4 ABOUT THAME TOWN CRICKET CLUB Thame Town CC is a well established cricket club in the County of. Situated in the centre of the historic market town of Thame, the Club enjoys a picturesque setting at Church Meadow. The club was founded in 1874 and organised cricket has been played in the town since this date, with suspensions in and The Club moved to Church Meadow in 1975, taking a lease from County Council and created the cricket ground and pavilion from scratch from the existing low-grade agricultural land and derelict farm buildings. The Club caters for committed and competitive adult and youth cricketers, as well as those who enjoy only the occasional game. The 1st XI currently plays in the Counties Premier and the 2nds and 3rds, together with a new 4th XI, in the Cherwell. It will therefore field four adult teams on s, plus a T20 team in midweek. As for junior cricket, we currently run teams in four age-groups in and Bucks leagues, plus a number of friendlies. Last but by no means least, the Women s team will play in the Thames Valley Women s league this coming season, together with a number of hardball friendlies and softball tournaments. The Club is accredited to Clubmark and is recognised by the England and Wales Cricket Board as one of four Focus Clubs in South, by virtue of its standards, youth coaching programmes, Clubmark status and its links with Lord Williams s School. In 2017, we had 63 adult playing members enrolled (men and women), 100 junior playing members, 48 All Stars (5-8 years old) and over 100 social and family members. We had 18 UKCC-qualified coaches in the club, plus an overseas player/coach from Sri Lanka. HONORARY LIFE PRESIDENTS P.G.BEARD, Esq. A.BENNETT, Esq. M.DAVIES, Esq. K.G.PATEY, Esq. S.TAYLOR, Esq. 5 CHAIRMAN S MESSAGE - looking back on 2017 Looking back on another fantastic season in 2017 in which history was made on more than one occasion. Mike Beard led the first XI through the Counties Premier Division 2 and on to Division 1, beating Aston Rowant in the last fixture of the season at home to secure promotion to the top of this top flight. This is the first time in the club s 143-year history that we have reached the premier division. We look forward to playing against the likes of Henley, Finchampstead, High Wycombe and Banbury very soon. Three other club records were also broken last season. Our highest total score in a match of against Datchet on 6th ; the most runs scored in a season by Gami Kanishka with 752 and the highest 2nd wicket partnership of 160 v Harefield on 10th, scored by Gami (89*) and Callum Russell (63). Another first for the club in 2017 was the successful launch of All Stars Cricket, the format for 5-8 year olds and a game-changer in terms of giving youngsters a fun introduction to our sport. The All Stars section, which is already fully subscribed for this year, will feed into our Under-9 teams, who compete in the Aylesbury and leagues. Thame Town CC has a history and tradition of developing young cricketers who progress at the club and then play at the highest level. We currently have 11 out of the 16 in the 1st XI squad who started as juniors at the club. Off the field, it was with great pleasure and relief that we finally secured enough funding to move ahead with the clubhouse redevelopment. This is a monumental achievement which has been four years in the making and will be five years by the time it is built. The new clubhouse rewards the huge efforts that we have made as a club and will set us up for future generations of Cricketers. It will also provide a valuable community asset which can be used by a number of different clubs, organisations, charities, businesses and individuals. The club will remain a not for profit, community club managed by a group of hard-working and dedicated volunteers. I would like to thank everyone for supporting the clubhouse project, especially Thame Town Council, SODC, the ECB, LEADER, Travelodge, Thame Welfare Trust, Farol, TOE2, Holland Green, the committee, the fund-raising team, Nigel the do-gooder, everyone that bought a brick or made a donation and most of all The Debenture Club...you know who you are! There will be an official opening celebration in late October 2018, followed by weekly celebrations for the next forty years! Have a great 2018 season, it s going to be epic! Matt Swain Chairman, Thame Town Cricket Club 5
