There is always an underlying feeling of pride in belonging to a long established organisation with a proud and successful history. It is with this very much in mind, that we warmly commend this Fixture Card to all past and present members and friends of Mill Hill Village Cricket Club, which has now been in existence for 150 years. It is a club with tradition and one which has played no small part in the social life and community of Mill Hill Village, a fact that should give quiet satisfaction to all who have ever been connected with it.

A Cricketer s Prayer Old Father Time, I pray to you That clouds give it a rest, And that I get a game today, And that I play my best. I pray that my side score quick runs And our opponents falter, And if it comes to pass we lose, I pray the game s a belter. I pray that once I ve donned my pads And walked out to the square, That none of my nicks find a palm, And that I score my share. I pray the wicket's well-prepared, And that it doesn't stick, That all my shots find gaps - And that the outfield's fairly quick, I pray the umpire knows his job, And doesn t lift his finger. But if he does I pledge to you: I ll not forlornly linger. I pray the Captain sets his field With telepathic skill, That all his plans work well And that the catches do not spill. I pray that if a batsman Loops a ball into my lap, I'll pouch it without too much fuss, And get a well-earned clap. And if I m asked to bowl I pray The ball leaves my hand true, So whether or not wickets come I ll know that they re my due. Above all, Father Time I pray When all is said and done, That we can all look back and say By 'eck, that game was fun!

A brief history of Mill Hill Village Cricket Club Although Mill Hill Village cricket began officially in 1868, records of the existence of a cricket club in the area are contained in the accounts kept by the incumbent of St Paul s Church in There is also reference to a team representing the village against a Mill Hill School XI three years later. The first report of a game in the locality in the Hendon Times was in 1876, when the working men of Mill Hill playing the Hendon Institute of Working Men. In those early years Mill Hill Village were always on the move. Their first home ground was a field opposite the Adam and Eve Public House. By 1887, the Jubilee Year, the fixture between the President s XI and the club was played at Arran Dene the private ground of the then president, Mr J A Johnson. Further moves followed to the Donkey Field near Wills Grove, then Hammers Lane, where St Paul s Vicarage now stands: on to the foot of Holcombe Hill at the rear of Bentley s House, opposite The Forge. During 1908 and 1910 a rift in the club caused a parting of the ways and the formation of two Mill Hill clubs. The Village remained at Holcombe Hill until 1914, whilst Mill Hill CC made their headquarters at Bunns Lane where they remained, until falling out of existence in the early part of this century. Officially renamed Mill Hill Village Cricket Club in 1922, a new ground was found for the club at picturesque Nan Clarke Lane. Here began an era of fine cricket from a great side until the ground was commandeered for military purposes in During the war years, the Village became a wandering side again before a final move to what has become our permanent home, Burtonhole Lane. There was also another change of name, to Mill Hill Village Cricket and Athletic Club to incorporate the winter activities, football and hockey. In 1968, under the new banner Mill Hill Village Sports Club, came the Centenary celebrations. The Village is a club that has grown up in an area that still retains the rustic beauty of yesteryear. Within it is a family tradition that has seen successive generations of fathers, sons, cousins and nephews all playing, and wives and sweethearts helping with teas, etc. Perhaps the never changing environment of nature has helped to produce this tranquillity and peace.

