President s Report The 2016/2017 season was the clubs 131 th season and for the second year running the Premier team won the right to compete for the Pearce Cup. In total, the club fielded ten teams, (eight men s and two women s). In addition, there were over 220 junior players. Three grades were won, the Premier Girls T20 competition, the men s T 20 Division 2 competition by the Full Tossers and the one day grade (40 overs) by the Falcons. Once again special congratulations to Luke Ronchi, (who again didn t get to play a club game this season) who not only played for the Firebirds but again represented the Black Caps in ODI s and T20 s and played test cricket in India for the Black Caps. Also, former Johnsonville player Seth Rance made his Black Cap debut in May Similarly, former Johnsonville Women players Thamsyn Newton and Leigh Kasperek both got selected for the White Ferns in the 2016/2017 season, including the Women s Cricket World Cup. Michelle McKay (nee Bunkall) represented the CD Hinds. Congratulations also to Luke Woodcock who once again represented the Firebirds with distinction in all three formats of the game. During the season, he became the leading run scorer in first class cricket, finishing the season on 6701 runs, and has now played the most first class matches for Wellington. His performances during the season won him selection for the NZ A side to play Pakistan, unfortunately this fixture was rained out without a ball being bowled. Luke and partner Odele at the Cricket Wellington Prizegiving The Premier side under the leadership of Chris Leach, following Andrew Stirrat s transfer to Auckland for work, came third in both the Ewen Chatfield One Day Trophy and the Pearce Cup. Well done to Zac Ringrose for heading the wicket takers and to Rakitha Weerasundara for once again winning the batting Trophy. Scott Edgecombe deservedly won the Premier Men s Player of the year trophy.

Unfortunately, as a reflection of the current state of Women s cricket in Wellington we were unable to field a Senior Women s team this season. On a positive note the Premier Girls team won the Greg Carr cricketer of the year trophy Club stalwart, Scott Mudgway won the Allan Brider Trophy for the most dedicated club member. New recruit Gareth Severin won the most Outstanding Player under 20 award. Thanks again to Julian and the Committee for their contributions throughout the year. Once again, we need to recognise the outstanding efforts of Rick Mudgway. The club simply wouldn t function without Rick s efforts and dedication to the cause. I expect the continuing involvement of Ivan Tissera in a coaching role will assist Rick and hopefully see the club and the Premier team in particular continue its progress of the last few seasons. It s important that we remain a strong Pearce Cup club if cricket is going to thrive in the area. It was a privilege to see Rick Mudgway speak to the nomination of Cheryl Styles as a Vice President of Cricket Wellington at the last AGM of Cricket Wellington last October. Cheryl scored her 35th test match in March 2017 when the South Africans were in town. Of course in 2014 Cheryl was accorded the honour of becoming the first woman elected as a Life Member of our Club. Thanks also to Gail Mudgway for controlling financial matters in such an efficient manner and Cheryl Styles for her secretarial and scoring services. Indeed, the club was honoured to have both Cheryl and Jeff Stuart scoring International fixtures during the season, which must be some sort of record To all of the other committee members, award winners and people who contributed during the season thanks as well. 10 Chairman s Report Another season has come and gone. Thank you to the committee and coaches for all their hard work throughout the year. We desperately need fresh personnel on the club committee. The call goes out yet again to members to step up, have their say and do their part in the running of their club. Of particular note, we need fresh energy and drive in the Chair s seat, a Junior convenor, and one or two people to bring back a vibrant club and social life for our members. Sponsorships and grants Devon and Patterson completed their sixth year as major sponsor of the club. This remains a year to year proposition that we hope will continue for the foreseeable future. Thank you to the myriad of local businesses who provide their support to our junior teams. Please visit the club website for the details of these very generous and supportive businesses. As always, we encourage our extensive JCC family to support all sponsors where they can. The Club could not achieve what it does without the generous support of sponsors and grant agencies. During the past season we receive support from New Zealand Community Trust, The Trusts Community Foundation Limited, Hutt Mana Charitable Trust, Pelorus Trust, Pub Charity, Johnsonville Club and the Infinity Foundation. Their generous financial support allowed us to buy new equipment, provide quality coaching for our members and subsidise activities such as the annual junior pilgrimage to the Hawkes Bay tournament. On field For the 2016/17 season, the club entered 10 senior teams, 1 youth team, and registered about 224 junior players, and ran the (junior) Superstar Academy. Congratulations to all teams and individuals for their achievements during the season. The following results deserve special mention: - The Senior Premier Men again earned a place in the top six and therefore qualified to compete for the Pearce Cup in the second half of the season, finishing third overall; - The Premier Girls won the T-20 competition. They also made the 30 over competition final having won all their games. Sadly they lost the final; - The men s 40 over division one Falcons won their grade!; - The men s T-20 division two Full Tossers again won their grade!

