1 Cricket Award Winners 2016 Open Cricket 1 st XI Cricket (Coaches: John Murphy & Jay Baker) The 1 st XI finished the season in 6 th position, only half a game from 4 th position. H.I Cohen Trophy: Dr Bryan s Fielding Prize: APS Representative: Noah Croes Lachlan Bangs Nick Sparks Noah Croes Noah scored 282 runs at an average of Will Sutherland Will collected 16 wickets at an average of nd XI Cricket (Coach: Mark Rivett) Jonathan Loveridge Our highest run scorer this season, Jonathan provided the team with some handy knocks. When our top order struggled we always knew that Jonathan was the one that always got on the front foot and never let the bowlers dominate him. Charlie Cormack As our opening bowler and averaging just over 3 runs per over from his total of 59 overs for the season, Charlie always gave us a great start in all of our matches. His consistency with the new ball and his good second spells enabled us to always play good competitive cricket.

2 James Hermiston A cricketer who lives and breathes the game James is a worthy recipient of this award. Apart from being a very good all rounder James was always in good spirits and the real back bone of this team. 3 rd XI Cricket (Coach: Aidan Franetic) Freddie Osborn Freddie a talented classy right hander had a slow start to the season but found his bearings batting at 4. After the Christmas break Freddie was a stable and reliable batsman who consistently made scores. Freddie made over 160 runs for the season with a high score of 43. Sam Kerr Sam a medium left arm bowler who was cable of both taking the new ball or coming in at first change. Sam bowled a great line and length taking 8 wickets for the season but also with a great economy rate. Kerr being great with the ball also was very handy with the bat making a few solid scores down in the tail end of the order. Hugo Carson Hugo was a valued member of the 3rds cricket team and with no keeper at the beginning of the season he took up the role with open arms. Hugo did a mighty fine job behind the stumps and also had a few good spells with the ball, one game taking two wickets in the last over against MGS to draw the game. Hugo was always an enthusiastic trainer providing plenty of energy and spirit. Hugo played for the team batting in various positions whether it was opening or down the order to gives others a go. In the second last game he also retired himself to give others a go. He has a fantastic attitude and always played his role well.

3 Year 10 Cricket 10A Cricket (Coaches: Tim Shearer & Tom Edney) Fraser Morrisby Fraser had a solid season with the bat, highlighted by scores of 55 not out against MGS and 40 against Caulfield Grammar. Fraser scored 182 runs at an average of 20.2 Jack Wynne Jack had an outstanding season with the ball, bowling consistent lines at good pace. Jack took 16 wickets at 11.8 (economy rate 2.7 runs per over). James Gray James had a solid all round season, making 139 runs at 13.9 and bowling consistently to take 9 wickets at 25.3 off 74 overs. 10B Cricket (Coach: Mack Rivett) Jonty Lupson Jonty had a fantastic year and is very deserving of this award. He was an extremely reliable player and was captain on numerous times. Jonty was constantly keeping the A s players on their toes with scoring runs week in and week out. Jonty s batting highlight was definitely his 50 not out against Xavier. Solid scores kept coming from Jonty with a 35 against Carey, 33, 19 against St Kevin s College and a 43 after being retired 35 not out. Jonty was a pleasure to coach and watch play his shots from the sideline. I wish him all the best with his cricket in the future. Howie Japp Howie had a solid year with the ball. His highlight for me was definitely his 3/8 off 6 overs against Xavier. He continuously troubled batsmen with his medium pace in swingers. Howie was a pleasure to coach and was rewarded a couple of times with captaining the side. He very much deserves this award as he