6 NEW FOR 2018 New Sponsors We are delighted to welcome and thank NNR Global Logistics, through the good offices of Tim Dabbs, as they become the first kit sponsor for the growing Women s section of the club; thanks too to Sarah Sanderson for the design work. Please do talk to Tim to discuss how your company can optimise cost and performance within your Supply Chain. Once again, we would also like to thank all those who are advertising in this fixture book this year; you are giving invaluable support to the club and, as the club continues to grow, your brands are reaching into more and more households in Thame and the surrounding area. New faces and roles We are also delighted to welcome Malcolm Bax (aka Max) as Head Groundsman and Charlie Anderson as Groundsman; to congratulate Bridget Cooper as the first captain of the Women s squad, Ed Mather, as first captain of the 4th XI, plus Pete Tervet, Sarah Sanderson, Tim Dabbs and Lina Budde-Manning as newly-qualified support-coaches. cricket We all wish the 1st team every success in this new season, in the top flight. It is not only at 1st team level that new heights are being reached, however. Thanks to the tremendous growth in the number of adults wanting to play at Thame last year, both men and women, combined with the desire to improve the pathway for juniors moving through to adult cricket, we have been able to enter a 4th XI into the Cherwell (Division 10), starting in. Having four teams playing will be another first and a huge milestone for the club; we welcome every new player and wish them a really enjoyable first season. Women s cricket The Women s section continues to go from strength to strength. First of all, a big thankyou to Sheena Beard who worked so hard to get the section off its feet, from the launch of CrickFit in 2015; also to John Patey who continues as the much-valued coach of the squad. Last year the Women not only entered several softball tournaments, but also played their first-ever hardball match at Church Meadow, against Oxford, on a sunny day in. This season will see another first, as they have entered the Thames Valley Women s league (hardball) and will also host a Softball Festival on Sunday August 12th. The new clubhouse With the completion and opening of the new clubhouse, scheduled for the end of October, come new opportunities and benefits for the club, local businesses and the community as a whole;- Sponsorship - with the 1st team rising to the Counties Premier, Division 1, we have launched a number of new sponsorship opportunities, the most attractive of which is the sponsorship of the home fixtures, which will see Thame matched with the leading club sides in and the surrounding counties. Hirings - not only will the clubhouse be one of the finest facilities for amateur sports in the county, but it will also give a great opportunity for local community groups and businesses to hire any of the four available spaces for both ad hoc events and for regular meetings and sessions. To find out more about these opportunities, please contact Jackie Phippen regarding hirings and, for sponsorship, contact Andy Jinman or Matt Swain (contact details are on page 7). 6

23 WOMEN S CRICKET Women s cricket at TTCC began with Crick-Fit in 2015 which was a mixture of exercise and cricket skills saw a greater focus on cricket skills and 2017 saw the development of those skills at weekly coaching sessions, resulting in a team eager to play matches, while still learning in an encouraging and enjoyable atmosphere, but also demonstrating a distinct competitive edge! We played a number of hardball games of different formats over the 2017 season, some against women s sides (including a full, 35-over match against an established South Moreton side), some against juniors (including some sons against mothers!) and some with mixed sides for fun. We also put out a team for the club s Open Day in August. We also participated in 3 softball cricket tournaments winning the final tournament on the last day of the season and bringing home our first trophy! Having successfully proved our fledgling abilities and our determination to be taken seriously as cricketers, 2018 sees Thame Women entering the Thames Valley Women s for the very first time. Coaching will again be available for all women and girls, this season, on Thursday evenings between 7-8pm, starting on 19 April (weather permitting). We have a number of matches already confirmed with our first friendly on Sunday 6th, at home (1.00 pm start), plus our own softball tournament at the club on Sunday 12th August! For further details, please see the fixture list opposite; alternatively, go to the club website, click on the Women s Cricket tab and then Women s team, for the up-to-date list of fixtures. Women of all abilities and ages are welcome and girls too we have players with a wide range of ages (20s through to 50s) and the great majority of them only started playing in the last 2-3 years as described above, so don t let age or lack of experience be a barrier to you! We are very keen to recruit girls to the squad and they will be very welcome to join; depending on experience, they may need to start off in the junior section. For further details, please contact the Women s Captain, Bridget Cooper, at women@thamecricket.org.uk 23 The first-ever hardball match for Thame Women s squad was at home to Oxford on 7th 2017