The Club is also particularly proud of the following individual successes: - Luke Ronchi, Wgtn Firebirds and Black Caps; - Luke Woodcock, Wgtn Firebirds and NZ XI; - Anurag Verma, Wgtn Firebirds; - Rakitha Weerasundara, Wellington City; - Michelle McKay, CD Hinds - Vishi Jeet, Wgtn A - Gareth Severin, Wgtn Under 17; - Haydon Smith, Wgtn Under 17; - Devan Vishvaka, Wgtn Under 17; - Ollie Preston, Wgtn Under 18; - Xara Jetly, Wgtn Under 18 and Wgtn Under 15; - Jeneesha Maisuria, Wgtn Under 15; - Rosa Tse, Wgtn Under 15; - Rachael Lockhart, Wgtn Development Girls; - Zoe Wishnowsky, Wgtn Development Girls; - Nakita Decruy, Wairarapa Under 18 Girls. Congratulations also to junior cricketers selected for Wellington Representative Teams and for age grade Cricket Wellington tournaments. Congratulations to all players whose performances were worthy of the honours board: Centuries - Rob Sayer, Rakitha Weerasundara, Ollie Powdrell and Matthew Horwell. - In T-20 grades: Eddie Burnett and Hayden Flett. 7 wickets or more none unfortunately. 12 Club development, administration and coaching The 2016/17 season was the club s fifth year as a Premier Club under Cricket Wellington s one club model. This provided some of the funding needed for our Club Development Officer ( CDO ) who again completed and organised a variety of development activities within our catchment area as well as specifically for our club members. Funded independently of the one club program, Ivan Tissera completed his first year as the Premier Men s Coach. As well as attracting additional talented players, Ivan has brought with him a passion and commitment that has ultimately, I believe, led to improved premier results (on the previous season). We will shortly look to engage Ivan for another season. Our approach to these two positions has differed from that taken by some other Wellington clubs. In particular, we have split club administration from coaching of the Premier sides. Our CDO has mainly focused on club administration, recruitment and retention, and facilitation of junior coaching. Most other clubs have asked their CDO to do both roles. Invariably this had led to either club administration or coaching suffering, objectives not being met and / or less being achieved than hoped. We have been fortunate to have the same person in the CDO role since inception of the one club program. This has provided consistency of program delivery year to year as well as continually strengthening relationships with members and the community. Many other clubs have changed their CDO annually or biannually and have not benefited as we have. Financials As detailed in the accompanying financial statements, the club made a small surplus for the year. Subscription income was up due to a dramatically improved collection rate; particularly benefiting from an improved junior registration system. Grant income was significantly up on the prior year with the extra primarily funding coaching. The club remains heavily reliant on grants to avoid erosion of our cash position. Any significant expenditure on the Clubrooms continues to be deferred awaiting the building of the new communal facility. This deferral decision may have to be reviewed in short time if the building of the new facility does not get underway soon. Thank you to Matthew Judge for again completing the annual audit of the club s financial statements. Julian Allen Chairman

Junior Section Report Despite popular opinion that junior playing numbers may decrease following the previous year s hike after the 2015 Cricket World Cup the junior section numbers held up remarkably well and in fact showed a slight increase which is a testament to all of the good work our coaches and support personnel provide. The Club introduced a new database management system for this season and the results in terms of subscriptions collected showed a huge improvement on previous income from this source. With only a slight increase in both subscription levels as well as playing numbers income from subscriptions increased on the previous year by nearly $3000. With the able assistance of Geoff Walker we were able to place players generally in teams which they wanted to be in and this process was much easier and significantly less messy than what occurred the previous season. We trust that we were able to satisfy most people s requirements. New Zealand Cricket introduced new online coaching courses at the Foundation and Advanced Foundation level. In excess of 80% of our coaches partook in upskilling themselves to a level commensurate with the age and aspirations of the children they were coaching. We will continue to work to increase this uptake with the ultimate aim of having 100% of our coaches having undertaken some form of coaching course to assist the children to improve their skill levels. Also we urged our coaches to undertake a Police Vetting enquiry as well as attend a First Aid course designed to assist them to deal with children who may be injured during a game or take ill. We are ahead of the rest of the clubs in Wellington on these points and it will soon be compulsory for all coaches to have undertaken the 3 items outlined above. Certainly as a Club we will endeavour to strictly enforce that coaches take a course before they are asked to coach a team. As part of our review from this season we will have expert coaches come in and run a training session for a variety of ages so that coaches know what skills/ drills to impart on their young charges. An organised and upbeat coach will ensure that children return to the game year after year as opposed to someone who is just their for the sake of it. The Club entered 21 teams into the various Cricket Wellington age grades. We were strong at Year 2 and Year 5 age groups but again could always do with more players at the other age groups. Some special highlights of the year are noted below: The Junior Premier team again won the final year of the Junior Premier grade and again a well done to all of the players Coaches Mike Gilchrist and Cobus Nel, pictured, signed off from their junior involvement again being part of the coaching team that won this grade. Martin Seddon also assisted but as he has a young daughter still coming through we trust Martin will continue to be involved for a little while yet.