MHV 1 st ELEVEN 2017 SEASON REPORT 2017 was another disappointing year for the 1st XI, although it started with reasonable promise with three wins from the first three games. Only 4 wins in the other 15 games, proved to be the downfall as the Village were relegated with 7 wins, 1 draw and 8 defeats, with 2 games abandoned due to weather. An opening day century from Danny Potter (122) was the bedrock of an imposing total of 281 set on a surprisingly dry opening day wicket. Despite this solidity from the No.3 the Village were tottering at 98-5 in the 23rd over. However the lower middle order performed well in support, with Marcus Cara (41), Shash Seem (33) and Felix Charles (31) all making useful contributions. In reply Holtwhites were always behind the rate after good opening spells from the coltish Saahil Mehra (1-35) and the useful new addition to the 1st team squad Shash Seem (2-32). Holtwhites hung in really well and despite never getting on top of things, they were still in the game until the closing overs, despite needing 10 an over for a long period. Marcus Cara was the pick of the Village bowlers on the day, bowling a tight spell of 1-38 in 9 overs. The Village top order cashed in against an inexperienced weak Hemel Hempstead IIIs attack. Unusually Saahil Mehra (56) was first out of the stalls, opening the innings with Piers Jenkins (37) and the pair set the platform for a big total with an opening stand of 74. Marcus Cara bullied the bowlers in his usual fashion, top scoring with 81. Naz Asif (59) and Daniel Potter (33) also helped themselves to a few, on the way to huge team total of 361 including 40 wides. 361 was always far too many and the 2nd innings felt like going through the motions. Only 38.2 overs were needed to dismiss the dispirited opposition. Daniel Potter ended up with the best figures of 3-11, despite only bowling 3 overs at the end. The next match was reduced to 40 overs a side following four brief but frustrating rain breaks in the Village innings. This did little to settle a fragile top and middle order, as the home side stumbled to 80-5 in the 16th over. Majid Asif (51) joined the old stalwart Felix Charles (46) in the middle and the pair built a match winning partnership of 97. Despite the shortened innings the Village again failed to use up their allocation being dismissed for 210 from 39.5 overs. It proved to be plenty of runs as the top order were blown away. The score was 3 for 3 after 3 overs. Saahil Mehra (2-16) galloping out of the starting gates with 2 wickets in his first two balls, both hitting off stump, having seamed away from middle. Most of the bowlers got a piece of the action with Majid Asif capping off a MOM performance with Dan Potter s 2 wickets for 1 run sealed the victory in the 32nd over with the visitors Clifton bowled out for 120 The first disappointing game came against Hertingfordbury with the Village all out for 109 with only Pete Jaffe (31) and extras (31) troubling the scorer. This was never going to be enough and the opposition got to the target with the loss of only 2 wickets. Another woeful batting display the following week saw the Village struggle to reach a 168 run target after good bowling from Saahil Mehra (3-24). A succession of batsman hit long hops and half volleys straight at the grateful Kings Langley fielders, with Marcus Cara (38) top scoring. Following a poor day at the races a week earlier, the Village 1st XI produced a thoroughly professional display to take 30 points against a Shenley side sitting atop the division. Majid Asif ended with 3 wickets, while Saahil Mehra and Marcus Cara both chipped in with 2 a piece. Danny Potter (69) played well to steer the Village to victory with others chipping in as the Village won by 7 wickets.

Next up was Hitchin in sweltering heat so an important toss which the Village lost. Hitchin batted sensibly and well with the top order getting the bulk of the runs. Saahil was the pick of the bowlers and profited at the back end of the innings by cleaning up the tail. 6 for 49 was a good return for the thoroughbred opening bowler, on a batsman friendly wicket. No partnerships and no 50s in the Village reply meant that we were never in the contest after Dan Potter was dismissed for 45. Next up was a home game against Flamstead with the Village posting a decent total of 220 mainly thanks to an opening partnership which saw both Roshan Dias (58) and Naz Asif (57) score half centuries. Saahil (3-31) and Dave Overton (3-53), then had the opposition 62-7 after 21 overs before a late rally prolonged the game with Roshan Dias (3-41) picking up the last few wickets for a solid victory. MHV seem to have a mental block when playing Luton Town. Certainly no one enjoys the experience, which may explain why we play so poorly against them. It s easy to blame the pitch, the umpire and just about anything else but the fact is we played poorly and deserved to lose. Holtwhites were next up and amassed an imposing total of 274. Marcus Cara (5-57) got the wickets and also 5 catches in the innings, with David Overton (3-59) picking up a few. The reply would always be short with Danny Potter (57) and Felix Charles (66) the pick in a creditable draw. A routine victory would follow against Hemel with Saahil Mehra (3-60) the pick of the bowlers as the innings ended on Danny Potter (102) got his 2nd century of the season and he was amply supported by Jay Nandha (48) as the Village eased to an 8 wicket win. Two abandoned games followed against Clifton & Hertingfordbury respectively. A shambolic batting performance would see the Village lose a game they ought to have won comfortably. Kings Langley would post 121 with Majid Asif (3-27) & George Leggett (3-15) doing the damage, however the Village were skittled for only 96 with Felix Charles (25) the top scorer. The Village restricted Shenley to 212, which was actually a fine recovery from after 40 overs. Majid Asif went for only 15 runs from his 10 overs and Saahil Mehra (2-31) was the only bowler to pick up more than one wicket. The final overs shared about among the part timers were pretty costly. Nevertheless the target was very achievable. The ever consistent Danny Potter (77) got the innings off to a solid start with Anand Kumar (29) and at 96-1 after 30 overs, the platform was laid. However acceleration proved difficult and wickets began to fall at regular intervals. The chase fell 22 runs short and the Village were left to rue the final overs of their bowling innings, where this one slipped away. Batting first the Village scored 208 from 47 as they were bowled out yet again from a position of strength after 42 was not capitalised upon. On this occasion however it proved to be enough. The Potters carried the bulk of the load Danny (46) and Andrew (38). Other useful contributions came from Felix Charles (32) and Majid Asif (29). Hitchin were never really in the chase due to a slow run rate and the loss of wickets at regular intervals. Marcus Cara (3-46) was the most successful of the bowlers, followed by a rare outing for Phil Smith who picked up 2-26 in a 5 over spell of plop bowling. A pitiful batting display saw the Village score 86 against Flamstead in the penultimate game. This should have meant a straight forward victory for the away side but wickets continued to tumble with David Overton (3-25) the pick of the attack. With 2 runs and 1 wicket needed for victory the Village almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as first Phil Smith dropped a catch when diving full length and then in the panic Jay Nandha tried to throw down the

stumps but missed and the batsman scampered through to win the game. Last game of the season the Village needed victory to secure their place in the division for next season. They were up against their bogey side Luton Town & Indians. Yet another sub standard batting performance sealed the Village fate as they only managed 137 and the opposition would get these mainly thanks to their number 3 who ended up on 91 at the end of the innings which meant the 1st team were relegated for the 1st time in the Herts League structure Danny Potter was easily the highest run scorer with 648 with the help of 2 centuries and 4 half centuries which also helped him to secure Player of the Season. Only Marcus Cara (321) surpassed 300 runs in the season. Saahil Mehra was the top wicket taker with 27 closely followed by both David Overton & Majid Asif with 23. Some thanks are (over) due. So, on behalf of all the Captains and playing members, let s show some heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the people that matter. To Kath Kelly for providing her truly splendid teas. It makes playing at home an even bigger treat and we are once again becoming renowned by visiting teams and guests for providing some real quality fare. To Vince and Richard for their excellent support, calm assurance and wise counsel during their Umpiring stints and often later in the bar. To Ted Kelly for the jobs too numerous to mention that he undertakes week in and week out without ceremony, which help the club tick over and survive. He continues to be the glue that holds the edifice together. To all those who support the Club in whatever way they are able to. Bar duty, Pitch hire supervision rota, Work parties and the many other tasks that can sometimes go unnoticed. Even those staying for a drink and putting money over the bar are providing a useful service, so please do continue to support the Club where you can. Let s look forward with optimism to another enjoyable year ahead, on and off the field and look to get promoted again! DAVID OVERTON

MHV 2nd ELEVEN 2017 SEASON REPORT Mill Hill Village 2nd XI had a solid season in 2017, finishing 4th in Division 9A after successive promotions in the previous two seasons. The division was dominated by Potten End, who won 15 games, losing only two, and were nearly 100 points clear at the top of the table, meaning that the other teams were playing for second place. We won 8 games and lost 7 with 3 rained off. The season started away against Hatfield Hyde IIs, who put us into bat on a typically green May wicket. Progress was slow, with openers Darshan Raval (38) and Lee Crocker (22) concentrating on survival against a very tight bowling attack. Darshan and Anand Verma (36) pushed the score on to respectability but we slumped from 93 /4 to 145 for 9 from 50 overs. The Hatfield openers got off to a flying start with Darshan pulling up injured in his 7th over, but Pulkit Ohja, playing in his first league game and Ali Javed, also carrying an injury, started the fightback, with Pulkit (4 for 13) leaving a succession of batsmen looking puzzled with his control of the ball. 59 for 1 became 83 for 7 and we sensed victory. Two young Hatfield bowlers then dug in and took the game away from us