4 constantly pressured the bowlers of the A s for a spot. To his credit he had the opportunity to play 10A cricket and he took it with both hands and performed well. Howie bowled tremendously well against Melbourne Grammar during the year with figures of 3/14 off only 4 overs. I wish Howie all the best with his cricket in the future. Toby Nixon Toby had a fantastic season of cricket, he was constantly putting pressure on the B team players I when he was playing in the C team and also the A team players when he was playing in the B team. If the season was a bit longer, I am sure he would have been very close to playing A s. He was damaging with the bat and the ball in his hand. He is an extremely competitive person, which I believe his year level lacks. Toby scored a very quick 35n.o against Carey and a solid 22. He also impressed with the ball having figures of 3/6 off 4 overs and 1/3 off 5 overs. I am sure Toby will continue to impress with his cricket over the next few years and I wish him all the best. 10C Cricket (Coaches: Tim Barnett & Richard Blandford) Leighton Rogers Leighton s compact batting and solid wicket keeping were integral to the 10Cs successes this season. The reliability and consistency of Leighton s performances made him invaluable to the side. He should be encouraged to pursue cricket next year in the open grade. Leighton is a well deserved winner of the batting award. Luke Smith Luke was an invaluable asset to the side, whose consistent performances with both bat and ball led to numerous team successes. His enthusiasm in the field was of great encouragement to his teammates also. Performing captaincy duties in the second half of the season, Luke made admirable contributions to the 10C side. He is a well deserved winner of the bowling award. Toby Nixon Toby was a standout performer in the 10C side this year. His consistent performances with both bat and ball made him invaluable to the team. Toby

5 was a well deserved winner of the coach s award. He has bright cricketing future ahead of him in the open grade. Year 9 Cricket 9A Cricket (Coach: Gene van den Broek) Hamish Johnston Hamish batted in a variety of positions for the 9A side this year. He made a total of 181 runs in 8 innings for an average of 36.2 with a top score of 52 not out. Most impressive was the value that Hamish put on his wicket every innings. If Hamish was dismissed, it was because the bowler bowled a very good ball. Will Lovell Will opened the bowling for the 9A side this year. He bowled a total of 59 overs in 10 games, took 15 wickets and conceded just 131 runs for an average of Most impressive was the way that Will was consistently challenging the batsmen by bowling the ball on the stumps. Henry Fyfe Henry genuinely has a WE not ME focus, which is so important in any team sport. In addition to this, he always gave his best effort and full attention to whatever challenges were presented to him over the course of the season. 9B Cricket (Coach: Hayden Tilbrook) Jack Bielby The batting award was between two boys this year who both made a lot of runs. Honourable mention to Eddie Hogg who made 189 runs at an average of The award goes to Jack Bielby, who led the team as captain and with the bat, constantly top scoring. Jack finished the season with 228 runs at an average of 57 and was far too good for most opposition bowlers. Samuel Davis

6 The bowling award was a similar two horse race and was incredibly tight, with our two leg spinners doing the damage all year. Honourable mention to Charlie Veitch who could tear any order apart and finished the season with 12 wickets. Davo took 13 wickets and improved out of sight throughout the season as he kept getting better, highlighted by his three wicket haul in tough conditions in the last game. Charlie Veitch An easy decision, Veitchy is an absolute gun and a great bloke to coach. Arguably our most important player, Veitchy could turn games on their heads with his incredible variation of deliveries that undid so many batsmen through the year. Surely one of the best young leg spinners at the school, his great attitude and character mean Charlie is destined for great things. 9C Cricket (Coach: Kenny Tran) William McAllister William had a sensational season despite an injury putting him on the sidelines for a couple of weeks. William totalled a sensational 173 runs at an average of from 7 innings displaying a high cricket IQ, picking the gaps and running hard, whilst putting away the bad balls when they came. The highlight was his 46 vs Xavier against a quality bowling attack coming in after an early order collapse. Ben Crummy Ben originally started the season as a batsman who bowled part time off spin. Through hard work on training his craft, Ben became one of our most trusted bowlers, knowing that we could throw the ball to him for an economical spell with a wicket or two a bonus. It was pleasing to see Ben implement the things we talked about with pitching the ball up and giving the ball some flight. Sam Murdoch The Coaches award was a pretty straightforward selection with Sam captaining the side sensationally throughout the entire year. Playing in the B's for a couple of games ruined his chances of winning either the bowling or batting awards, but that was a testament to his all round ability. Sam had a