Players and teams represented the Club with distinction at the Hawkes Bay tournaments with teams from Year 5, Year 6 and Year 8 attending. 6 players from the club were part of the unbeaten Northern Zone Year 8 Team-Matthew Nel, Jayden Gilchrist, Elliot Seddon, Daniel Stevens, Kevin Weerasundara and Anthony Kendrew Rohit Gupthe was named Year 7 MVP Daniel Stevens, Kevin Weerasundara, Matthew Nel, Elliot Seddon and Anthony Stevens were selected into either the Year Wellington Development Gold or Black team Daniel, Matthew and Elliot were part of the Gold team that beat the Black team in the final of the North Island Year 8 Development tournament held in the Hawkes Bay in late January. Some 28 children enrolled for the Churton Park New World Superstar Academy, an almost 50% increase on the previous year. The Charlie Temel Trophy was awarded this year to Navin Tharshan Another successful end of season Awards day was held at Alex Moore on the Sunday after the last game for the season The Club regained the Stew Cater Super Star Academy players on display at the Stadium Memorial Trophy beating Hutt districts in the final. Another Skills Day was held at the Club and run by Premier players but turnout was very poor making us question the merit of running another similar event. This season saw Cricket Wellington with the backing of most club s abolish the Junior Colts and Premier grades. This was generally well received and was designed to keep children playing with their friends for longer. Research had shown that at Years 6 and 7 there was marked player drop off as some players got selected into those teams and others didn t which led to some of those others opting out of the game. Personally I support the move as years of experience has shown me that certain parents are in the game for the wrong reasons and pushing their children to be Black Caps at age 11 is not always the best thing for the child despite parents thinking otherwise. The section could not operate without the assistance of all of the coaches, scorers, team managers, Mums, Dads and caregivers as well as our dedicated band of coaches. Thank you all. And of course without our youngsters the game will wither and die so we thank them for keeping on coming back!! Lastly a huge thanks to our Committee-Martin Seddon, Geoff Walker, Ben Reddiex, Nick Urlich and Duncan Horton. We have already recruited Ruth Stephen, Akash Sood and Leigh Woodcock to assist as we lose Duncan and Ben at the end of this season as their youngsters are off to College. And finally a big thankyou to Julie Walker who was co-opted to facilitate junior team sponsors. With Julie s assistance we were able to have 13 of our teams sponsored. Our aim for the following season is to have all our team sponsored. Rick Mudgway Acting Junior Convenor

Team Reports Premier Men The 2016/17 season began with a change in a few key personnel. Ivan Tissera took over as club coach from Michael Parlane who left us after 2 seasons, moving out of town to be with family, and Chris Leach replacing Andrew Stirrat as captain, who also had a change in location to further his off field career. This year saw us lose the services of both Andrew Stirrat & Scott Borthwick who returned to the UK. We were fortunate enough to once again secure the services of an overseas county professional, this time in the form of former England U-19 and current Leicestershire player Rob Sayer. Other additions to the team this year included Gareth Severin (Hutt Districts), Vishi Jeet (Auckland), Anurag Verma (Karori), Sam Outtrim (everywhere), Hayden Smith (Newlands College) & Hashan Goonetilleke (Sri Lanka). This year s preseason saw the guys working hard in the nets for 8 weeks before a preseason hit out in Levin against Weraroa. Following this, a squad of 13 travelled to Blenheim. The weather gods weren t kind to us on this trip, and it was a sign of things to come. Even with all the weather around we managed to get a 1 day match in on the Saturday, which allowed for some valuable time in the middle for all the guys. A huge thank you to the club and in particular Rick for organising this trip. Upon returning from Blenheim, we had one more preseason hit out against Upper Hutt before moving into the 1day competition. After finishing 2 nd and 4 th over the previous 2 seasons, we set ourselves the goal of once again finishing in the top 6 and in search of the opportunity to compete in the 1day final. Our season began on the 15 th of October with a double header against Easts and the Wellington U-19s. Saturday s match against Easts was a wash out without a ball being bowled. We moved onto Sunday against the U-19s and after a delayed start, managed to get underway in a 33 over match. This was a great start to the season for us chasing down 130 to win by 8 wickets and get our campaign underway, Raki, Shameera & Woody all making 30s. The next few games saw us have wins against Petone, University and Upper Hutt. These games all followed a similar trend. All the bowlers did great jobs in restricting the opposition to low totals. We managed to chase these all down, but it wasn t without a few tense moments, or many wickets left in hand. Highlights from these games included Verma taking 4-24 against Petone and Sayer taking 3-9 off 9 overs against Upper Hutt. November had a tough draw in store for us, taking on Hutt Districts, Taita & Karori. Hoping to build on a solid start to the season being unbeaten we had another washout against Hutt Districts, before being outplayed by Taita for our first loss of the season. Our match against Karori on the 26 th of November saw us finally moving onto grass, a sign of just how bad the weather had been early in the season. We were unable to chase 205 down in 47 overs, coming agonizingly close, losing by 10 runs. Premier Men taking the field against Easts The final 3 games before the Christmas break had us away to Collegians and back at home to finish off the year against Onslow & Naenae. Against Collegians the bowlers had a fantastic day with all the bowlers picking up a couple wickets each to restrict Collegians to 114 in 40 overs. We managed to chase this down in 20 overs for a great win by 7 wickets, mainly thanks to 49* by Scott Mudgway. Our match