and saw Hatfield home with 14 overs to spare for a two wicket victory. The second game was against Hemel Hempstead 4 s, who chose to bowl but were battered to all corners of the Village with Lee Crocker scoring 103 on his birthday, assisted by Shash Seem (52*) and we finished on 302 for 7 from our 50 overs. Pulkit continued his impressive start to the season with 6 for 29 and Ibrahim Javed got a wicket with his first ball in adult cricket, bowling Hemel top scorer Turbutt for 69. Hemel were always behind the run rate and were bowled out for 219. Our third game, against old rivals West Herts IIIs, was rained off and we next faced another familiar team in Shenley Village IIIs. Once again we were put in to bat and struggled with the dampness and variable bounce at the Village. Only Zaf Basit, Pulkit and Anand Kumar, who was stranded on 45*, made double figures and we were bowled out for 118 in the 31st over. We started well, with Shash striking with his first ball of the day, but Shenley made steady progress until Pulkit took 3 wickets to leave Shenley on 70 for 6. With overs in hand Shenley dug in and the score crept to 99 when Dave Flavell took two wicket in two balls in the 41st over to turn the game back in our favour at 99 for 9. Once again a young bowler saw the opposition home in the 48th over. The final game of the 5, 50 over games was away against Reed 3 s on possibly the only dry and flat pitch that we played on all season. As usual the toss was lost and we were inserted once again, with Reed making early inroads. Piers Jenkins and Anand Kumar then took control and the score progressed to 109 until a bizarre run out altered the game. Piers, running backwards at the time, knocked over Anand who was run out for 39, with Piers also getting out next over. A middle order collapse left us on 127 for 9 but Dave Flavell and Andrew Godfrey took the score to 170 to give us a defendable total. This was never enough on a flat pitch and, despite a quick 3 wickets, Reed chased the total for the loss of 5 wickets. With a quarter of the season gone we were in an unfamiliar 9th place in the division. The first timed game was away against Harpenden Dolphins and a solid batting display against decent bowling on a lively park pitch took us to 174 from our 53 overs. With star opening bowler Ali Javed injured, the attack was lead by Darshan and the unlikely opener Dave Flavell. Much to everyone s surprise wickets tumbled at both ends and Harpenden were reduced to 18 for 7 in the 10th over. The Harpenden captain dug in and took the score to 63 until the last 3 wickets tumbled to give us victory by 106 runs. The next opposition were the mighty Potten End, who had won the previous weeks game in 6 overs! Potten won the toss and chose to bat, wanting more of a game this week. We duly obliged them, with Darshan bowling the opener first ball and overconfidence affecting the shot selection of several Potten batsmen. Darshan finished with 5 for 20 and Potten were bowled out for 88. No chase is straightforward at the Village and we reached the target for the loss of 7 wickets with Zaf guiding us home on 34* to give Potten End their first defeat in 18 months. Buoyed by two wins

which had taken us to 4th place, we next faced Welwyn 4th team away. Once again we batted first, and made good progress, despite Zaf being hit in the eye by a beamer. Andrew Teague top scored with 65, assisted by Sanket Shah (46*) and we ended with 219 for 7 from 53 overs, a total which would have ensured us victory with our usual bowling complement. Dave Flavell once again opened the bowling, this time with more predictable results. The first wicket fell on 145 and Welwyn cruised past our total in the 45th over for a comfortable 8 wicket victory. Next up were bottom of the division Bayford and Hertford 2 s and the skipper finally won his first toss of the season and we bowled first. With the shortage of bowlers continuing, Darshan (3-26), Pryank Patel (4-48) and Dave Flavell (1-37) all bowled long spells and Bayford posted The top order struggled once again and only Shahme Farook (42) looked convincing. Dave Flavell (36*) dragged us over the line in the final over for an important but unconvincing win to end the first half of the season in 4th place. The second round of matches started against Hatfield Hyde 2 s, who faced a much stronger bowling lineup than the first game and were bowled out for 104 with Ali s off-spin taking 5 for 17. The Village reply started poorly, with the first two wickets falling without score. The middle order dug in and the total was chased down for the loss of 6 wickets. Our next opponents were Hemel Hempstead 4 s, who were bowled out for 166 (Shash 4-27) and we crawled past the total for the loss of 8 wickets mainly due to 65 from Darshan. What would have been an important game between 2nd placed West Herts 3 s and us in 3rd place was once again rained off, as was the following game against Shenley Village. We posted against Reed 3 s, who were cruising to victory at until a fired up Ali Javed (4-35) skittled the tail end, supported by Darshan and Pryank and we won by 7 runs to take us into 2nd place with 4 games to go. We had our next opponents, Harpenden Dolphins, on the ropes at 57-6, but a late rally took them to 145. Our reply was struggling at 48-6 until 3rd team stalwarts Mohammed Salahudeen (33) and Farzan Dulker (26) got us back into contention and stand-in