7 great season with both bat and ball and I look forward to seeing him represent Scotch at a much higher level. Year 8 Cricket 8A Cricket (Coach: Cameron Melville) Henry Hayman Henry was a standout this year for the 8A s with the bat, regularly making scores, the true indicator of an established batsman. In fact he scored 187 runs at an average of 37.4 Henry has a fantastic balance between responsible batting and hard hitting, and his ability to hit bad balls for boundaries makes him one of the premier batsmen in the APS for his year group. Henry has tremendous talent and has a bright cricketing future ahead. Shaun Yue Shaun s ability to baffle opposition batsmen with his leg spin has made him the leading wicket taker for the 8A s this year. In fact, Shaun took 6 wickets for 108 runs off 22 overs, at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 22. His tremendous flight and ability to spin the ball proved very difficult to play, both for opposition batsmen as well as his teammates at training. To see a player be able to produce a high standard of leg spin at such a young age is truly exciting and I look forward to watching Shaun rise through the cricketing ranks at Scotch. Gil Roseby Gil has faced many adversities in his second year of cricket at Scotch and the way he has responded is a true testament to his character. After moving down to the B s to continue his wicket keeping development, Gil didn t get down on himself, but rather worked even harder to work on his skills. Gil earned his spot back in the 8A s in Term 1 and played a pivotal role in the side for the rest of the season. He maintained a positive attitude for the entire season and always provided encouragement to his teammates. Well done Gil!

8 8B Cricket (Coach: Will Hays) Reef McInnes This year, Reef was the standout performer with the bat and scored 163 runs at an average of Reef was a highly technical, reliable top order batsman who was our top scorer and match winner on a number of occasions. This success can be attributed to Reef's work ethic at training and his positive attitude. Reef's cricket future looks bright and I urge him to push for higher selection in the years to come! Will Rice This year Will Rice was our highest wicket taker and our bowling award winner. He took 10 wickets at an average of 8.7 Whilst highly capable of taking up the new ball, Will often came on to bowl in the middle overs of the opposition inning's, a crucial phase with the bat and ball where he proved to be difficult to face during the whole season. As one of the team's better line and length pace bowlers, it was only a matter of time before Will found his name in the wickets column of the scorebook each week and consequently Will is to be congratulated on receiving the Bowling Award! Charlie Smith Coming close to winning both the bowling and batting awards, Charlie has been a crucial member of the team and has worked very hard on his batting to solidify a spot in the middle order this season. With the ball he is always an economical and threatening option. His positive attitude towards training and improving has provided him and the team with success and as such he is a clear candidate for the Coaches Award! 8C (Red) Cricket (Coach: Jack Slobom) Christian Alateras

9 Christian deserves the batting award this year for the 8C Red team without doubt. He batted at 1st drop nearly every week, facing the opposition s better bowlers, and making large scores on many occasions. He should be very proud of his season with the bat, and his keeping efforts also. Alex Cross Alex also had a marvellous season, taking a wicket in nearly every game. His highlight for the year would be nearly taking a hat trick at Xavier, finishing up with 3 wickets for himself. The figures for that game were 3/2 off 3 overs. Well done Alex. Jake Davoren Jake is definitely the candidate most worthy for most improved in the 8C reds this year. His batting has improved out of sight this season. Now able to pick gaps in the field, and run quick singles with ease, additionally placing pressure on the fielding side. He retired 2 times in the last 4 matches, and was not out in the last game. Well done Jake. 8C (Blue) Cricket (Coach: Richie Goodey) James Braddy James got off to a slow start at the beginning of the season, but after training hard in the nets and getting his confidence up, his batting performances were absolutely outstanding for the 8C Blues. A top order batsmen, James would often set up the team s innings by getting on top of the opposition bowlers. An example of this was a quick fire 30 not out from only 15 deliveries, and it was not uncommon for James to launch bowlers well clear of the boundary ropes for maximum runs. A powerful and stylish player, whose leadership of the team should also be commended. Well done Bradds! Jack Reddrop Jack was simply outstanding in his role as opening bowler for the 8C Blues this season. He warmed to his craft throughout the season, and through hard consistent efforts at training and on game day, he was able to take 12 wickets

10 over the season, including best figures of 3/3 off 3 overs against arch rivals Melbourne Grammar. Jack has unique ability to swing the ball with pace and I encourage him to continue to practise his bowling as he has plenty of potential to move up in the ranks. Well done Jack! Luke Graven Having watched Luke's development since he first picked up a cricket ball at the start of 2015, I have had first hand to witness his remarkable improvement. Both Luke's bowling technique, and his batting skills have improved dramatically over the season. Most notably, Luke's confidence with the bat in hand and the desire to learn and improve his skills has been most pleasing. Luke became a solid middle order batsmen with a lethal pull shot, and his top score of 21, came against Melbourne Grammar. Well done Luke! Year 7 Cricket 7A1 Cricket (Coach: Dr Peter Coutis) Scott Beilby Scott demonstrated excellent technique, was able to adapt to different match conditions and was always looking to get on top of the bowling. He played two outstanding innings of 38 no and 28 no, both of which could be considered as match winning hands. James Meggitt James opened the attack each week and never failed to impress. He displayed outstanding control coupled with genuine pace and always posed a threat. His returns were always highly economical. Hamish Francis

