates or COM members having their say on topics for discussion but it must be done in a manner that is civil. The accusations, the sarcastic tones in your voice are not required. Speak to us in a normal manner and we will be more than willing to answer your questions, but verbally attacking us is not the answer. Once again it is all about working together and treating each other civilly. What is the old saying, Treat others as you would like to be treated! I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Queensland Team travelling down to Shellharbour in August for the Australian Championships all the best. A big welcome also to the new members of the team, Margaret Stevenson, Cameron Hancock, Nicholas Schmidt, Shirley Young, Yvonne and Darryl Barlow, Jenny Cruickshank, and twins Timothy and Philip Lowry our 2 junior boys. Travel safely and good bowling for the duration of the Championships and bring home the medals for yourself and for Queensland. Don t forget our up and coming events. State Championships in October and Restricted Singles in November. Keep an eye out for the flyers or have a look on the website. Take care everyone. 21 Nominations were down on previous years but we would like to thank everyone who came and supported our Carnival. Without the support of fellow Associations and Clubs we would not have a carnival. It is very important that we get out there and support each other and the QIBA Championships because if we don t who knows what might happen to bowls. Our members have travelled and played in weekend carnivals at Wondai, Redcliffe and Boonah with all members enjoying themselves. We are travelling up to Toowoomba to participate in their 4 State Championships and members are looking at the upcoming Carnivals Flowers in Toowoomba and the October State Championships. This year Caloundra Association is celebrating 40 years of Indoor Bowls in our hall, with the hall opened in November A celebration will be held over our Christmas Weekend of Bowls on Saturday 26 th and Sunday 27 th November. Keep an eye out for our flyer which will be out soon, with all the details about what is happening over the weekend. A little birdie told me there could be an increase in prize money for both days for the weekend and a free BBQ lunch on the Sunday. Check the flyer for all details of play and closing date. Hope you all can come and help us celebrate this special occasion. On the alternate Friday nights we have been playing 4 bowls on the 30ft carpets to get in practice for our members who are playing in the Australian Championships. We would like to wish our members and all members of the Queensland team good bowling at the Australian Championships in Shellharbour.
