ACT Four s Finalists ACT Women s Fours 2013 Congratulations to our ACT Women s Fours Champions for 2013 After defeating a strong Tuggeranong Valley team on Saturday 26 th October, Jimmie, Mina, Lois, and Robyn went on to just defeat the young guns from Weston Creek after some very close ends with Robyn calling on all her get lucky cards to keep the team alive for the Semi-Final where they came through against the very strong Pat Hamilton team from Tuggeranong Valley on Sunday morning. In the Final, held on Sunday afternoon, the team found themselves up against a younger and perhaps keener team from City, lead by Lexie Webster. After a shocking start the Canberra ladies were always on the back foot until about the second last end when Robyn put down an on shot to try and keep the score close. Robyn not only took out the City s closest bowl to the Jack, but this then ricocheted and hit out City s second closest and Robyn s bowl then pushed City s third closest allowing the team to, after 4 The Women s Minor Triples was held at the Club on Friday 4 th October and from all accounts was a very successful day. There were players from many other Clubs who competed on the day but it was great to see so many of our own ladies entered too. The winners were the Queanbeyan Team of Val Cash, Fay Solway, and Penny Auld. Queanbeyan also took out 2 nd place with City coming 3 rd. On a number of ends when Ruth had up to three shots, Coral would somehow make the winning shot with her last bowl. This took a lot of concentration and it must be mentioned that a number of times during the match social players from adjoining rinks wandered onto the Finals rink to talk to the Marker. It was noted that this lapse in etiquette did cause some angst for the players. In the future please give the serious games and players the due respect that you would like to be shown if it was you in a Final. ACT Bowls Open Day On Saturday 19 October the club participated in the ACT Bowls Open Day to introduce new bowlers to the game. The idea was to have all the clubs open their doors to introduce both young and old to the club. With Pauline Trounson and Ken Stokes on the greens and Gayle Young providing sound advice from the bank we opened the greens between and 12.00noon. We attracted 4 participants to have a go at Try Bowls. All enjoyed the experience and it

3 appears that whilst we didn t break records in numbers we certainly achieved quality. We may have attracted 4 new members to the club. Ken has been following up with 2 of the bowlers and having introductory sessions on Saturday mornings. From the comments and feedback we had from the participants they enjoyed the friendly nature of our club and the helpful encouragement that was provided. 2 of the participants have been away up north but said they want to pursue bowls on their return. Since they are friends of Ken they better turn up!!!! He knows where they live... Thank You Ladies Past President Greg Pearson nominated the Ladies of Canberra Bowling Club for an award from ACT Sport and Recreation for their voluntary contribution to Canberra Bowling Club over a number of years. We were one of a number of sporting groups to receive this award and the presentation, at the Press Club, was attended by Jocelyn Jenvey and Helen Cody, who received the award on behalf of our Ladies. Well done everyone.. CBC Women s Bowls Program PLAY, SUBSTITUTE, OR FORFEIT. Ladies Minor Pairs 2013 start as soon as we have enough entries. Minor Consistency 2013 start 30 th October, finish by 20 th November. Please be aware that as the Draws have been completed you can view them on the webpage under Bowls Program on the top menu. It makes it hard to accommodate late entries. 45 Club returns. This is a fundraising effort to assist in raising funds. Cost is $20 for 10 weeks. Winning numbers are determined by the Tattslotto supplementary numbers drawn each Saturday night. Winners will receive $30 for first number and $10 for second number drawn. Please see Bev to enter. Bev s internet hasn t been working for the past 3 weeks. If you have sent anything to her during this time please resend. The Club 45 competition will start soon. As you are probably aware, this is the final raffle list. Since the green fees have been raised to $10 the Committee has decided to call it a day on the weekly raffle for one reason or another. Until all the raffle prizes, which members have contributed, have been exhausted a single lucky number will be drawn each Wednesday to finalise this part of our activities.

The meeting was very well attended after the Annual President vs Secretary Competition. I believe the President s Team won but maybe because they borrowed some of the Secretary s players. The weather couldn t have been worse. It was cold, windy and wet. But the attendees braved the weather and had a good time on the green and enjoyed afternoon tea and a catch up after.
