3 TOOWOOMBA INDOOR BOWLS ASSOCIATION On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 21 st, 22 nd and 23 rd January we held our Annual Australia Day Carnival. Owing to the floods which have covered a large area of Queensland and the devastation caused we were down in numbers by about 40 players. However with 296 individual nominations we were very pleased and thankful for three days of fine weather. On Friday night we had 31 rinks. The carnival was officially opened at 8pm by Mr Geoff McDonald who is the President of the Local Chamber of Commerce. Mr McDonald did an excellent job in officially opening the competition. Many players were surprised to hear that the Hall in which we play used to be an aircraft hanger. The rinks on Friday night were played in very good spirits with results as follows: Open winners: SUTTON 2 - Reg Sutton, Kathy Humphreys, Bob Brazier and Val Evans. Runners up: Don and Mel Smith and Frank and Ros Berry. Consolation Winners: John and Lois Norton, Glen Casey and Dulcie Casey. Consolation Runners up: Ros Richter, Alma Martin, Peter Buckel and Sue Buckel Saturday was lovely weather with about 25 degrees. There were some very close matches in the pairs with the eventual results as follows: Open winners: Nelson Thomas and Justin Weir. Runners Up: David Blyth and David Stoker. Consolation Winners: Vince Lakin and Beth Weir. Consolation Runners Up: Julie Weigand and Ryan Weigand. Owing to the numbers in the singles draw for Sunday it was decided we would play 2 mens singles matches at 8 am so as we could have 31 mats playing at approx am. Sunday morning a beautiful day and the 4 players arrived on time and we had a great day. The winners of the Singles competition were as follows: Ladies Open Winner: Vonnie Hughes. Runner up: Jean Sorrenson Consolation Winner: Ros Richter Runner Up: Charm Powell Mens Open Winner: Errol Weir Runner Up: Justin Weir Consolation Winner: Brett Farrell Runner Up: Eric Folkner As a result of the floods one of our bowlers Bruce Warhurst from Postmans Ridge has been missing for 2 weeks. His house was swept away and he and his wife Wendy have lost everything. Two of our main raffle prizes were donated by the winners to Wendy. It was nice to see Wendy come to the hall for a short period on Saturday which must have been very difficult for her. Both Bruce and Wendy are members of the Toowoomba Association and all our prayers and wishes are with Wendy. Our next 5 game day will be held on June 26 th. Why not keep this day free and come along and have a good social and friendly outing of bowls. The Carnival of flowers will be held on Friday 16 th, Saturday 17 th and Sunday 18 th September Nominations Close Thursday 8 th September Nominations to: Mrs D Crust Mr K Kajewski Mr J Robb 5 Eton St 36 Hazel St 36 Glenvale Rd Toowoomba 4350 Toowoomba 4350 Toowoomba 4350 Ph: Ph: Ph: Mob:

5 they had no faults at all. LOCKYER INDOOR BOWLS ASSOCIATION With this dreadful flood disaster in the Lockyer Valley. The Lockyer Association has not been able to hold their AGM as set out, on account of members not being able to attend and halls were being used for accommodation and food drop off centres. Our AGM is now set down for February 2 nd. Publicity Officer Coral Kommholz A few jokes by Coral. Several men were in a Gym locker room when a mobile phone on a bench rings and one fellow puts it on speaker phone and begins to talk, so everyone stops to listen. The chappie says hello, the woman says Honey. it s me. I just found a beautiful leather coat, it s only $1,000 is it ok if I buy it. The chappie says sure it s OK. She then says I also stopped at a car dealer shop and saw the latest BMW for $80,000 so he said, yes, love you can also buy it, she then goes on to say I got a call from the Real Estate, you know that house we looked at a year ago is for sale at $950,000. I know it s a lot of money but it s so Beautiful so he told her to make an offer of $900,000 and see what they say, she said OK, Darling I ll see you later. I love you he said. Love you too Bye. The chappie hangs up the phone, the others in the locker room are astounded as he asks, Does anyone know who the mobile belongs to? Q. What happened to the guy who went to the seafood disco? A. He pulled a muscle. Q. Why do bees have sticky hair? A Because they use Honeycombs CABOOLTURE INDOOR BOWLS CLUB INC Hope everyone has had an enjoyable Christmas and Happy New Year and are all refreshed for a new year of bowls. As yet we have not held our AGM which has been deferred until Friday 5 th February. Our Friday night bowls has commenced and our first Association competition night will be Wednesday 23 rd February. This year we will be commencing our competitions with Ladies and Gents Pairs instead of Open Fours. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected by the floods, especially those who have lost everything including loved ones. Margaret Heckelmann Secretary. A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?" Father replied, "I don't know son, I'm still paying."