against Onslow saw us get off to a solid start to be 81/1 off 18 overs before the weather gods joined us once again and saw the match being abandoned. Finishing off against Naenae the bowlers once again had a great day out, dismissing Naenae for 113, with Vishi Jeet taking 4-7 off 7, a win by 6 wickets. We farewelled the leader of our pace attack, David Hudson, who took off at the end of December for a work placement in Canada. The 14 th of January saw us play our final 1day match against North City. The win against Naenae saw us secure a top 6 position and be guaranteed a place in the Pearce Cup for the 3 rd year in a row, but unfortunately we hadn t secured enough bonus points earlier in the season and were not able to challenge for a place in the top 2. This being said, with all our 1day points carrying over to the 2day competition, we still knew it was an important match for later in the season. North City managed to put together a few good partnerships to set us 247 for victory. We lost an early wicket but Leach (71) and Weerasundara (113*) combined for 140 before Rob Sayer came in to finish things off, hitting better than a run a ball 51 for a 8 wicket win. This was by far our most complete batting performance and was a good sign leading into the 2day Pearce Cup competition. We finished 3 rd in the 1day competition with 7 wins, 2 losses and 3 rained out games. There were plenty of fantastic contributions from all the team at stages throughout the 1day competition, but the top performers saw Rakitha lead the batting stats scoring the only 100 of the competition for us and averaging close to 40. We were lucky enough to have the services of Verma for the majority of our 1day campaign who led our bowling stats with 18 wickets at an average of just over 12. The start of the Pearce Cup 2 day competition saw us away against eventual finalist, Easts. We knew this would be a good test against one of the more successful teams in the competition. This game also saw the return of the prodigal son, Sam Outtrim, having re-joined us from a fairly long sabbatical. Things didn t get off to a great start, Easts raced out to 90/0 in 20 overs before the bowlers dominated the next 30 overs, bowling Easts out for 151, with Outtrim taking 4-25 from 10 overs. We got through 20 overs to be 60/3 before the rain set in for a premature end to the day. Coming back needing 90 runs to take 1 st innings points, we had a disappointing morning with Easts managing to pick up 7 wickets in 20 overs to dismiss us for 100. Rakitha the pick of the innings with a well-made 47. Easts came out and looked to attack and try to set up a possible result. By the time the declaration came the equation was 256 from 50 overs. We decided we would give this a nudge as was the belief we had in the side this year. We got off to a solid start to be 71/3 after 15 overs with both Rob & Raki making it into the 30s. Unfortunately a middle order wobble saw us reduced to 94/6 in the 25 th over and it was now time to switch to survival mode. Scott Edgecombe batting at 7 showed what we all know he can do with the bat, making a superb 66 not out. The game ended in a draw, first innings loss, but showed the fight the team had to hang in there on day 2. Left Scott Mudgway receiving an award from Alan Isaac for playing 200 games for the Club Right Chris Leach also receiving an award from Alan Isaac for playing 100 games for the Club.

Game 2 of the competition saw us host Karori. The bowlers had a great day on day 1 bowling Karori out for 169 with the standout figures coming from Zac Ringrose 5-61 and Scott Edgecombe We were in a lot of trouble early on in our 1 st innings being reduced to 3/4 in the 3 rd over. Leach & Mudgway combined to rebuild the innings putting on 73 to recover to 80/5. Mudgway carried on batting superbly with the tail to get us within a sniff of first innings points. We ended up being bowled out for 160 with Mudgway making a fantastic 95. Unfortunately we couldn t repeat our 1 st innings bowling performance with Karori managing to make 247. In a game that probably cost us a place in finishing 2 nd, we were dismissed for 134 in 34 overs, Karori taking the outright win which included a valuable 10 points for them. With rain washing out all of the 1 st day in round 3, this resulted in a 1day game against Upper Hutt. Upper Hutt set us 273 for victory with the majority of their runs coming from 2 of their Wellington players. Ringrose was again the pick of the bowlers with figures of We weren t able to chase this down being dismissed for 246 with runs coming from Leach (43), Raki (35) & Hashan (93). After a few below par batting performances costing us after being in strong positions we were out at Fraser Park taking on Taita. This saw us put together our most complete 2 day batting innings making 260 off 89 overs. This was largely thanks to a 151 run partnership for the 7 th wicket between Rob Sayer & Vishi Jeet. Rob scored his 1 st and the teams 2 nd hundred of the season making 124, with Vishi playing a great supporting role making 56. These two showed immense patience and was a real lesson in how to construct a 2day innings. With 13 overs left in the day we were able to reduce Taita to 67/3, however unfortunately the Wellington weather returned on day 2 and play was abandoned without a ball being bowled. The final and most exciting game of the season saw us at home against Hutt Districts. We started well getting through to a patient 80/3 off 30 overs before we were quickly reduced to 94/7 at lunch on day 1. Gareth Severin batted very well with the lower order making 37* to get us through to a decent total of 171 from 69 overs, Shameera also making 37 at the top of the order. Zac Ringrose came out fired up picking up a wicket 1 st ball of the innings and also another with his 5 th ball to have Hutt 2 down in the 1 st over. Hutt managed a few small partnerships to rebuild their innings to 50/4 before Scott Edgecombe ripped through their bottom order to have figures of 5/14 from 13 overs and Hutt being dismissed for 105 giving us a 1 st innings win and lead of 66. This game had it all and as we had struggled many times this season with the bat, we were dismissed in only 19 overs for 55, leaving Hutt requiring 122 runs for a victory. One thing that showed throughout the season was the belief within the group. We knew if we could pick up a few early wickets we were more than capable of winning this game. Hutt got off to a reasonable start however and got themselves into a position at 84/5 where they needed 34 with 5 wickets in hand. In one of the greatest bowling partnerships I ve witnessed Edgecombe and Ringrose combined to bowl Hutt out for 100. Both bowlers taking 5 wickets, Ringrose with 5-38 from 15 overs and Edgecombe 5-24 also off 15 overs. This was fantastic way to end the season with an outright win. This year I was pleased with how we competed in the 2day competition, showing that we can match it with any team in the grade and are not far away. We finished 3 rd in the Pearce Cup points behind 2 nd place. Highlights for the 2day competition included Rob s 100 against Taita as well as Edgecombe finishing as the top bowler in the grade with and Ringrose not far behind in 4 th with This season had it all. We put ourselves in some very strong positions to win games but unfortunately weren t able to get over the line a couple of times. I have no doubt that this season will do wonders for us going forward and am already looking forward to the 2017/18 season. Raki had another great season taking out the batting award with 466 runs, Ringrose leading the bowlers with 32 wickets and Edgecombe picking up the MVP for the year with his all-round outstanding performances. Other notable