captain Ali Javed looked set to steer us home until the last 2 wickets fell on 134 to leave us 12 runs short. Runaway Division leaders Potten End were the next opponents and bowled out for 194 with Village legend Graeme Burton returning for his first game in a couple of years and showing us that he had lost none of his flight, guile or weight. The home bowlers knew exactly how to bowl on their pitch and we were dismissed for a seasons low total of 72, dropping out of the second promotion spot down to 4th place. The penultimate game was against a much changed Welwyn 4th team who were bowled out for 80 (Ali 6-23, Darshan 3-17), a total surpassed for the loss of 6 wickets. This lifted us into 3rd place but with only a mathematical chance of promotion as 2nd placed West Herts IIIs were playing 9th placed Hemel in the final game. Our opponents were 10th placed Bayford and Hertford away at their stunning ground, one of the few grounds more picturesque than the Village. Put into bat, Bayford batted confidently on their flat home track and posted from their 50 overs. Our reply was steady but then got bogged down and we were 103-6, needing 104 from the last 16 overs. Rachit Chawla (23) and Dave Flavell (32) got us back into contention, with 34 required from the last 5 overs but the last 3 wickets tumbled and we lost by 32 runs. Overall it was quite a wet season, making batting difficult in favourable bowling conditions. As usual Lee Crocker top scored, supported by Zaf Basit, Andrew Teague, Darshan Raval and Ali Javed. Our usually excellent bowling attack was hamstrung by Ali Javed being injured for most of the season, Shash Seem and Anand Kumar being deservedly promoted to the 1st team for much of the season and Pryank Patel only playing 6 games. Darshan Raval took the most wickets, closely followed by Ali Javed, with Pulkit Ojha taking 14 wickets in only 4 games. Our fielding was usually good, with catches headed by Dave Flavell, closely followed by Andrew Teague and Lee Crocker. The duck board was a 5-way tie between Lee Crocker, Dave Flavell, Piers Jenkins, Pryank Patel and Nick Demarco, all on 2. DAVE FLAVELL

MHV 3rd ELEVEN 2017 SEASON REPORT The 2017 season would see the Village finish 3rd and pick up an impressive 11 wins along the way. The story of the season: Away vs Berkhamsted III First game of the season was away at Berkhamsted, Berkhamsted were asked to bat and amassed off of 36.5 overs. Mohamed Salahudeen (3-22) and Matt Hawkes (2-25) were the stand out bowlers for the Village with all the other bowlers picking up a wicket a piece. The reply started badly when the skipper was caught behind leaving the Village After that it was rather serene as Roshan Dias (100*) making his debut produced an impressive knock with support from both Pete Jaffe and Matt Hawkes to see the Village home with 13 overs to spare. Home vs Watford Town IV First home game of the season saw the opposition win the toss and insert the Village into bat. Gabriel Radus (35) making his debut impressed while Joe Sheridan (29) and Andrew Godfrey (22) put on a decent partnership of 50+ to see the Village post a competitive total of 162. Joe Sheridan (3-18) also impressed with the ball with another debutant, Aakif Mafahir (2-19) impressing as he opened the bowling keeping it tight. There were also 2 wickets apiece for Dan Penny (2-26) and Roshan Dias (2-16) as the opposition were bowled out for 101 to give the Village a comfortable victory. Away vs Northwood Town III We were away at Northwood Town on the AstroTurf strip and were asked to bat after a delayed start due to the rain. Roshan Dias (103) was impressive again and produced a fine innings to bring up his 2nd ton of the season. He was ably assisted by Pete Jaffe (24) James Thompson (26*) & Mohamed Salahudeen (23) as the Village posted in their 40 overs. The opposition were looking good at the halfway stage at but some fine bowling from Roshan Dias (3-39) & Mohamed Salahudeen (2-25) coupled with some good fielding meant the Village got the opposition all out for 181 to bring up their third consecutive victory and go top of the league. Home vs Frogmore II The 3 s were looking to continue their good start to the season at home against Frogmore. The opposition won the toss and inserted the Village on a warm day. Roshan Dias (33) and Piers Jenkins (32) got the Village off to a flyer and it was looking good for a big total but there was a collapse from 68-0 to Mohamed Salahudeen (38) rebuilt the innings to get the Village to 155 all out. The run chase was steady and Frogmore were always up with the run rate. The bowling was decent for the Village but only Mohamed Salahudeen (4-10) gave the Village any hope near the end with his 4 wickets in 4 overs but Frogmore eased to a 3 wicket victory with 3 overs remaining. Away vs St Albans IV The 3 s were looking to get back to winning ways at St Albans. The skipper lost the toss and the Village were asked to bat. Joe Sheridan (26) was the only one to make a contribution in the top 5 as the Village were reduced to George Leggett (46*) held the innings together and with the lower order providing support the Village amassed 171 and had a decent total to defend. At one stage St Albans were 80-1 and but thanks to tight bowling and 2 run outs the Village, thanks to Roshan Dias (3-40) and George Leggett (2-21) got the victory in the penultimate over as St Albans were all out for 162.