11 Hamish worked hard on his game all season, and made significant contributions to his team with bat and ball, and in the field. His brilliant 36 no against St Kevin s was a match wining hand. Hamish approached every match and training session with an infectious enthusiasm and a positive spirit. 7B1 (Red) Cricket (Coaches: Tony Hennessy & Andrew Padbury) Sam Darcy Sam was the dominant player of the 7B1 competition. Dismissed only once for the 7B1's and making over 100 run for the season, Sam scored his runs at an extremely fast pace. As well as Sam's aggressive batting, he provided a quality fast bowling option and was an outstanding fieldsman in the gully. Charlie Ferguson Charlie was captain consistent with the ball, always pitching up full of a length outside the off stump. On the rare occasions that Charlie was scored off it was generally a lucky edge or a ball landing just metres from a fielder. Ed Fyfe Ed's ability with both bat and ball, along with his willingness to listen and learn has earned him the coaches award. His enthusiasm and positivity both at training and games stood out. Well done Ed! 7B1 (Blue) Cricket (Coach: Angus Steele) William Hutchings A strong, powerful opener, William has excelled in the second half of the season. Twice scoring 20+ on the soccer oval and getting the team of to a flying start, and finishing with the highest runs and best average for the team. James Padgham One of the dreaded 7B1 spin duo, James spun a web this year, beating batsmen in flight, turn and bounce to regularly tie back oppositions and take important breakthroughs. Hugh Byrne Jones

12 Energetic and excitable, on field and off, Hughie inspired those around him to be as upbeat as he. With some great catching and off spin bowling to go with aggressive batting, his energy really shone through. 7B2 Cricket (Coach: Jack Otter) Ben Simon Ben enjoyed a remarkably consistent year managing to reach double figures in every match. A patient and thoughtful batsmen who puts a high price on his wicket but can also score in a hurry if need be. He was only dismissed twice this season, and his four retirements are a testament to his ability to accumulate runs. A delightful boy who always works hard at training and is eager to learn, he scored 100 runs this season at an average of 50 with a high score of 29. Tom Brown Tom started the year with a bang with an incredible 4/7 in a losing performance, he bowls with tremendous line and length without any width whatsoever, this helped to wear down the batsmen and allowed him to have maximum impact with the ball this season. In 4 games for the 7Bs he took 8 wickets and in filling in with the year 8s he took 2 more, this is a testament to his consistency and potency with the ball. Lachlan Permezel Lachie was a delight to coach this season, he was always incredibly eager to learn and was constantly asking questions on how to improve his game and staying after training working on his skills. A talented fast bowler and declining batsman, Lachie has a bright future ahead and I look forward to seeing him develop. 7C1 Cricket (Coach: James Blair Holt) Lachie Jukes Lachie opened the batting for most games of the season and got us off to a good start many times, he was our most consistent batsmen this season.

13 Lachie was rewarded with being moved up to the B's for the last game and i look forward to seeing even more improvement from him. Finn Lacey Finn was our leading wicket taker this season. Finn got his wickets by bowling consistent line and length with very little extras. Finns hard working at training was defiantly a helping hand in becoming a better bowler throughout the season. Royston Roberts Royston is a very talented cricketer with obvious potential and had a really solid season. Royston was always bowling as well as he could at training and never mucking round and he would also help me set fields for game days. Royston was by far the easiest boy to coach and no doubt he will move into a higher team next season as he was unlucky not to be promoted this year. 7C2 Cricket (Coach: Josh Goldsmith) Jack Wyld Jack scored with a highest score 25. Jack was one of the main batsmen of the team this season, batting high in the order, he made a 25 and 21 batting at 3. Lachlan Stewart Lachlan took Best Bowling 3/7. Bowled line and length and took 3/7 in the last match including being on a hat trick. Theodore Dryden Theodore scored 50 25, 2 wickets, 6 catches and helped out in 3 run outs. Theodore had a great year with the bat and ball, as well as being of the team s best fielders.