achievements this season saw Chris Leach play his 100 th game for the Premier Men s team and Scott Mudgway with an outstanding achievement playing his 200 th. A special mention must go to all of those that put in the hours behind the scenes to make sure not only the Premier Men s team is successful, but also the club, none of what we are able to do on the field could be possible without these people. We are certainly grateful of the efforts of Rick, Cheryl & Jeffy. Result - Lost At this stage the club captain (Rick Mudgway) and the Head Coach (Ivan Tissera) changed the team dynamics and decided to appoint me (Rajiv) as the Captain of the Reserves Team, which at that time I reluctantly accepted since I was a fresher for the club. With my captaincy and the support from the senior members and the team collectively we managed to turn our season around. Round 8 We hosted Wellington Collegians batting first and scored 257 for 8 and then bowled them for Result - Won Round 9 Playing Onslow at Nairnville Park the game only lasted 18 overs and rain came to the party and match was abandoned. Round 10 We travelled to Naenae on a under prepared wicket which we had to bat first on and got bowled out for 89, Sam Millmow scored 24. However, we got Naenae all out for 73 and Sam Outtrim again bowled well got 4 for 12 and Tom Eathorne 3 for 17. Result - Won At the end of the Premier Reserve one day competition we finished 8 th and ended up playing Premier Reserve (Division 2) 2 day Competition.

Round 1 JCC Vs North City, we batted first and finished the 1 st innings 244 with notable contributions Jagdeep continuing his form with 63, Vignesh 49, Charming 26 not out, Rushmin 23 and Karan 21. We bowled North City for 236 and Ben took 4 for 54. In the second innings we ended up 38 for 1 at the close of play. Result Won first innings Round 2 JCC Vs Upper Hutt at TMP, Upper Hutt batted first and finished their innings all out for 102 with Dom 5 for 42, Hayden 3 for 27 and Ashvin 2 for 27. We managed pass there score and all out for 112. Jagdeep and Ben scored 27 and 21 respectively. In the second innings with brilliant fielding and good bowling we bowled them for 69 and Ashwin again took 4 for 22, Hayden and Rushmin took 2 each. Target was 60 and we managed to get that with 6 wickets in hand, Matt batted well was 21 unbeaten. Result Won Outright Round 3 JCC Vs Hutt Districts at Hutt Rec the first day was washed out. Second day we bowled Hutt districts for 85, we batted with lots of confidence finished 86 for 4. Result Won first innings Round 4 JCC Vs Naenae at Naenae Park, again we continued our bowling form bowled Naenae for low score of 69. Outstanding bowling performance by Michelle and Rushmin taking 4 wickets each. We batted well and got 151, Gareth came down from Premier team and batted well with me to put a 100-run partnership and we ended up getting 55 & 48 respectively. On the same day, we managed to get 5 more wickets of Naenae for a measly 28 runs. We were heading for another outright win unfortunately the second day got rained off. Result Won First innings Round 5 JCC Vs Petone Eastbourne at Petone Rec. We won the toss and made Petone bat. I was away for the first day and Michelle Bunkall captain the side. They were 131/7 and due to some poor fielding they ended up 190, Dom and Michelle took 3 wickets each. We got all out for 124 and Ollie scored 34 and Dom contributed with the bat by scoring 23. They declared their second innings after scoring 118 for 9 and setting us a target of 185 to win. We scored 186 for 9 Jagdeep scoring his carrier best for Johnsonville with 85 not out, Chris 22, Dom 21 and Michelle 17. Result Won Outright Summary Unfortunately, due to the initial losses in the first half of the season we had to play in division II Reserve grade in the two-day competition. Nevertheless, we started to play better as a team which was essential to our success finishing 2 nd in the competition. In my view, the biggest issue throughout has been a lack of application in batting. Jagdeep managed to perform well with his un-orthodox playing style scoring consistently and ended up being the no 4 batsman in the competition. We had Michelle Bunkall, Ashvin Muthumala, Dominic McAlister and Rushmin Batuwantudawe in the top 10 bowling performances in the competition.