Away vs Watford Town V The 3 s were away at Watford Town V. The skipper lost the toss but the opposition asked the Village to bat, so James Thompson (69) and Pete Jaffe (32) opened the batting. The pair put on 57 for the opening wicket to provide a platform for the innings. Mohamed Salahudeen (22) provided support to the skipper who brought up his 1st 50 of the season, but the innings went from to 155 all out, thanks to a hat trick in one over. The Village bowled well and kept taking wickets as the opposition were never really in with a shout of victory. Mathan Mahalingam (3-24) and Dan Penny (2-14) were the pick of the bowlers as Watford Town were bowled out for 129. Home vs Bushey III Bushey 3 s were up next on a warm day with the skipper winning the toss and deciding to bat. Roshan Dias (50) & Pete Jaffe got the innings off to a good start but from 35-0 the Village collapsed to Only Roshan troubled the scoring with too many people not staying with him as the Village were bowled out for 106. At one point the Bushey reply was 13-2 but that was as good as it got for the Village as the opposition knocked off the runs with ease in just 24 overs. Away vs Parkfield & Headstone II Next up was top of the table Parkfield & Headstone. After a solid start thanks to Farzan Dulker Nain (37) the Village collapsed from 60-0 to 72-5 in the space of 4 overs. James Samarasinghe (26) and Inthikhab Mazeez (20) tried to rebuild the innings but the damage had been done as the Village were bowled out for 143 on a good wicket. The bowling was good and wickets fell regularly but the target was never going to be enough on a decent pitch. Chalky Cara (3-32) was the pick of the bowlers with the other 4 picking up a wicket a piece but the opposition eased to victory with overs to spare. Home vs Shenley Village IV Shenley Village were the visitors and having won the toss decided to ask the Village to bat. James Thompson (20) and Pete Jaffe (119*) got the innings off to a flyer and put on 77 for the 1st wicket before a mini collapse saw the Village Bilal Baree (27), Paul Simpson (30) and Gabriel Radus (20*) helped the Village to an imposing but it was Pete who was the star thanks to his unbeaten century which included 16 fours and 3 sixes. Shenley also got off to a flyer but wickets fell steadily as the Village eased to a 54 run victory with Chalky Cara (3-38) and Bilal Baree (2-28) the men to shine with the ball. Home vs Berkhamsted III The 3 s were at home once more to face Berkhamsted who won the toss and decided to bat on a warm day. Wickets fell regularly with Dave Knight (3-13), Mohamed Salahudeen (2-15), Tommy Smith (2-27) and Chalky Cara (2-43) amongst the wickets. There was a 50 partnership for the 7th wicket but Berkhamsted were eventually bowled out for 151. The reply was both impressive and destructive as Farzan Dulker Nain (78*) and Sanket Shah (60) shared a 92 run partnership for the 2nd wicket in just 10 overs to see the Village cruise to victory inside 21 overs and move them to 2nd in the table. Away vs Watford Town IV Next up was another trip to Watford Town to face their IV s. The skipper lost the toss and was asked to bat. At 14-2 at one point the Village were in a bit of bother but Pete Jaffe (45) and Sanket Shah (33) steadied the ship with a 74 run partnership to provide the platform to the innings. No one else really troubled the scores as the innings finished on 148 all out. Andrew Godfrey (5-16) and Mathan Mahalingam (2-16) were the pick of the bowlers and opened

the bowling superbly with Godders picking up his maiden 5 wicket haul as the opposition crumbled to 70 all out as the Village cruised to their 3rd straight victory to stay 2nd. Home vs Northwood Town III Only 2.2 overs were played as the heavens opened as the game was abandoned and with most other games in the league falling to the weather the Village remain in 2nd. Away vs Frogmore II The Village traveled to Frogmore on a cloudy day. The skipper lost the toss and we were inserted. The innings started poorly as 2 wickets fell in the first 2 overs. Matt Hawkes (29) and Inthikhab Mazeez (20) tried at different points to steady the innings but wickets regularly fell as the Village were bowled out for 106. Frogmore got the runs in 17 overs without the loss of a wicket as the bowlers toiled in wet conditions. A disappointing performance which we need to bounce back from. Home vs St Albans IV Next up we were at home against St Albans and the skipper won the toss and decided to bowl in cloudy conditions. Andrew Godfrey (2-28) and Mathan Mahalingam (2-14) at one point had the opposition 68-5 before a 40 partnership looked like it may get the opposition to a decent total. Dave Knight (4-25) had other ideas as he came onto dismiss the lower order as St Albans were all out for 145. The Village