1 Is s u e 10 4 De c e m b e r 17, WITHOUT BIAS The final of the Men's Singles was played on Thursday 3rd December. The Men's Single finalists were previous winner Ken Ross and Robert Temple. This game saw some outstanding bowls by both players but Robert got the early break and was determined to not let up at any stage and finished up winning The scores do not reflect the closeness of the game, however, congratulations to Robert on a great win and also to Ken. Congratulations to an excellent match. by Roving Reporter. Photo Glenda Mullen Wednesday Triples RESUMES ON January 20th

3 W I T H OU T B I A S Pa g e 3 Christmas breakup party for Mid Week Pennant side Our number 2 side provided a gorgeous Christmas luncheon on Tuesday for our players and friendly opponents from Gladstone Park. In return Keilor players were each presented with a Christmas stubbie holder filled with chocolates. Christmas greetings were exchanged by each captain and it was pointed out that next month there is a Thursday match on January 28. Cecile Hecht took photos on the day of the happy players with the large variety of assorted food which was greatly appreciated. With the scores level at the break, our Side 2 went out and narrowly won on the day. On returning home with a win over St. Albans, our top side said they were also treated to a lovely Christmas lunch. Lorraine Henneken said our 3 Mid Week pennant sides are still well placed for a chance to reach the finals.

4 WITHOUT BIAS Page 4 Treasurer s half yearly report Figures have been compiled to 30/11/15 and as at that date we have incurred a small loss of $1,550. This was mainly due to expenditure of $11,937 on repairs and maintenance to floors, and also to a lesser extent, on the withdrawal of our 6th side. Barring unforeseen expenditure coming forward, I am hopeful that we will finish in a positive situation at the end of the financial year. Finally, I would like to wish all our members a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year and thanks for all your support. - Robert Milburn Treasurer KBC. Ph: Bob Scash Final of the Novice The Novice event, played on Thursday, was between James Tomelty and Colin Neilson. James started very well going to a 12 7 lead, however Colin very slowly fought back and took the lead and from there on gradually increased his lead to win the event Congratulations to both players on a very good match, which was superbly marked by Grand Poobah Allan Krell. Final of the Men s Pairs On the Friday saw the Final of the Men's Pairs. Unfortunately Nick Isergin could not take his place in the game due to medical advice so Neil Stephenson came in as a substitute and teamed up with Michael Isergin. Their opponents were Robert Temple and Bob Duddington. The match got under way with Robert and Bob taking the early lead but with sheer determination Michael and Neil fought back well and took the lead. Not to be out done Robert and Bob came back and led by 1 shot with 3 ends to play. Michael and Neil then equalled the score with 2 ends to play. The final two ends proved to be a disaster for Robert and Bob by dropping a 5 and a 2 and finally going down by 7. Congratulations to all players on an excellent final, (especially Nick) Your Roving Reporter ATOMIC 70 cc motorbike with auto gears, new tyres, runs well. $400 2 off 240 volt generators, 2200 watts (2kva) 4 stroke and run quiet. Run most power tools but will not run air compressors. TAURUS $250, CRAFT $200 Craft is the Model before changing name to Taurus. Final of the Ladies Pairs The Final of the Keilor Ladies Pairs Championship was played on Thursday, 3rd. December. The finalists were Maureen Sutton (S) and Julie Isergin (L) - verses Lorraine Henneken (S) and first year bowler Glenyse Batstone (L). Lorraine and Glenyse quickly jumped away to the lead with Maureen and Julie proving the adage that - holes are made for bowls. Their were great bowls played by all four players with Lorraine and Glenyse able to hold on to their lead until the end. Our No.1 green ran beautifully and the weather was perfect. All in all a great days bowling. Our Match Committee would encourage more bowlers to enter next season. These club events are yet another way to participate in bowls at Keilor. Mark the dates on your calendar for next season. 115 people expected at our Christmas Party on Friday

5 WITHOUT BIAS Page 5 MID-SEASON REVIEW The Board of Management met with both Mid-Week and Saturday selectors recently for a mid-season review. Some very interesting views were aired from both sides. Communication was one topic that was high on the list and whilst the selectors admitted that they have sometimes fallen short in this regard, it must also be remembered that they require feedback from the members about issues of concern or if clarification of decisions is required. The selectors will continue to advise members affected by selection week to week. Also the selectors are available to meet with any member to discuss any matters and hear any grievances. It is far more constructive to discuss concerns in this way than complain to all and sundry. Mid-Week Pennant sides are all middle of the ladder and holding their own. Unfortunately, Saturday Pennant has been decimated by illness and injury this season, so much so that we have had to withdraw the 6 th side. We will certainly look at ways to restore that next season. Another problem is we have the Thirds, Fourths and Fifths all in the same division, necessitating more travel than we would like for the Fifths. In all reality the Fifth side, who are winless at this stage, are facing relegation from Div.5 this season which will leave, at most, 2 sides in Div 5 next season. However, it is vital that the Third & Fourth sides stay where they are or hopefully gain promotion. The top side has mixed results, but has all but 2 games at home from now on. The second side has been high on the ladder most of the season and hopefully can continue to a finals appearance. It is vital for the future of KBC that the remainder of this season is well managed and to this end the selectors, with the total backing of the Board and Bowls Committee will select teams as they see fit for the overall benefit of the Keilor Bowls Club. So if you are shifted around it will be explained to you why and if not, please ask. We as a club can only achieve this if every -body buys in. Peter Livy Chairman Maureen Sutton President We have been lucky enough pick up a variety of functions leading up to Christmas. All of which helps with the running costs of the club. The birthdays have ranged from 2 years to 70. The biggest was a 50th for 135 (which included Barefoot Bowls) along with beautiful food and lovely people. Last Friday night we hosted The Melbourne Academy of Irish Dance. There were 140 excited parents and grandparents watching a wonderful display of Irish Dancing from the 60 boys and girls who performed with great skill the dancers that gained them 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings in the National Titles. Monday the 14th will see 150 young staff from various "McDonald" outlets enjoying a night away from the burgers and fries and tackers demanding more time in the play area. As a matter of interest "No Alcohol" was served at this event. Photos & Story by Maureen Sutton Functions play a big part in the upkeep of our Club and it is vitally important that we provide our excellent venue and hospitality to the outside community. If you know of anyone seeking a function please contact our Social Committee convener Maureen Sutton