Although Dominic, Charming, Tom, Haydon, Sam and myself got a chance to play a few games each in the Premier team, there were no standout performances from the Reserves to consolidate any spots in the top team. From a coaching/training perspective, it would have been good to have consistent guidance from the Coach throughout our training sessions, however due to the large numbers at training and primary focus mainly being on the Premier team, it was difficult for the Coach to handle both teams. Hopefully this is a situation we can improve for the next season especially with regards to batting! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rick, Ivan and the management team for all the support given and the hard work they put into make everything possible for us! A big thank you to the players of the Reserve team for all their efforts to finish off the season on a high note! Looking forward to the next season already! 22 3 rd XI 2 nd Grade To Start off thanks for the opportunity given by the club management and especially yourself and allowing me to contribute, build and lead the team in tough times. We didn't have players to start the season and I personally didn't want to give up the club contribution towards the Wellington cricket and enabled myself to build a team and participate in all the games without any default to opposition clubs. Given the limited sources we had, I can proudly say we have found 5-6 committed players and improved performances for the club in this season which might help in planning going forward. Our performances in one day games were below par compared to other teams and we fought ourselves back in two day games. Thanks to notable contributions from Oli Powdrell in batting and Josna in the bowling departments. There were couple of good performances from Sasi and Kalyan in the season which I can see as a potential built up for next season. We had issues of notable club players showing disinterest in coming and play as a team for us and excel them to next grades. This has costed us few games which is not acceptable. I would like make my point clear we will not have such players in this team going forward instead we accept that we are building our team and we will surely come out with better performances coming seasons. I sincerely thank you as a person trying your best to correct the personalities involved and I am sure we will rebuild a strong team very soon. Again- I have enjoyed being part of this rebuilding exercise and happy to contribute the same way coming season also. Thanks to the club and looking forward to good season this year. 23 Bandits 4th Grade As everyone would have experienced, the weather had a major impact on the season from start to finish for the Bandits. We seemed to have been especially cursed, with rain following us where ever we played in the first half of the season, being regularly rained off while games took place at other locations around Wellington. We had a couple of new faces join the Bandits squad for the new season with Dan Smith joining us from Australia and Noel Leana from Papua New Guinea, we re a multicultural bunch! Our one day competition finally got underway with a good win against one of the many Easts teams Bulldogs, on the 5 th of November, Noel picking up 3 wickets on debut and Mihir scoring his maiden 50. That was the sum total of the pre-christmas part of the one day comp 1 game played, 4 rained off. We then moved on to the two day competition starting off playing the same Easts side from the one dayer. Sadly they took the honours in a low scoring match on a difficult track, our bowlers kept them under 150 in both innings but we weren t able to exert any control with the bat. Conceding 1 st innings points and then failing to chase down 200 in the 4 th innings for a losing draw. We followed up with a much improved effort against Wainuiomata, bowling them out for 105 in 27 overs with Al picking up 5 for, we responded with 170 for 7 declared. Noel top scoring but letting himself down by gifting his wicket a run short of his 1 st 50 for the club. Wainui s second innings isn t much better than their first and at stumps they are 36 runs ahead with 5 wickets remaining. With an outright win beckoning, day two is rained off without a ball being bowled. After Christmas the one day comp resumes and we suffer a narrow loss by 21 runs chasing 217 against Easts Aces, Dan top scoring with 71. All out with 4 overs remaining, if only. We follow that up taking on Collegians who sit at the top of the table, an outstanding bowling effort from the entire attack frustrates out a very strong batting line up for 158 in 32.3 overs. Phil snaffling 3 wickets with his slowest of slower balls. The run chase starts out as a hard grind, at the 25 over mark we re 85 for 5 and the game in the balance until Shaun and Al put together a 53 run partnership to break the back of the chase, Al top scoring with 34. That ended the one day competition with a very congested table given the few games played, we finish 3 rd equal alongside two other teams. Two day cricket resumed against Sri Lankan Sports club, we asked they bat first and bowled them out for 97. Vignesh picking up 4 for 26, supported by Bruce with a ridiculous 3 for 5. On a difficult track we responded with 147, with thanks to 78 from Noel and Al s 39. Sri Lanka s 2 nd innings went even better than the first for us. All out for 80 with Vignesh taking 6 wickets to have 10 for the match. Needing 30 to win Dan and Mihir took us there for a 10 wicket win. We moved on to Easts The Bats, on a damp track the toss was won again and again we invited them to bat first. Despite playing with only 9 men and a 6/1 off side field we kept the runs in check and bowled them out for 206. Vignesh taking 4 for 32 and Bruce again helping out with 3 for down equaled all out, we were 101 at that point in one of our less memorable batting displays, old man Ingoe top scoring with 18 illustrating the point. Vignesh followed up with 6 for 53 and was instrumental in bowling The Bats out for 156 in their 2nd innings and taking 10 wickets in the match for the second match in a row. Needing 261 to win we started well but fell away under pressure to be all out for 133 and a loss by 128 runs. Following that sobering experience we bounce back against Collegians Axemen, again winning the toss, batting first and rack up 241 with thanks to Matt s 118 and Al s 45 not out. On the stroke of stumps we bowl them out for 151, Vignesh again leading the way with 4 for 40 with Bruce again chipping in with 3 wickets. We were disappointed not to have bowled them out under the follow on mark but were well placed to take command of the match on the second day. Sadly our old friend the weather joined us for day two to put the outfield under water and no chance of play. Having done enough to ensure we sat mid table in Division 4 we defaulted our last game of the season so that 6 of our stronger players could turn out for the 3 rd XI in division 2 to hopefully help them avoid relegation. Whilst we completed with the ball (Al picked up 4 for 46, while Bruce and Matt grabbed a

