4 June 28, 2017 Dear Matthew, Thank you for your interest in United Way Simcoe Muskoka and the work we are doing in the District of Muskoka. We appreciated the opportunity to speak to your Council to bring a face to United Way. As you know, The District of Muskoka became an official part of our United Way s jurisdiction last fall. To date, our fundraising efforts have been primarily focused on employee giving campaigns with the banks and Ontario ministry staff. UWSM s investments have assisted the needs in the community but have not been solely determined by the amount of money received by these pre-existing campaigns. Further to your request, we revisited local donations from these employee campaigns to the best of our ability, given privacy settings and reporting limitations. We can report with certainty that United Way s investment in Muskoka surpassed the amount raised. This was our original rationale to approach the District to determine if there was an interest in formalizing the region under our United Way. In order to meet the various needs in our local communities, the money raised via our annual campaign is pooled into our Community Fund. Applications are vetted and recommendations for funding are the responsibility of senior volunteers and approved by our Board of Directors. Allocations are made according to available funds, need across the region, our 3 priority areas and the merit of the applications. With respect to our utility work, 79 hydro companies in Ontario participate in LEAP (Low Energy Assistance Program) and OESP (ON Energy Support Program), as mandated by the Ontario Energy Board. United Way Simcoe Muskoka is the lead for these initiatives. Lakeland Power Distribution in Muskoka and Parry Sound Social Services are contracted to run these programs in your region. The paintings may be viewed in the Oakley Room between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. on July 1. An artist will be on site at all times to answer questions and accommodate sales. This is your invitation to attend the festivities! Good fun and fellowship for the young and the not-so-young alike! Participants are reminded to wear light-coloured, loose clothing, a hat, appropriate footwear if racing, and to put on lots of sun screen.