6 CALOUNDRA INDOOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION INC Happy New Year to all bowlers. Well Queensland has had a bad start to the year with all the floods but I do hope that not too many of you have been affected and if so that you will soon be able to get your lives back on track. Caloundra had a good year last year and finished off with our Christmas Weekend of bowls which was a great success. Our Presentation Night and Christmas party was a great success and the new entertainment was very enjoyable despite having to perform at our level as the floor was being resurfaced and we were unable to use the stage. We have only just started back to bowls and our AGM will be held in a couple of weeks. Our dates for this year are as follows: Medley Day 27 th March 2011 Queens Birthday Weekend of Bowls 11, 12 & 13 June 2011 Christmas Weekend of Bowls 26 th & 27 th November Don t forget to put these dates in your diary and we look forward to seeing you there. 7 KALBER R.S.L. INDOOR BOWLS CLUB 50 TH ANNIVERSAY Held 29 th January 2011 held at the Kalbar School arts Bill Prenzler called the first meeting on the 19 th of January 1961when they actually started playing bowls.the R.S.L Bought a bowls mat for Seven Pounds Six Shilling and Four pence and a set of bowls for Fifteen Pounds by the 23 rd of February. That same year they bought another set of Bowls for Sixteen Pounds Twelve Shilling and Nine Pence. Then on the 16 th March 1964 they bought another mat for Thirty Two Pounds. Bill Prenzler of the R.S.L carried on the leadership until the 24 th March when the active members decided to form a committee. Those present at the meeting were Mr and Mrs Clarke, Mr and Mrs R Alcorn, Mr and Mrs M Lobegeiger, Mr and Mrs S West, Mrs B Radunz, Mr A Willy, Mr and Mrs A Martin and Mr J Hermann who chaired the meeting.mr R Alcon was elected President and his wife as Secretary and Mr S West as Treasurer. There have been a number of office bearers over the years.membership has been up and down over the years in the winter months of 1986 with only small numbers at the Kalbar Lutheran club and the Kalbar R.S.L club they decided to ask the Kalbar Lutheran club if they would play together with Kalbar R.S.L on alternate night in each others halls which they did for some months. So the two clubs have had a close association over many years which only seemed natural when the numbers in both clubs dropped that they should get together which we did in February 2009 when we joined the two clubs as one and decided to play as the Kalbar R.S.L.The Kalbar Lutheran men s Fellowship Indoor Bowls club started about the same time.august Dull and Bill Scholl met with Evan and Rex Roberts to learn all about this game of skill the first members were August Dull, Bill and Bertha Scholl, Herb and Dora Naumann, Les and Enid Muller, Neville and Joy Scholl, Bill Scholz, Les and Elsie Frieberg, Mary Rassmusen, Gorden and Valma Niebling, Aub Kruger. The club prospered for a few years then dropped for a time and over the last 15 years the club picked up again for a time until recently with work commitments most younger members couldn t play week nights and so it was necessary to join with the Kalbar R.S.L club We now have two Life members and 21 members including 8 young members and the hope of more new members in the future. We held our anniversary dinner at the Kalbar School of arts on Saturday night the 29 th January We had a very enjoyable evening with over 60 guests attended. Peter Prenzler Son of the founder of the club, attended and spoke of the earlier days of bowling.neville Scholl and Gordon Niebling foundation members of the Kalbar Lutheran Club spoke of their experiences as young members. Elizabeth Martin foundation member spoke of her association with the Club. Elizabeth Martin our oldest member and Caitlin Yarrow our youngest member cut our Anniversary cake. Our F.I.B.A President Pat Toohill and members from all our local Clubs attended. We played two games of bowls to end our celebrations. Winner were :- Jean Kassulke, Shirly Griffiths, Eric Regeling and Stirling Olive. Runner up :- Gwen Lowrey, Laurie Dwyer, Eric Behrendorff and Elaine Regeling Encouragement Award Betty Harper, Denise Sembach, Mona Stumer, Trevor Christensen The prizes were presented by our President Bob Falkenhagen.