wicket each) we were found wanting with the bat against a ball with prodigious movement at pace. An innings defeat ensued, but it did open our eyes to what s expected at a higher level and that perhaps some of us have been coasting a little in Division 4. Highlights of the season were Mihir scoring his first Johnsonville 50, made amusing and more memorable by his trying to take a second run and running himself out. So rather than being able to celebrate a milestone and raise his bat he was instead trudging off the field throwing his gloves, kicking his helmet and swearing at himself; Matt s first ever century, completely dominating the attack with a strike rate of 161 and hitting 21 fours and 3 sixes; and Vignesh after bowling like a dream prior to Christmas with little reward having the floodgates open with two 10 for s in consecutive matches. The team s award winners for the season were: Dan White Batting award for Bandits and Lower 2 day grade batting trophy (247 runs at 35.29) Vignesh Srinivasan Bowling award for Bandits and Lower grade Bowling trophy (31 wickets at 8.74) Al Mainwaring Most valuable player award (18 wickets at and 146 runs at 24.33) Bruce Ingoe (Bingo) Bandits Manager / Player Batsman of the Year 2 Day Lower Grade George Halliday Trophy, Bandits Best Batsman Daniel White Bandits Most Valuable Player Alistair Mainwaring

T20 Division 1 Young Guns After a very difficult first season the Guns worked extremely hard with bolstering the squad s numbers. With the return from injury of Matthew Judge and a few key new faces in Shane Thomas and Tayne Falconer the squad was much improved leading to a final. The new faces and numbers made an immediate impact to the team and allowed the Young Guns Management to select a very competitive side week in week out. The usual suspects performed well all season, Jason and Rory Anquetil were at the fore in all games as was Blair Hannah and Leigh Woodcock. Duane Abel and Jaron Crozier picked up their fair of overs bowled. Unfortunately for the Gun s, wides and some substandard fielding/catching hampered their ability to restrict teams and chase much smaller totals than they should have. With all this the Guns went onto make the Premier 1 Men s final at the Basin Reserve. A huge day for the boys and a highlight for many was simply taking in the ground and having a chance to play on the hallowed turf. Word has it that a certain member of the Gun s was only clothed during his time on the field and was to Rick s dismay, showering the rest of the time within the Changing Rooms at the Basin. Young Guns at the Basin A terrific season all round, always playing with plenty of laughs and of course some friendly banter with most opposition teams! Here s to go 1 better in 2017/18! 26 T20 Division 2 Full Tossers The 2016/17 cricket season was a major success for the Johnsonville Full Tossers. Having won the 20/20 Division 2 title the previous season, the team lost 3 of that seasons major contributors. With a few new faces, including some that had never played before, and others that had not played for a number of years, the team set about playing and enjoying the season. One of the aims this season was to make sure that every subs paying player got a fair opportunity to bat or bowl each game, even if that came at the expense of competition points. Fortunately for the team, all players were involved throughout the season and we remained competitive. After winning our grading games, we were placed in Division 1, which we felt would be too unfair on the players who were only just returning to the game, or those that had not played before. With the help of Rick, we were placed in Division 2 which we felt would be more reflective of the level we were at. From that point we continued to pick wins up. For the most part the games were competitive, and could have gone either way. The games gave us the opportunity to let everyone have a good go at batting or bowling, and the new guys to cricket really enjoyed their first season. We were pulled through by some stellar individual performances, with a couple of centuries to batsmen, including a knock of 103 to help us chase down 247 against the other top of the table team who were at that stage also unbeaten, and a few 4 or 5 wicket bags to the bowlers giving us the upper hand in games that were close. We finished the season undefeated which was a major achievement for us. Losing the calibre of players we lost, and replacing them with guys who have little or no experience was going to be difficult, however we managed to find ways to win even when we would not have been favoured to do so. It was pleasing to be able to involve guys who have been playing for years, but more for the social aspect than the sporting side of the game, and I believe the players enjoyed the season much more by being actively involved and given a good chance to participate in each game we played. We found the organisation for the majority of the season to be great. It was clear who we were playing and when, and any transfers or defaults were communicated to us in a timely fashion. One area that was difficult for us was the end of the season, when it was unclear what date the season would be finished. As the Cricket Wellington website had all dates and fixtures filled in until the start of March, the team assumed that the season would be finished then. At the end of the season games kept being added for the following week on a Thursday or Friday, it became difficult to organise the team as players had booked holidays or had other commitments for the final few games. It would be great if we could find out as early as possible what date the season is finishing, so that players are aware and can organise accordingly. Another aspect of the game for the more social teams that is a struggle is subs payments (or perhaps it is just our team and mates being terrible with payment). This would be the 3 rd of 4 th year in a row that the captain of the Full Tossers has had to pay more than one person s subs to make sure the team can play. I am not sure if there is any other way to collect subs other than how it is currently done, but it would be great if there was a way that the slack did not have to be absorbed by the captain. Finally, both personally and on behalf of the Full Tossers I would like to thank Rick and the rest of the Johnsonville Cricket Club for supporting us throughout the year. It is great to have club management so invested in their teams and passionate about the success of the club and its players. Without that help and support each week the season certainly would have been more difficult from an organisational

standpoint, so the support we were offered was much appreciated. Hopefully we will be back next year with similar success! Hayden Flett Captain T20 Full Tossers MVP - Dewey Flett

