1 Volume 39 Issue 5 HOOK LINE & SINKER From the President s Pole 2014 OFFICERS PRESIDENT Jim Stevenson VP SALTWATER Barbar a Gatt uso VP FRESH WATER Larry J auert RECORDING SECRETARY Anitra Gehrk e CORRESPONDING SECRETARY Karen Tayl or TREASURER Betty All en The spring fishing season is well under way. The High Sierra Opener is coming up soon. Several members are headed to their favorite secret spot to net their monster. We also have the Lake Lopez invasion approaching with the opportunity for both a variety of fish to catch and a heck of lot of fun. Speaking of fun, one of the best eating events is happening on May 22 at Dixon Lake the Sixth Annual Italian Festa Picnic. Please call Ron Casapulla at (760) to reserve a spot for this wonderful lunch. Please check this month s Calendar of Events as a couple of event dates were adjusted. Everyone have a great time and come to the May meeting to hear all the latest on the big ones landed by our members. 2 PROGRAM MAY SPEAKER Our May 9th guest speaker will be Arlene Lloyd, Executive Chef for the "Alchemy of the Hearth" Academy in San Marcos. Arlene will discuss how to properly prepare and cook various types of fish for tasty dinners. Thanks to a variety of ocean fish caught and donated by several of our Escondido Senior Angler's, Arlene will actually cook these fish during her presentation. We all will be able to finger-sample Arlene's chef's skills. We seem to know how to catch fish, but this should be an excellent time to see how a true chef goes about making a variety of tasty fish presentations. JUNE SPEAKER Our guest speaker for our June 13th meeting will be Bruce Damon, owner of the Escondido's "Nomad Adventures". Bruce will discuss kayak fishing in San Diego Bay and around our local lakes. He will bring and demonstrate the use of several varieties of kayaks and their proper use in calm water fishing. Dick Montague Program Director FRESH WATER UPCOMING CAMPOUTS Lake Lopez ---- April 28 to May 4, 2014 Carl and Dot Arnold with Dick and Laura Montague will be handling the duties of Wagon Master. The trip report of this outing will be given at next month s general meeting as well as next month s edition of Hook, Line and Sinker. Lake Cuyamaca ---- May 26 to May 30, 2014 Signups will be available at next month s general meeting or by calling Jim Stevenson. June Lake ---- September 21 to September 28, 2014 Gene and Marge Lovelady will be the Wagon Masters and be will taking signups at the next general meeting. This is always an outstanding outing with so many lakes and so little time to fish. Lake Cuyamaca ---- October 19-24, 2014 Larry and Betty Allen will once again be our Wagon Masters for this fun trip, with Tomas and Carmen Martinez assisting. Lake Hemet ---- November,

7 QUILTERS CORNER The quilting ladies and their friends have delivered 5 quilts so far this year to the girls at Mary s House in Escondido. Mary s house is a transitional living facility for young ladies that have aged out of the foster system and are working and/or going to school to build an independent lifestyle. As each new resident arrives we present them with the gift of a lovely homemade quilt. The newly remodeled Brigantine in Escondido is now open. It s a great time to use any gift cards you may still have from the Awards Banquet.