reply started terribly as after the first over the score was 4-2. Inthikhab Mazeez (40) and Mohamed Salahudeen (69*) however produced an excellent 107 partnership to almost see the Village to victory before Mo sealed victory with a 6 in the 29th over. Home vs Watford Town V The opposition failed to get a side out and had to conceded the game but unlike other divisions the Village would not get the points as it goes on average points. This may prove to be costly losing out on 30 points. Away vs Bushey III The 3 s were up against 4th placed Bushey and the skipper won the toss and decided to have a bowl. Mathan Mahalingam (2-46) was the man in the wickets but useful bowling from Inthikhab Mazeez, Mohamed Salahudeen, Dave Knight and Abdul Majeed saw the opposition off of 31 overs before a late onslaught saw Bushey post a daunting off 40 overs. Abdul Majeed (77) on debut was the star with the bat as he took time to get going before targeting the short straight boundary. He was ably assisted by Joe Sheridan (25) and Mohamed Salahudeen (22) and put on 79 runs for the 5th wicket with Farzan Dulker Nain and from a seemingly strong position the Village found themselves James Thompson and Paul Simpson put on 20 in 4 overs to tie the game before the skipper holed out to mid wicket with victory in sight but thankfully Dave Knight steered a single into the leg side with the penultimate ball to cap off an impressive run chase. Home vs Parkfield & Headstone II The 3 s final home game was against table topping Parkfield & Headstone. The skipper won the toss and decided to bat to try and post a total to defend. Inthikhab Mazeez (67) and Pete Jaffe (25) got the innings off to a good start to provide the platform for the total. No one else really troubled the scoring with extras the next top score with 20 as the Village posted 150 with a couple of balls to spare. The opposition started quickly as they were looking to finish the game early but Graeme Burton (5-29) had other ideas as he ripped through the top and

middle order with an impressive spell of bowling. Inthikhab Mazeez (2-14) also chipped in late on as the opposition were bowled out for 126 to leave the Village 3rd and with an outside chance of promotion. Away vs Shenley Village IV Last game of the season the 3 s were away at Shenley Village The skipper called wrong and the Village were asked to bat. At 17-4 the Village were in real trouble before a 99 run stand for the 5th wicket between James Thompson (63) and Paul Simpson (49) got the innings back on track. Only Mathan Mahalingam (20) would trouble the scoring as the Village innings ended on 147 all out. The number 2 batsman for Shenley carried his bat to his way to 93* with only Inthikhab Mazeez (2-23) getting any joy with the ball. Wickets fell steadily but the opposition would reach the target with 7 overs and 3 wickets remaining. The Village would remain 3rd in the division. Player of the Season went to Mohamed Salahudeen whose passion throughout the season was for all to see. He backed this up with both bat and ball as he finished with 211 runs including an excellent knock of 69 against St Albans and finished with 14 wickets. Captains Player of the Season went to Andrew Godfrey who keeps improving year on year. He took his first 5 wicket haul in a match against Watford Town IV as he took 5-16 in a devastating spell of swing bowling and showed he is improving with the bat. Top Run Scorer was shared between Roshan Dias and Pete Jaffe with 299 runs each. Roshan started the season with two 100 s and one 50 before he was first taken by the 1st XI and then left due to not paying his subs. Pete consistently scored runs up the order and scored 119* against Shenley Village IV at home.. Top Wicket Taker was a close run thing with 5 players taking 10 or more wickets in the season but it was Mohamed Salahudeen who took 14 wickets to take it. He was always reliable and a good option to bring on in a game. In the end an excellent season with a lot of new faces which is encouraging for the club as a whole. Thoroughly enjoyable and I look forward to next season. JAMES THOMPSON