InterCity One Day Grade Division 1 Falcons With the new season we brought a few new players to our side and club. We had beaten all the best teams in the One day grade. We are so happy to be the Division 1 winner. We thank the club for supporting us. The Boys were great and we really had a good time on and off the field. Fielding is the key area to be noticed and to be improved. We have found some good talents in the team and hopefully use it for the next time. Had some injuries in the team mainly Dominic had minor fracture in his little finger while diving for a catch. But still he played the last match and I really appreciate Dominic for his kind effort. Young player like Eliyas did very well. Roshan & Gokul shined this season very well in bowling. Our new comer Nisala took all the top wickets. Dominic, Eliyas and Prasad did very well in batting. We had a great season this year. Hope will continue with the same good spirit. 29 Premier 2 Women s T20 This season was a bit of a rebuilding season, last season we did not have a team due to the ladies off having babies, retirement and people moving away. Fielding a team each week was a challenge each week, we had a core committed group of 5 players, but that s now enough to get on the field. Each week was a constant challenge tracking down each players and we roped in anyone we could, parents even gave it a go! The team are keen to keep playing so finding more players for next season is a must. The season itself was a real mixed bag, some good wins at the start of the season and few losses as we went on, but also some very close games. It s hard when a few players have to do everything, bat, bowl, score and umpire, but we got there in the end with a smile on our face. The weather didn t help much, quite a few games were called off as none of us girls were keen to get wet. Grounds were a bit of a mixed bag, we loved playing at Petone Rec and Fraser Park, but most of our game were on the tiny park in Newlands called Pinkerton Park, which is pretty much the size of the inner circle on a normal ground, so more of a kids ground. It made for some big scores, both teams noted how hard a small boundary was to protect with only 6 fielders. This season we dragged Kat Arnold out of retirement kicking and screaming, but she loved it when she got there. Claire Weggery joined our team, she has been a great find on the field and off, helping organise the team. Kim O Brien was back and was her normal consistent self, handy with the ball and the bat. We managed to poach Erin Page off another club after she came to fill in one game and loved playing for JJC so much she decided to stay. Kellie Wilson was back this year and was also great with the bat and the ball as usual. We also picked up Phoebe Caldeiro the second half of the season and look forward to having her back for a full season. The team was captained and organised once again by Odele Kingsford. Prizegiving was a good night for the team, with the core 5 there supporting the club, awards were picked up this year by Kellie Wilson best bowler and Odele Kingsford Best Batter and MVP (I suspect the MVP was more for getting a team on the field, which was a miracle some weeks). Overall it was a good season back, but next season the girls are keen to pick up some new players and be more competitive like the good old days (3 seasons undefeated!). 30 Premier Girls Youth Grade Johnsonville Cricket Club's Premier Girls finished another successful summer of cricket. They won the T20 trophy and topped the T30 standings tables in the competitions organised by Cricket Wellington. Cricketer of the Year Greg Carr Trophy Premier Girls Team Six teams competed in the T20 competition this year Upper Hutt, Collegians, Stokes Valley, Hutt Premier 1, Hutt Premier 2, and Johnsonville. The Johnsonville Club's team had five new players, aged The Club's primary focus was that the Girls should simply enjoy their cricket. The weekly training sessions ultimately led to significant results for individuals and the team. After winning the T20, in the must win final against Collegians in the T30, they went down after a spirited game. The five new players injected renewed enthusiasm and passion into the team culture this season. And while all the Girls started the season at varying skill levels, all of them ended it showing significant skills improvement. Everyone experienced a major increase in self-confidence. This grade focuses on developing the players. So we held weekly training. Team members clocked up a near full attendance at the weekly training sessions run by coach Mike Billmore and Kat Arnold. Four Johnsonville Premier Girls went on to represent Wellington and Wairarapa at higher honours. Ollie Preston and Xara Jetly represented Wellington in Under 18 Girls. Two represented Wellington at Under

15 Girls Xara Jetly and Jeneesha Maisuria. Nikita Decruy represented Wairarapa at Under 18 Girls. Zoe Wishnowski represented Wellington in the Girls Development team. Captain Xara Jetly gave full credit to the Johnsonville Girls' team spirit. "I found the team bonded very well through the season. Everybody got an opportunity to bat, bowl and field. We got better and stronger as a team as the season progressed." Vice-Captain Zoe Wishnowski noted the importance of having fun. "I feel it was more of a fun activity instead of something quite serious. We got to enjoy cricket as a team. Had a laugh and got to know each other. It wasn't all about we had to win." With her music boom box, Captain Xara Jetly kept the fun going on the training and game days. A team that has fun together wins together.