MILL HILL VILLAGE COLTS REPORT FOR was another excellent season all round for the Junior Cricket section. The Under 11s were promoted for the second successive season and now find themselves in the top Division, up among the big boys of the area for the coming 2018 season. It will be a big challenge for them but one we will all tackle with relish. The Under 13s just missed out on promotion, losing a couple of tight games that proved to be crucial in the end. They will once again compete in Division 2 and as most of the squad will remain in the same age group in 2018, they should have high hopes for a successful assault on the promotion spots this time around. The Under 15s managed to win their division in some style. They did so without losing a single game.a feat which cost the coach a few quid at the celebratory end of season meal after the last match. Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in Colts matches last season. Everyone of them represented Mill Hill Village Junior section with absolute distinction and are a credit to both their Parents and the Club. There has been a bit of a shake up in the organisation running the Junior leagues. The MCA (Middlesex Colts Association) have re-named the regional areas. We are now in North rather than East, which seems entirely correct, given the area that the MCA covers. You can have a browse around the MCA website pages by going to If you click on North area and then the link to the MCA Play-cricket North Area you will find your way to the results pages for our Divisions. The winners of each match have the pleasure of updating the Play Cricket site with the result and details of the game. The pyramid below the age group teams also looks healthy, with growing numbers of younger cricketers swelling the ranks. The pre-season indoor training and the Friday night outdoor sessions were all very well attended. We also had 20+ children enrolled onto our All Stars Cricket sessions. This is a programme instigated by the ECB to try and get more 5 to 8 year olds into cricket. It is an idea that MHVCC are entirely aligned with, as we firmly believe that capturing the hearts and minds at this early age is a critical element, if we are to succeed in growing the game. We were delighted to sign up as an All Stars Cricket delivery centre and we have done so again in At the time of writing we have another dozen new young players signed up to the All Stars programme and we confident of exceeding the number we managed to recruit in Please spread the word about this and all the cricket that we offer and encourage your friends to get in touch, if they have children who may be interested. At the older end of the Junior section is was particularly pleasing to see a number of the boys making their way into Adult cricket. The Sunday development XI games are an ideal gateway into the longer formats of the game and a good preparation for those seeking to play league cricket on Saturdays. One particular Development XI game towards the end of the season was a real pleasure to witness. The match against North Two developed into a real nail biting affair and it was fantastic to see two of our Colts ending up as the batting heroes at the end of the game by securing the runs needed for victory in such a tight fought contest.

Congratulations to the 2017 Colts award winners: Under 11 Player of the Year Chetinder Singh Srai Under 13 Player of the Year Alexander Subramaniam Under 15 Player of the Year Callum Whitworth Presidents Cup winner Tommy Smith The awards night at the end of the season was a fantastic occasion with so many people contributing by bringing superb food to the table. The amazing cricket cake, delicious samosas, home-made curries and chilli were just some of the memorable dishes on display. Thank you all for your contributions and for the support you provide throughout the season. My particular appreciation goes to the array of people who help to ensure that the junior cricket section can operate and run so successfully. Mel who does such a splendid job of looking after all the membership duties. Dave, James, Charles, Andrew, Cara, Tejas, George, and others who provide brilliant support with coaching, scoring, umpiring and more. Thank you very much and please keep up the good work! Quite simply, the Colts could not continue without your valuable assistance. Most of all, it is about the kids enjoying themselves and having fun playing cricket. Do not hesitate to come and speak to me, or any of the coaching team, if you feel there is more than can be done to make this happen. We look forward to another season of fine Colts cricket at the Village. Phil Smith Outdoor colts training sessions runs from 6.30pm to 8.30pm (light permitting) on Friday evenings, commencing on April 13 th and concluding on July 13 th. If it is wet the training is likely to be cancelled so please check with the coaches as early as possible. Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We would appreciate it if children can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of the session, if they are not making their own way home. If you are going to be late picking up your child, please contact Richard Downes on or Philip Smith on and let them know. Please complete and hand back the Junior Membership form and read this and your introductory letter carefully, as they spell out our commitment to the development of young cricketers and your role and responsibilities in ensuring that this can happen successfully.
